Sue,

After I read your reply to me, I pulled the death cert for Thomas F. Bay and his death cert says he died in 1906. I know from relatives that Thomas & Sarah J. had two children. Charles T. Bay b.1895 and Martha E. Bay b. 1989. Now I'm wondering if they had another child I was not aware of or who is this Thomas F. Bay in the census records of 1910 & 1920??

A new search begins.............Thanks Bobbie

Hi - I went back and checked and I made a mistake :-(
The Frank Bay in the 1920 census who was divorced was born in 1865, not 1855. As far as I can tell, this man was born in Pa of Pa-born parents, probably William and Elizabeth Bay.

In the 1910 census, Sarah J. is married to Samuel Cartwright, saying that she and Samuel have been married 2 years (1908?) and that she has had 4 children, but just 2 survive. As both of the Bay children are enumerated with her, these must be the only 2 of Sarah's children who survived. This is Samuel's first marriage, but Sarah's 3rd.

The only thing about a Bretz family is on page 48 about a Benjamin Bretz, a grandson of Ludwig Bretz who was an early settler of Dauphin county. Benjamin was born in Lykens Valley in 1796 and died in 1878. He married Margaret Paul and had 2 children, John and Anthony.

A Peter Pancake was taxed in Lebanon twp in Lebanon county in 1759.

There is quite a bit on Philip Ensminger, whose first wife was to a Maria Hutman (4 children and all died quite young). By Elizabeth (whom he married in 1838), he had 6 children, the first (Charles) and the last (Louis Kossuth) dying the years that they were born in, 1840 and 1852 respectively.

I checked on Ancestry.com and there is a huge amount (free) about the Philip Ensminger family and his parents, Michael and Mary Ensminger. You might want to check there too.

Hi Sue,

Now I feel better.....all day yesterday I couldn't get your reply out of my mind.

Sarah J. and Thomas F. only had 2 children, my grandfather Charles T. Bay and Martha Elizabeth Bay. When Sarah marries Samuel Cartwright she has 4 more children-Samuel b.1908-1909, Isaiah James b.1912 and Helen and Harold (twins) b. 1915. Shortly after the birth of the twins, Sarah dies and the Cartwright family raises the children.

I can't get past Thomas Franklin as his death cert says he was born in NJ and census records say he was born in Maryland. I haven't been able to connect him to the Bay's of Maryland, Pennsylvania or Maryland. On Thomas' death cert..one Walter Bay is the informant. Years ago I asked my grandfather Charles T. if his father, Thomas Franklin had brothers or sisters and he says he doesn't know?? I'm at a loss and don't know where to find this Walter. Do you have a Walter Bay's in your book? Thanks, Bobbie

Susan - Looking for info on my g-g-grandparents George Sellers and Margaret Wilson Sellers. Margaret was born in 1800--not sure about George's year of birth. They lived in Middletown, Dauphin Co. early 1800's. I believe George died abt 1834-35. Margaret and the children moved to Huntingdon Co. in 1835. Known children were: George, Hiram, Mary, Ann, and David. May have been others. There is another George Sellers listed in the 1830 census for Dauphin Co. who may have been the father of my George.

Thank you very much for your offer to do lookups.

Carl Sellers

nothing in the books I have, but I did find Margaret in the 1840 Hollidaysburg, Huntingdon, Pa census and in the 1850 and 1860 Hollidaysburg, Blair, Pa censuses (that part of Huntingdon county became part of Blair county in ( i think)1842). In the 1850 census, Margaret is 50, daughter Margaret is 20, son Hiram is 23 and daughter Susan is 16. In the 1860 census, Susan has married, a dentist by the name of Dr. J.A. Freeman and they have a young daughter, Ida. Enumerated with them is Susan's mother, Margaret, now aged 59.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Nothing about any of those names. I did find a George Sheetz and wife Ellen in the 1880 Harrisburg census with son John B. (born about 1879). George was born about 1852 and his wife Ellen abt 1858.

I am looking for information on Henry Bopp and his wife Mary Anna (nee Mayer). They lived in Williamstown from before 1880 to after 1900. They had a farm. I believed their brother Richard and sister Amelia (Millie) lived with them. Millie may have married someone by 1896.

Sorry, nothing in the book.

Henry (as Bubb) is in the 1860 Wiconisco, Dauphin census, single and a teamster.

I see in the 1900 census that Henry says that he emigrated in 1858 and his future wife Mary Ann emigrated in 1865 and his brother Richard emigrated in 1866, so it seems that Henry must have emigrated alone in 1858 and went right to Pennsylvania and ended up in Wiconisco (Williams twp was erected from Wiconisco in 1869). Brother Richard, living with a stone mason and his family is found in the 1870 Wiconisco census. Wife Mary Ann emigrated when she was 21, so could have emigrated alone or with her parents - hard to tell as she came to the US in 1865 and by the following census in 1870, she is already married to Henry.
