In "My Family Memoirs," by Thomas Hughes, there is a comment on page 20 in reference to James Hughes, son of Felix and Mary (Donnelly) Hughes, who was "accredited" as having killed an Indian in revenge of an Indian from the same location that killed his grand uncle. James was acquitted.

"Memoirs" goes on to mention that James' mother passed away on the very day, after hearing of the acquittal..."a death of instance of excessive joy."

Does anyone know anything about this trial? Or how I can get copies of the transcripts, if they exist? I'm trying to locate this James with the attempt of possibly tieing him to my wife's Hughes line.

Any help will be appreciated.

Best regards,

Eric Johnson, CA
