CASS, William Ephraim
William Ephraim Cass, seventy-eight, Garfield Ave., Harborcreek, died Monday afternoon in Hamot Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Cass was born Aug. 28, 1884 in Harborcreek, a son of Ephraim and Carrie Neff Cass.
Mr. Cass had been a farmer most of his life in Harborcreek and had retired in 1951, At that time he joined the State Highway Department as a laborer and retired from that job last year.
He was a former member of the IOOF and had attended South Harborcreek Methodist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Walter E. Cass of Huntington, W. Va., David E., Robert and John Cass, all of Erie and Ted Cass of Harborcreek; two daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Gertrude) Whaley of Erie and Mrs. (Ruth) Extein of Harborcreek; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Walter (Mable) Shaner of Harborcreek; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Audrey Cass of California and Mrs. Myrtle Cass of Harborcreek and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Frances Hughes Cass, died in 1950.
Friends may call at the W. Allen Firman Funeral Home, 1216 Bartlett Rd., Harborcreek from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Merle E. Henley, pastor of South Harborcreek Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Wales Cemetery, Harborcreek.
