Long-Time Resident and Pioneer Of Mankota Passes Away at 80

MEYRONNE – The district was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Joseph Henry Dillen, 80, long-time resident and pioneer, who has farmed in the Mankota area for many years. Although he had not been well for a year, Mr. Dillen appeared to be in usual health the night of November 3rd, but passed away in his sleep. Funeral services were held in Know United Church, November 6th. Interment was in Meyronne cemetery.
The late Mr. Dillen was born in Grand Valley, Ontario in 1874 and homesteaded in the Mankota district. In later years he has spent the winters with his niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rosenfelt, of Meyronne, and had just moved ot be with them a few days before his death.
He is survived by his wife, and one son, Milton of Lake Cowichan, Vancouver Island; one sister, Mrs. R.B. McIntosh of Grand Valley, Ontario, and a brother, Charles, of Langley Prairie, B.C.
His son and brother were able to be present for the funeral, also his nephews Fred and Alfred Dillen of Meyronne, Richard Dillen of Griffin and his neices (sic), Mrs. Fred Rosenfelt and Mrs. Bert Fouracres of Meyronne. Pallbearers were John Gillespie, Thomas Fauchon, Dan Brander, H. McKenzie, F. Kingston, and J. Brander.
