Mary Jane Smith - Who were parents and 11 siblings?

Twelve children were born to the parents of Mary Jane Smith (born Sep 1827 or 1828). This family lived in the Elk Creek or Girard Twp area, and "Jane" Smith was born and raised in the area of Lockport, now Platea. She may be the Mary J Smith listed with the Jolls family in 1850, and she married Enoch Asam Kidder about 1852 and lived in Elk Creek Twp. Her 1904 obituary supports this. Review of all large families in the 1820, 1830, 1840 Federal Census do not reveal any information, other than perhaps her father was born in England, and her mother was born in PA. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! Judy

Hi,
I'm helping a friend research his moms family and it's a real puzzle. His moms name was Millicent Ruth Holdren and her father was Emil Seiber Holdren and her biological mom was a surrogate woman named Genevive Holden. At the time of the birth Genevive was an 18 year old student at the Catholic Nursing School for Indians. I've also been told Genevive's mom was Stella Holden.
Emils' wife was Dortha Parrett Holdren at the time.

I'm trying to verify the fact that Genevive was the actual birth mother because only family is allowed to obtain the birth certificate. I will be checking with my friend to find out if he's willing to do this. Where and how can obtain records from this school?
Thank you,
Delayne

Hi. I just wanted to clarify a few dates for you. I am the great granddaughter of Raymond W Liebel. He was actually born on 30 Nov 1908 and died on 6 Oct 1988. He died the same day that his great grandson was born. He died when I was 4. He married Helen J Whitman, and they had 5 kids: Raymond, Helen (my grandma), Carol, Jeanette, and Edward. All kids are alive except for Raymond Jr

Your great grandfather?! How wonderful! I am asking because I have been trying to research the origins of my house. There is no indication of it on the 1855 map, but on the 1865 map, there is a little square at the location with the name "G. Trout." My Mom and I did some research and found a George Trout or Traut who moved from Columbia, NY to the Girard area in 1831, but could find no other information, and no actual connection to this house. Any information you have would be very welcome!

Hi nice to meet you also. I have a cousin who has a lot of information on the breindels. Also I saw a post about George Kramer. I believe he was a child from a prior marriage. He would have been the oldest of the Briendel children. Grama Breidel must have been married before. Don't know what happened to the first husband or whatever. If anyone has any info about all that I would appreciate it very much. I could never get straight answers from my mom, or her siblings. My mother was Catherine Wilhelm, daughter of Anna Breindel Wilhelm. I recognize the name ursulla bupp , etc. also. Nice to see some familiar names.

My father's name was also Frank Royal Johnson.
Born; 26 September 1925 in Erie, Pennsylvania
Died 22 May 1976 in Long Beach, California

He served in the Coast Guard on the USS Leopold and USS Falgout from 1943-46. I have all of his military records. There isn't any mention of his returning to military service in the 1950's.

In 1950 he left New Jersey and settled in Long Beach, California after leaving me, my mother and two sisters in NJ.

As far as we know, he lived with his mother Margaretta (Royal) Johnson and aunt Musa (Royal) Morgan. My wife has been in the company of both of these ladies before their passing.

Did Frank marry again?
Does your mother's name match what I have?
Did he marry your mother?
When / where were you born?
I have just found your post. I may have had a breakthrough on Charles FISK but I see that others have attributed parents to him without justification. In fact, I can prove that Charles B. FISK is NOT my Charles FISK in spite of the similarity of name, birth year, and state of N.Y. birthplace because I researched Charle B. Fisk and their data do NOT match. It breaks my heart to see what people are doing with my hard work. I evidently made a mistake by corresponding with a descendent of Charles FISK through Lydia Alice Gates namely through son David C FISK; his son Ira and his daughter Diane. Well, I cannot undo that. But it appears, though NOT yet proven, the Linda P AMES has found Imogene FISK, and I researched her next door neighbor and THINK I have found the one who represents a tic mark in the 1840 census. I see you doubt that 1840 ID of Charles FISK because of poor clerical handwriting in the 1840, but I have further proofs that it is our Charles FISK. Anyway, Charles FISK is being credited with a lot on Ancestry...People seem fond of gathering names and connecting them without doing their homework. I do have to ask about the use of the nickname or alias of (Carlos) for Charles. Because of recent findings I am extremely interested in why that was started. Contact me directly through the message board of Ancestry....drcharpink1

Would someone please look up an obit for Vannie Axtell Wise who died in Oct 1967 according to SSDI? I have been trying to finish up her husband's information and found they had moved to Erie between 1917 and 1920. I could not find her husband after 1930's census or her again until the SSDI. I am hoping her obit gives some info on her husband too. I believe their son, James Wise, is the one who died Mar 8, 1998 there. Would you please look it up for me? I would very much appreciate any help.

Looking for the marriages or deaths between 1870 and 1880 of Ida Jane and Elda Warner, daughters of John and Mary (Stevenson) Warner from Greene Twp. Ida b. circa 1858 and Elda or Ellda b. circa 1862. Their mother died circa 1875 and they had a brother, Perry, who along with their father, moved to Marshall Co., Iowa. The girls do not appear on the 1880 census with their father, step-mother and brother, so I'm assuming they either married or died.

Hey Barbara, I Thank You so much for the info but I think we have a few problems. I have a 1880 census with John Meintzer on it . It says he was born in PA. I'm sure this is he because of his wife Emma and son Aurther on this census from Pottsville. I live in the Reading area and we went to Pottsville. At the historical Society they had directories of businesses. No Meintzer's were listed in the 1869- 1870 directory but in the 1871-1872 Samuel is listed at 127 Centre .In the 1877-1878 John Meintzer islisted at 320 S. Centre and Samuel is listed at 313 S. Centre. 1879-1880 John is listed at 12 N. Centre and Samuel is gone. In the 1885-1886 Both are gone. My Great Grandmother is buried at a Catholic Cemetery married to a John Nichols. She died after 1902 because we found an obit for her son John. He is buried on the lot. In a 1910 Census John Nichols is living in Reading with Emma's Children. The Meintzer's are a hard lot to follow. Maybe you can help me out here. Thanks a lot Barbara! I Surly do appreciate you helping me.

Bonnie

George STEWART,1840 Census,Elk Creek Twp-Erie

Looking for information on 1840 Elk Creek Twp, Erie County listing of George A STEWART (born ca. 1780), with his wife Abigail (MORSE) STEWART (born ca. 1790) and their sons Richard Francis STEWART (born 1832), Albert C. STEWART (born Jun, 1834), one as yet unknown son (age 10-14), daughters Laura Emeline STEWART (born Feb, 1823), America STEWART (born Feb, 1830) and Mary Jane STEWART (born Jul, 1836). Their older son Alonzo STEWART (born ca. 1818) is shown in separate household in Elk Creek with a (probably 1st) wife? He married (again?) in 1843 in Ohio. This same family may have had at least 2 other older sons who might be out of George's household by 1840. Are any of the other STEWART families in Elk Creek related?

This may be the same family found on 1820 Census in Painted Post, Steuben County, NY, and on 1830 Census in Wethersfield, Genesee County, NY. It is undetermined if these New York listings are the same family, but the age listings for household members in those New York enumerations match up very well with known information.

It definitely is the family in Huron County, OH by 1850.

Most census enumerations through the years relate New York/Pennsylvania birthplace for virtually all members of this family.

Assuming that most governmental records will be too new for real information on this family (which was in and out of this area in about a 10 year time span or so), can anyone suggest any church records, newspaper articles, marriage records, tax records, tombstones, etc that can shed some light? Can anyone share tips on searching in Erie County if we make a visit (it's about 4 hours from home), like best library/historical society to check records, etc?

Hey Barbara, My Meintzer's were in Pottsville, PA. John Meintzer had a bakery there and married an Emma Reith from Pottsville. I find it fascinating that so many of the same names such as Christian, John, and Samuel turn up in Georgia , Erie and Pottsville. My Christian would have been born 1830 or so. I'm just so excited when I see the Meintzer name. My Grandfather's name was Harry as was my Dad's.
I will keep trying. I'm just having a devil of a time with this.

Bonnie Thank You for replying

I am searching for a John Hild of Erie, PA. Guessing his birth year to be in the 1870's.
He married Elizabeth Ellen "Nell" Jennings of Tidioute, Warren, PA. they had two daughters, Alice and Frances. I know Alice married a ? Weed.
I am trying to research this branch of my Jennings tree.
Nell may have divorced John when the girls were young and moved on to another state.
I would appreciate any assistance or information.
Ginny Geitner Eakin

Hi Bonnie, I have a lot of information on this family and will gladly share. It appears your father's grandfather is descendant of the Meintzer family I have researched and have a great deal of information on. They are descended from Christian Meintzer, born 1802 Baden, died 5 Aug 1853, Richmond County, Georgia and his wife Barbara Rebecca (last name unknown), born 1811, Baden, died ca. 1890 Pottsville, PA.

After Christian's death, Barbara Rebecca married my great grandfather, Peter Straub. They married 20 June 1855, Harrisburg Community, Richmond County, Georgia. Peter Straub was killed by a falling tree 28 Nov 1866 in Augusta, Richmond, GA. Barbara remained in Augusta until about 1870, then returned to Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA and opened a bakery with her sons, Samuel and John.

If you have access to old newspapers you can probably find advertisements to the bakery opening about that time. I understand it was located No. 127 Centre Street, Silver Terrace in Pottsville.

Christian and Barbara had 8 children:
1. Christian H., Jr. 1838, died 11 Dec 1916, Erie, PA
2. William Charles, b. 1840, d. 1867, Richmond Co, GA
3. Barbara, b. 26 Jul 1842, Pottsville, PA, di 20 July 1877, Augusta, Richmond, GA, married #1, Ambrose Sifferlin #2 Hugh Boyle
4. Julie Ann, b. 1846, Bern Twp, Berks, PA d. aft. 1910, Reading, Berks, PA, married Daniel Adams, b. 1848, PA.
5. Amelia Rachel, b. 1847 Pottsville, Schuylkill, d. 15 May 1895, Augusta, GA. Married John Henry Neibling, Augusta,GA.
6. Samuel Adams, b. 1849, Bern Twp, Berks, PA. died 26 Feb 1905, Atlanta, Fulton, GA. Married Emma F. Ells, b. 1854, died 1933, Easton, Talbot, MD.
7. John J., born 1852, Augusta, GA. died 9 Jan 1894, Easton, Talbot, MD. Married Emma Reith, b. 1854, Schuylkill, PA
8. Josephine. born ca. 1853, Augusta, Richmond, GA. , died aft. 18 Feb 1872, Augusta, GA.

Hope this helps.
Barbara
Can anyone tell me what Brake Shoe company may have been located at the address of 1305 W. 12th St. back in the earlier years of 1900's? I have a relative who was a milling machine operator at that address, and I was curious as to the name of the company. All I can read on his registration card for WWI is ________ Brake Shoe & ? Co.

Fran Stino Kenney

Hello Barbara, My name is Bonnie Mintzer Dampman. I have been trying to connect a Christian Meintzer to my family for a long time now. I know from what my father said he had a grandfather who had a bakery in Pottsville, PA. I found a John Meintzer and a Samuel Meintzer having bakeries there. John is my Great Grandfather. Harry his son is my Grandfather who lived in Reading, PA. My father is Harry who also lived in Reading. I found a Christian Meintzer living in Bernville area in an 1850 Census but I can't get beyond that. Any help you might be able to give me would be greatly appreicated. I think Samuel ended up in Maryland and I found a Christian Meintzer buried in Maryland but can find no other info on them.
Thank You Bonnie
