He married my gg grandmother Matilda Hopkins (b. 10/11/1848 in New York) in New York City 5/14/1866. They had two children, William Robert Bell and Arthur Andrew Bell. Matilda died (not sure when) and he and his sons moved to Pennsylvania. He married Willimina Birdahl (not sure of the spelling or the date of marriage) and had more children. I know he is buried in St. Martin's Episcopal Church Cemetary in Marcus Hook and he died 5/5/1897. I am interested in knowing his other children's names. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for info on the George White, Mary Earle connection. They were a married couple that had a few children. George was born in PA around 1740. He served in the Chester county militia during the Revolutionary War and is in the DAR.I don't have a date of birth for Mary.Mary was probably born in the later 1740s or 1750s. There was a Mary Earle born in Southhampton, Bucks county, in 1725. Her father was listed as John Earle. Georges' children were Issac, Jacob, Hannah Gyer, and Nancy Edwards. George and Mary lived in Delaware county, Radnor township.Would like to know when and where George and Mary were married. Also if these Whites had any connection to the White families living in Bucks or Lancaster counties?Any help would be greatly appreciated.---------Terry

My name is Kathy Traum and I live in Ohio. I've been trying my hand at genealogy and I am looking for my Traum ancestors. Below are just a few of my research notes and I have much, much more to share with our ancestors.

If you think we may be related please contact me and I will be happy to share what I have with you. Thank You!

You can reach me by e-mail: katieinohio@aol.com (please put "Traum ancestors" in the subject area so I don't delete you as spam)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Few Notes: Our Traum's were German, Catholics, born mostly in Resicza which could be spelled differently. (Race: white)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been told there were 7 Traum brother's who immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's.

One (Josef) settled in Michigan, Two settled in Ohio (Henry & ?), Four settled in or around Pennsylvania (Emil & ?). There may be some Traum sisters too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Traum's are related to the Zanzinger's in Pennsylvania. Our Traum's were friends of the Neugebauer's in Pennsylvania.
Our Traum's may have been related to the Otrapa's in Pennsylvania.
I do not know if we are related to the Illinois Traum's.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Henry Traum (My Great Great Grandfather)
b. about 1861 in Romania Austria Hungary,
d. ?,
Wife: probably Elise/Elisabeth/Elizabeth,
Married: Unknown,
Children (See Below)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Henry Traum (My Great Grandfather)
b. Sept. 23, 1883 in Resicza, Austria Hungary
d. April 15, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio
Wife: Hedwig Graffenberger
Married: 1906 in Cleveland, Ohio
They had 5 children and there are lots of relatives here!
One child (my Aunt who's 95) is still living and has told me Henry's brother, Paul Traum, settled in Ohio but I have not been able to confirm this yet. She also said that the "seven Traum brothers" had a few sisters who also came to the United States but again I haven't been able to confirm this. I've been told that the seven Traum brother's often used each other's names when naming their children.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emil Joseph Traum
b. Jan 30, 1885 in Resicza, Romania Hungary
d. (probably Pennsylvania)
Wife: Marie H. ?
Married: (possibly abt. 1908 in Hungary Germany)
They had 3 children that I know of: born 1909 in Hungary/born abt. 1911 in Hungary/born 1914 in Pennsylvania
They lived in Ridley Township and Milmont Point, Delaware County, PA
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Josef (Joseph) Traum
b.

seeking any information about Joseph and Elizabeth (Collins) Horn. One of their children was born abt 1832-1834 so am estimating them to be between 20-28 years of age at that time but have no criteria on which to base this assumption. The little information available has this one child born in Delaware County, early 1830s, however he grew up in Manayunk, with no further mention of his parents, so am also assuming that they may have died and he was raised by people in Manayunk. This child is listed in the 1850 census living with Griffith Mendenhall as an apprentice carpenter. I do not even know whether there were other children.

It was condemned in 1964 and supposedly all burial records were turned over to the Borough of Yeadon. I can't find anyone at the Borough that seems to know anything about this. Mount Moriah Cemetery could not help me either. Looking for records of the people of who were buried in the Machpelah Cemetery (11th St in Philadelphia), and were removed to the Graceland Cemetery / North Mount Moriah around 1895. Thanks for any help or advice.
I have a photograph of a gentleman wearing a uniform which contains a visored cap and the insignia of what appears to be a laurel wreath and in the middle are the letters "A.I.S.C". These initials also appear on his collar (a photo is attached).

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? I've searched and searched for this insignia but to no avail. Identifying this man will be opening a door to a major genealogical mystery which I have researched for almost a decade, and I would be so appreciative of the identification of this odd uniform.

The photograph was taken at "F. Arnolds, 627 Edgemont Avenue, Chester, Pennsylvania." The photographers studio no longer exists.

Thanks in advance!!!
Norah Dennis

Hi,
I just found our family coming into the U.S. in 1847. That led to a search and subsequent find of them living in Nether Providence, Delaware County, PA in 1850. Is there anyone posting in this board that is perhaps in that area and familiar with available records from that timeframe? Were there birth/death/marriage records available? Would anyone be willing to do a lookup? I have the following family members listed in the 1850 census in Nether Providence:
Daniel McMakin	35 yrs Laborer
Catherine McMakin 25 yrs
Patrick McMakin	60 yrs Laborer
Ellen McMakin	18 yrs
John McMakin	5 yrs
Ellen McMakin	1 yr

I'm looking for birth/marriage/death of any McMakins in that area from 1847 - 1870. We dont know what became of the two Ellens, or the Patrick. The rest of the family can next be found in 1870 in Iowa.

I so so so appreciate any help, or even just any suggestions.
Thank you
jcharb8@msn.com
Jean - Bremerton, Washington

I am trying to trace records of the mother of Charles Henry
Shepler b.1876 in California.
I know that Charles ended up marrying a Helen Childs and lived in Pennyslvsania until he died in 1953, and have his WW1 Draft and service records (which confirms his mother as Jane Elizabeth Brabant). I have also been in touch with Cemetery and they confirm his burial but no sign of his mother. I have a suspicion that Jane Elizabeth went to USA)(probably PA) around 1920 (Annie Coates her own mother died around 1917) but have searched all sorts of records here and on other sites but have only found the one listing possibly her on 1930 US Census in Jenkintown, Montgomery county.
Can anyone help me with further info on Jane Elizabeth Brabant.

Hewes Family

I am trying to find information on the some of the Hewes that lived in Delaware County in the Aston Township according to the 1850 census. The family I am looking for is John Hewes b. 1792 married to Ann b. 1797. Their children listed in the census are Andrew b. 1824, Hannah, b. 1826, John b. 1832, and Elizabeth b. 1836. I also believe that Samuel b. 1819 who married Phoebe Booth is their son. I know that Andrew married a Priscilla b. 1826 and children Elizabeth b. 1858 and Sallie b. 1859. Other than the descendants of Samuel and Phoebe, I know nothing about this family's descendants. I do know that the John who married Ann was born in New Jersey and is the son of John and Hannah Page Hewes and they also had a son named Samuel who married Ann Gilipin. Does anyone know anything about this family? I have tried searching but have found very little and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Luke Garrett

My gr gr gr gr grandfather may have been F. Edward Flounders from England. He migrated to Philadelphia County PA in about 1760. He became a grazier and butcher, owning a lot of property along the Delaware River for grazing purposes.
He said he was a Quaker, but because he had neglected to bring with him a Certificate of Removal from his Meeting In England, the Philadelphia Quakers would not acknowledge him as such. He married and had children.
I know that my Gr Gr Gr grandfather was Edward Flounders, but I don't know that he was F. Edwrad's son. He was born in 1761 & died in 1818 & and took the oath of allegiance in 1777 and served in the Chester County Militia. He married Judith Unknown and they had ten children. They lived in Darby and Springfield, "suburbs" of Philadelphia. He was also a glazier. He was buried in Sandy Hill Burying Ground in Media.
Can anyone tell me where in England these two Flounders may have come from and if and how they are related? And can anyone tell me the maden name of Judith?

John Morgan and Sarah had several children. One of them, James, died before his father. Son John Jr. died in 1731 before his father as well. John Jr married Hannah William(s) (Merion MM record) in 1723 and then he married Patience Perminter (name Patience in will). John Sr's son Samuel Morgan married Magdalen(a) Evans. John Sr.s son Mordecai probably never married. No proof that he did not though but he was still in radnor after the Rev. and applied for damages. John Sr.'s daughter Sarah married Joseph Jones, son of Thomas. Thomas had 3 different names he went by due to being Welsh and it being a period when they were deciding what their names would be in the new world. Instead of changing their names each generation. For instance a son of John would call himself Jones as a last name.

http://john-morgan-of-radnor.blogspot.com
documentation in my blogger
Susan Aldridge

Hello,
I'm doing research on my Raymond family. Esther Raymond (b: 27 Jan 1792 in NJ; d: 21 May 1881 in Chester, Delaware Co., PA.) m. John Kelly/Kelley (b: abt 1790 in PA?; d: bef. 1850).
They had the following children:
1) William (b: 1825 in PA)
2) Mary (b: 1827 in PA)
3) Beulah (b: 1830 in PA)
4) P. Price (b: 1835 in PA)
5) Esther (b: 1838)
I have John & family on the 1840 Delaware Co., PA (Chester).
1850 Borough of Chester, Delco, PA; John is not listed with his wife and children.
1860 Esther is living with her sons; no husband. Since John hasn't been seen with his family btw. 1850-1860, I'm assuming he died sometime between 1840-1850.
Does anyone recognize any of these people? I have lots of info on the Raymonds and would like to try to fill in the spaces for the Kellys. Any assistance would be appreciated.

In the Chester Times, Chester, PA, November 6, 1933, the following obituary was found:

A. J. Bitler, brother-in-law to Judge Villiver, died at his home in Danville, Pa., Saturday at 2 p.m. Mr. Bitler will be remembered by many Delaware county people, as he and the judge conducted a lumber operation for 18 years, employing a number of men. Funeral services will be held at his late home tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in Odd Fellows' Cemetery, Danville

Alfred J Bitler's wife was Henrietta M, but I can find no record of a Judge Villiver in the U.S. Federal census records to piece this family together. Does anyone have any information on a Judge Villiver in Delaware County ?

-Glenn

I am looking for any information on my great grandmother, Josephine Leonard. She married William Lorenzo Stewart on September 21, 1904. Josephine was born June 6, 1887 in Philadelphia, PA (according to her marriage license)

I just found information that tells me that Josephine buried a son, Aloysius Stewart in Holy Cross Cemetery. He was only 6 months old and born and buried in 1913. I am not sure if she lived in the area, however, it would seem a bit odd to bury her son in Delaware County if she didn't live there as well or have family from there.

Any information would be appreciated.
Please help me. I am the great-great grandaughter of Jackson (AKA Ebenezer) Woodruff. Jackson was born between 1832 and 1840 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. After his birth in Delaware County he moved to Chester County.

I do know that he married a Miss Lumanda "Amanda" Ayers on April 1st, 1866. At this time they were both living in Honeybrook Township, Chester County, PA. They were married by Reverend Daniel Myers.

Lumanda was born in July 1845. I am not sure of her parents but I suspect that they are John and Mary Ayres. If anyone knows for sure, I would greatly appreciate this information as well. Lumanda died 26 Jan 1913 and is buried at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Honeybrook, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Jackson died on April 13, 1904. He is buried in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery in Chester County, PA.

He had three sons - Edward Woodruff, John Woodruff, and Levi Hart Woodruff (AKA Horace Woodruff). Edward and John ultimately moved to Michigan. Horace stayed in Pennsylvania and married several times.

I am descended from Horace. Jackson is my "brick wall" ancestor. Any help or tips would be greatly appeciated!

Tracey Woodruff-Brown

SEARCHING FOR DECENDANTS OF MELVILLES IN DELAWARE COUNTY. Charles King Melville and wife Josephine Bamberger Smith Melville settled in Chester, Pa. They had Edgar Dean, Howard J, Rachel Ellen, Earl Lilly---all who had children. Charles Jefferson and Harry Frank died young---they are buried at Chester Rural Cemetery as are many of the Melville family. They had another son, John Alfred who married but I do not think he had children. I have names and some dates of Josephine and Charles' grandchildren. So, if any names ring a bell, please contact me at: vze2qtcv@verizon.net with the info. Sincerely, Janice

Can anyone tell me where 1505 Penn Ave in Moore, PA is/was in Delaware County. I have found an old bible belonging to my mother and the above is the address she had written in, probably between 1920-1930. I knew she lived in Delaware County as a girl. Could the street name have changed, or the town name? Is the house still there? I greatly appreciate any help. I could not find on the Delaware County map that I have. Thank you so much.
Gravelle family in Delaware County (Gravell, Gravel)

My name is June Gravelle Eddins. My father was Harry C. Gravelle; his father was William Howard Gravelle OF PA., who enlisted in the US Army in 1864 and was sent west to New Mexico. Am interested in 1860 census family showing a William Gravelle, age 11, (later census indicates his birth year as 1849, while another says 1848). Father is shown as Andrew Gravell, 35; Mother, Elisabeth Gravell, age 30; and other children, Mary Emma Gravell, age 9; Franklin F. Gravelle, Age 4; and Mary L. Gravell, 8 mo. Can anyone help with further information regarding this Gravelle family? 1870 census shows the family with no William. My William joined army at an early age,15 or 16, so would have been in the Army by then. Was told by family member that our Gravelles came from Delaware Co. I met a female cousin of my father in the early 70's in Pa., so know some of family could still be in the area. Please help, if you can.

Hi,

I am hoping to find someone who could look for an obit for John Cole. The Social Security Death Index lists his Last Benefit: 19036 Glenolden, Delaware, Pennsylvania. He was born April 22, 1919, and died May 1980. I'm not sure if this is the right John I am looking for, but it might be him. There was a John Cole, same age, living in Glenolden during the 1920 census, then Folcroft in the 1930 census. His parents were Charles E. Cole and Gertrude Adame. His brothers were Charles E. Cole Jr, and Gordon A. Cole, and 1 sister, Hazel R. Cole (if married--name unknown)

Otherwise, can anyone tell me how to obtain an obituary from a newspaper in the area?

Thank you,
Ruth Pokorny
Wisconsin

I have finally gotten a lead in my Lyle brick wall. I found the family was in Deleware County, Chester Twp PA on the 1900 census. Before that all I had was Illinois census records that said Frank Lyle was born in PA. He was in Marshall County Illinois in 1880, got married in 1882 in Marshall County and started his family. By 1910 he and his family were living in Peoria Illinois. So who would have thought to check PA in 1900??!!

At any rate I am thinking that he may have returned to Chester Twp Deleware County PA in 1900 and possibly that was where he was from and his family was.

Can anyone check census records for 1860 and 1870 for me for this county? He was born in 1859 as he was 65 when he died in 1924.

Or can someone direct me where to get a look up for a possible birth for him in case he was born in Deleware county?

thank you for any help in advance!
