My ggg-grandfather, George BOWERS, lived in Indiana Co from some time around 1800 until his death there in 1847. I can find so very little about this family, but have come across the following CW letter that mentions some familiar names. If there are any descendants of Kate Bowers and George Kellar who could help me learn more about Kate and her parents, I would appreciate hearing from you.
This is a brief summary of the topic of conversation in a letter written to my great-grandfather's older sister Amelia during the Civil War. It is from "cousin William Kellar" and is written in May 1861. Its return address is simply "Indiana County", and is addressed "Dear Cousin" ~ Amelia Bowers in Pittsburgh PA, daughter of George Bowers (brother to Kate) and Hannah Tomer.
William states that all are well at home, received a letter from "Nicholas" yesterday who was in "Arkansas ..." and was well. William states that he is "learning the Saddler trade, and that Henry is married and has built a house and is living in it", and states that Amelia knows his wife very well, it is Sally Mentch". He goes on to say that Hannah's family is well, and so is Peter's. He comments that "mother and Catharine Bowers are not coming up now ...", says that "the war excitement is very large in this place", and states that "I have not yet enlisted but I think I will" and that last Friday there were "nine companies in town parading".
Can any one help me? Would this be something that a descendant would like a copy of in full?
Thanks, and hoping to hear from someone soon.
Barbara
