My gr-gr-grandfather, Andrew J. Gault/Gaut/Gott was born in May 1817 in Fayette Co., Penna. I understand that in the Pennsylvania Archives there may be something that could give me the names of his parents. He is listed as living next to Sarah Gaut in the 1850 census for German Twp., Fayette Co., Penna. I believe he's listed with her in the 1840 Fayette Co., Penna. census but I'm pretty sure he's not her son; I think he's a nephew because in the 1820 & 1830 censuses there is no son listed with her and her husband Samuel who is the correct age. In the WV 1870 census Andrew is listed as "Andrew VAULT"; this is not a mistaken reading on the census taker's handwriting - it must have been pronounced like that because at the top of the census page it's very easy to read the census taker's "G". I've been banging my head on this wall far too long. ANY help will be immensely appreciated!
