Rebecca Whitling Sands died at her home on East Main street, Emlenton, Tuesday morning, November 19, of heart failure after an illness of about a year.
Mrs. Sands was born Septemer 8, 1845, in Clarion county, a daughter of Fredrick and Catherine Ritts Whitling, both of which are deceased.
She was married in 1870 at Lamartine to F.F. Sands to which union two children were born.
Mrs. Sands was a member of the W.R.C. Missionary Aid Societies of the Reformed and Methodist churches, Red Cross, W.C.T.U., Civic Society and an energetic member of the Reformed church. She was kindly and generous and much of her time was given to ministering to those who were sick or in trouble. She was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Eva Carroll and the following brother and sisters: Mrs. Emma Vensel, Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. Lydia Attleberger, Oil City, and William Whitling, of Knox.
Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.D. Darbaker, and interment followed in the Emlenton cemetery.
