William C Macdonald went to America in the 1920's he was my grandads older brother.
My mum and her brother say that Grandad never heard from him again. my Grandad died in 1982 and until this year we have never found out what happened to william.

I found a possible death entry for William (1968) on the SSDI which matched his birth date and came across a photo of a gravestone on-line that matched the death year. I then found an on-line newspaper archive of the Delaware County Times and using that managed to piece together what happened to William after Grandad said goodbye.

The 1930 census lists a william Macdoanld living in Marcus Hook who emigrated in 1927 who was employed as a painter in the oil refinery at that stage he was an "alien". i discontented this census at first because William is listed as being only 30 when he would have actually been 36.
His obituary says that in 1929 William started working for the Sinclair Refining Company as a sign painter and stayed with the company for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Sinclair AA.
From 1953 until he died in 1968 he lived at 541 Chelsea Road, Chelsea, Bethel Township Pennsylvania. (He'd written two letters to the newspaper and his address was also included on his hospital admission in the newspaper.)
He was buried in 1968 at Mount Hope Cemetery Aston by the Robert Moreland Funeral Home listed as being in Trainer.

I haven't been able to get his death certificate as you don't seem able to order them from England so have been unable to find out who registered the death ~ his obituary and death notice in the newspaper only mentioned that he had a family.
