Hello,

I am from the Early family which settled in Rimerton, PA. It looks as though Elk County is not far so they may have been related. Do you happen to have any Samuel Rice Early or Andrew Rice Early names in your tree?

Connie Early
Los Angeles, CA

I checked Charles Howard Starr's book, Elk County Pennsylvania Deaths 1893-1906, without success. You can check for yourself from 1906 onward. Search for Pennsylvania Death Certificate Indices and move on from that web page for death certificates. You will have to search year by year, but the search is often worth the effort. Good luck!
As a follow up on this inquiry, tonight I finally discovered what happened to E. E. Crandall. Thanks to the Library of Congress "Chronicling America" project, the newspaper "The Elk County Advocate" was put online and I found a death notice for him in the paper published on 10/29/1874 that said he died in Baltimore. This is where his daughter Inez (Crandall) Brumble and her family were living. I also found a mention in the 6/11/1874 edition that he went to live with his son-in-law in Connelsville. This is about the time that his son-in-law was in that area, and just prior to them moving to Baltimore. Mystery solved. Now if I can figure out where Malona and Isabella went.

The Guelich name in Clearfield County is of German heritage, and the immigration records indicate Hamburg Germany as point of origin. The Clearfield County Historical Society has my family well documented. There are 2 spellings, Gulich, and Guelich, but both are from the same ancestor, the spelling just got messed up. I believe the original spelling was a "u" with the German double dots over it. As it was common for the last name to come from either the town, or trade, I think it may be possible the family is originally from the town of Julich, near Cologne Germany.

I'm still on the hunt for any info from Elk County for Riverius Prindle, b. 1821-d.1855-1859?.

I'm not seeing any death records anywhere online. I'm assuming that since he's on the census in 1850, had a son born in 1855, and doesn't appear in the census in 1860, he died in there somewhere. I've tried the Elk County historical society with no luck. Not sure where to go from here.

Any help?

I had a series of scrapbooks, kept by a woman from the German Settlement. I indexed these and turned them over to the Elk County Historical Society. They are filled with newspaper clippings, many dealing with the Steis families. Unfortunately there were two Peter Steis', so many of the clippings may not be interesting to you. You could just list the names (i.e, Jacob Steis, Frank Kosinski, etc.) that you want. Ask for the clippings from the Froberg notebooks. It has been years since I have looked at these scrapbooks, but there should be much helpful information. The charge should be minimal, but you can limit the amount you wish to spend.
Good luck!

I could not find them in the 1880 census records. One of the problems is that I do not believe they were married at that time. Their first child was born in 1881 (after the census). That I know of, there is no 1890 census. So I am missing 20 years! I know the children went to school there & then moved before 1900 to Niagara County, N.Y.
I have found several Charles Johnson's and not sure which one is the correct one. I believe Emma's maiden name was Goodman but not positive about that.

Donna

PA began keeping marriage records in 1885, so that is no help. I did not find any of their children in Elk County birth records (1893-1907). I also checked Delayed Birth Records (for those whose birth wasn't registered, and now wanted to get Social Security, they could file for a delayed birth if born in Elk County between 1893 and 1907). There was no information, assuming names and birth dates were correct. However, births did not have to be filed in the county where the birth happened, so many were filed in the county seat which was the most convenient to reach and/or the cheapest to reach. Death certificates might be helpful, depending on the informant. Social security applications may also give you info. I am sorry I could not be more helpful. I assume you found Charles and Emma in the 1880 census. Good luck!
I am a Lecker trying to find who my Great Grandfather was. He was married to Theresa Loichinger. Theresa had children...one being my Grandfather, John S. Lecker. However, I can find no record of who his father was. Theresa married George Distler in 1891 at age 35 and went on to have several children with him. Does anyone know which Lecker Theresa was married to? Any information on what happened to him?
