I’ve recently come across an obituary for a Richard Reed of Elk Co and I would like to learn more about the man or the family members listed. According to the obituary, Richard was born about 1903 in Brockport and died December of 1975 at the Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. He was living in Kersey at the time of his death and buried at the Ridge Cemetery in Kersey. He was a retired employee of the Speers Carbon Company in St. Mary’s.
Listed relatives are a wife, Mary Charinsky Reed, and six children: Milton Reed, David Reed, Marvin Reed, William Reed and Clara Reed Tompkins (all of Kersey) as well as son Raymond Reed (of Dubois). It also lists a brother Carl Reed of Brookville and sister Avis Reed/Callaghan Lingenfelter of Valier (my Great Great Grandmother).
I was unaware that Avis had any siblings before this but I am not surprised as they appeared to have had a tough life (I don’t believe Avis’s mother was ever married and she spent nearly two decades in the Warren State Hospital). I would like to learn more about any of these relatives listed in the obituary, particularly the brothers Richard and Carl Reed. If nothing else, I would be happy to find either of them on the 1910, 1920 or 1930 US Federal Census but I am having absolutely no luck as of yet.
