HELP !!
Where can I get a copy of the will for Andrew Culberson??
Born prior to 1700 in Ireland. He emigrated to America from Londonderry and settled in Kennett Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He probably came to America with his brothers John, Robert and Samuel in 1712, but the first record of him is in 1726 is on the Kennett Township tax roll. He left Chester County in 1729 and settled in Hopewell Township, Lancaster County (now Cumberland County) PA. He was an uncle or cousin of Joseph, Alex, and Samuel of Culbertson's Row. He died 1746 in Lancaster County. His son Samuel was his bondsman and administrator of his estate filed in 1746. His estate consisted of about 1900 acres, almost three square miles, and an inventory of his estate filed in 1747 showed its value to be $4,000, a very large sum for those days. Division of his estate was made in Cumberland County, in 1750, that named his children. He married in Chester County, Pennsylvania about 1720, Janet Breckenridge [H700], born about 1696 in Ireland. She was a sister to James Breckenridge. Several years after Andrew's death, Janet married John Miller.

Barbara, I wish I had an answer for your question, but I'm afraid I don't. I did note, however, that you are a Ray, which is of interest to me since the Culbertson family married into a line of my Rea cousins. Specifically, Rep. John Rea married Elizabeth Culbertson, grandaughter of Capt. Alexander Culbertson. She and her ancestors are, of course, no blood relation to me, but her descendants, including Samuel Culbertson Rea are.
So, tell me about your Rays. Is that your surname, or your husband's? My Reas came from County Down, Northern Ireland in 1774/1775 and settled, first, in Mifflin County, then, after about 15 years or so, settled at the head of the Amberson Valley in Franklin County. My line also has ties to Cumberland County, where my g-g-grandfather, James Azel Rea was born in 1827, and where his brother John and John's daughter Melissa Jane Rea also lived. My g-g-g-grandfather was Robert Scott Rea, and one of his sons, Robert Scott Rea, Jr. decided to start spelling the name R-A-Y, at some point, and it stuck. All of his son James' descendants have gone by Ray ever since. That line migrated to Nebraska, though.
