Classification: Query
Surnames: Hunter, Gilmour, Kinney, Campbell, Blair, Goggins, Alford, Blystone
Samuel Hunter was born 14 Feb. 1790 in St. Quivox and Newton, Ayrshire, Scotland, and christened the next day, 15 Feb. 1790 also in St. Quivox and Newton. [The name is pronounced KEE-VOX.] He was NOT, however, born "on a voyage from Ireland," as I have seen some research state, NOR was he born in Ireland.

Samuel's parents were DAVID HUNTER [b. 6 Dec. 1758 in Barrassie, Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland; d. 1820 at the family farm called Thornyflat, Ayrshire, Scotland] and ANN GILMOUR [b. 1761 Adrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland; d. unknown].

Samuel and his two brothers--DAVID GILMORE HUNTER and JAMES HUNTER--came to Pennsylvania probably about 1810-1815, first settling in Huntingdon Co., PA. The three brothers then moved to what became Blair Co., PA, between 1815-1820.

DAVID GILMORE HUNTER [23 Oct. 1783 St. Quivox and Newton, Ayrshire, Scotland; d. 14 March 1863 Bellwood, Blair Co., PA] married JANE KINNEY [b. 1799 Huntingdon Co, PA; d. 26 July 1877 Antis Twp., Blair Co., PA] about 1816-1817 in either Huntingdon or Blair Co. and lived in Bell's Mills [now Bellwood], Blair Co., PA. David and Jane had a family of eight (8) children: 5 boys and 3 girls. (If anyone would like more information on David Gilmore's children, please e-mail me.)

JAMES HUNTER [25 Jan. 1792 St. Quivox and Newton, Ayrshire, Scotland; christened 28 Jan. 1792 same place; d. unknown, probably in Somerset Co., PA]. James was a blacksmith and was widowered before 1850, but his wife's name may have been Janet (Jennet) Campbell. He had eight (8) children and I do not believe he ever re-married. (If anyone would like more information on James's children, please e-mail me.)

SAMUEL HUNTER married AGNES (NANCY) BLAIR on 25 May 1820 in Crawford Co., PA. Agnes was nicknamed Nancy, but she signed her name as 'Agnes.' Samuel and Agnes had five children:

1. JOHN BLAIR HUNTER
b. 4 March 1822 in Crawford Co., PA
d. 21 Feb. 1900 in Wood Lake, Burnett Co., WI

2. SAMUEL B. HUNTER
b. 12 Aug. 1823 in Crawford Co., PA
d. 22 May 1824 in Crawford Co., PA

3. WILLIAM HARRISON HUNTER
b. 10 Feb. 1827 in Crawford Co., PA
d. 1899 in Crawford Co., PA

4. ELOIE (ELOISA) JANE HUNTER
b. 4 May 1830 in Crawford Co., PA
d. 6 Nov. 1867 in Crawford Co., PA

5. MARGARET ANN HUNTER
b. 28 Oct. 1833 in Crawford Co., PA
d. 1905 in Blooming Valley, Crawford Co., PA

JOHN BLAIR HUNTER married twice and had a total of 13 children. His first wife was REBECCA JANE MALOTTE [b. 1827-1828 Crawford Co., PA; d. bet. 12 June 1859-30 June 1860 Diamond Bluff, Pierce Co., WI] and they had six (6) children. With a family to raise, JOHN BLAIR HUNTER married again on 31 July 1862 in Diamond Bluff, Pierce Co., WI to NANCY ANN GOGGINS [b. 20 Aug. 1838 in Salid, Ireland; d. 21 Oct. 1915 in Clam Falls, LaFollette Twp., Burnett Co., WI]. John and Ann, as she was called, had seven (7) children. (If anyone would like more information of John Blair's children, please e-mail me.)

WILLIAM HARRISON HUNTER married between 1847-1848 probably in Crawford Co., PA, to MARY ALFORD [b. 1824-1830 in NY; d. 1892 in Crawford Co., PA]. William and Mary had two children: son Alfred Franklin Hunter [b. about 1850; d. place unknown] and adopted daughter {before 1880}, Catharine Alford [b. 1868; d. place unknown]. According to the 1880 census, William was the proprietor of a cheese factory in the town of Blooming Valley, Crawford Co.

ELOIE (ELOISA) JANE HUNTER [b. 4 May 1830 in Crawford Co., PA; d. 6 Nov. 1867 in Blooming Valley, Crawford Co., PA] married about 1852 to FREDERICK A. BLYSTONE [b. 11 July 1831 PA; d. 1897 place unknown] and had two sons: ELIOTT C. BLYSTONE [b. 2 Dec. 1852 in Crawford Co., PA; d. 14 April 1930 in Dewittville, NY] and WILLIAM F. BLYSTONE [b. 1 Aug. 1854 in Crawford Co., PA; d. 14 Feb. 1937 in Union City, Guy Mills Co., PA]. Eloisa and her husband divorced at some point after 1860 but before her death in 1867. She and her two sons moved into her brother William's home in Blooming Valley. After Eloisa died, her sons remained with William.

MARGARET ANN HUNTER [b. 28 Oct. 1833 in Crawford Co., PA; d. 1905 in Blooming Valley, Crawford Co., PA] apparently never married.
