hell NO! The society does not own copyright to anything PUBLISHED before 1923. PERIOD!

The Society can claim copyright only on what it added (indexes is the usual item.)

You need to brush up on copyright law governing books published in United States of America.

HeritageQuest is backed by ProQuest a very big company and they know what the copyrights are very well, same company who acquired Universal Microfilms, Inc as well as have limited access to many newspapers.
