Cameron's Castle: from Scotland to SC to IL

I don't have a lot of information Apparently Thomas was born in the auld country and in Charles Town, SC by 1767 where Thomas, JR was supposedly born c 1800. This Thomas was the 4th family to move to Cass Township, Fulton County, IL. He arrived about 1824.

It should be understood there was more than one marriage between the Cameron and Cannon families of Fulton County. I have few dates.

Nancy Cameron 180-1871 m. Benjamin Cannon and had 10 children.
John Cannon m. Mary Jane Sherwood
...Telitha Cannon m. William Warfield
Permilla A. Cameron m. James F. Cannon and move to MN about 1858.
...John Hawthorne Cameron m. Mary Watson and they had James A., Alice, Martha, Elizabeth, Phoebe, Hanna K., and Sarah Ellen Cameron
...James Augustus Cameron "Jim Gus" m. Diantha Hinderlighter
......Dena A. m. Albion Little, and sec on after she was widowed.

Cameron, Canon, Warfield and Little are related by birth and marriage. These were large faming families who customarily had 10 or more children. There was many opportunities to marry neighbors. Telitha Cannon Warfield, for instance, married my grandmother'c uncle and had 12 children..

Mother said it was as easy to find 100 cousins in ten unrelated families as was to find double cousins, and cousins "three ways". .

I am still having problems finding Thomas as far as finding his birth and death date. He did live here in Cameron Co. with his family. I do have the 1900 Census with his last name spelled Kearney. He has fallen off the face of the earth. I could really use some help please.
Barb

I'm sorry I missed your reply both times. Ervin's obituary basically states he died in Bradford, Pa. the son of late Mr. and Mrs. William Priest and that he was married to Lillian Hart and they had 4 children. They give a list of brothers and his one sister and that he was interned in the Truman Cemetery. There is no mention of another family. This was printed in the Cameron County Press dated January 17, 1957. Nancy
Feel free to contact me at mrstee177@yahoo.com I'll be more likely not to miss an email.
I hope you get this message. I see Lynda never replied, but no, her mother's name was not Lillian. Ervin was married to Florence Partridge before he married Lillian and had about 6 children, one of whom is my husband, Erven Edward Priest. We thought Ervin only had 3 children to his second wife. If you have his obituary, we're very interested in seeing it. Also, if you have the names and addresses of his children to his second wife, we would like that, too. We met his one daughter, Mary, one time but have lost track of her.

Linda,

I was alerted to your post by a fellow researcher on Catherine Smith wife of Peter. I too am descended from Catherine Smith daughter of Benjamin Smith and his wife Mary Wilson. I have long felt Benjamin was a son of Catherine Smith but could not prove it. I would be pleased to discuss with you.

Bob

very distantly...I am decended from Michael Russell 1765-1835. Through Rueben Russell and Sarah Eiklor. I worked on the Russell Line for years in an effort to connect my Great Grandfather Hiram to this line. Until i began my work there was no info on many of the Russells you now find on my tree. I had to follow them all over the USA and back to complete the connection as I worked to find a living desendant that might help me in my search. Thus the branch containing your Grandfather Lynn. I figured as I hunted things down it was only right to add the info for anyone who came looking for thier roots....hope that helps.

She was an older sister of Abel Morse Stanton and I also strongly believe she was my 3rd great grandmother. Do you happen to have any information on her?
Many thanks,
Tammy

Its difficult moving in present times with a small child, let alone a newborn. I can't even begin to imagine the difficulties of moving that large a distance in the 1800s.

I would imagine William died in Wharton. I had thought of him living with one of the children as he got older. It seemed to be a common thing to do. I've not seen any mention of him living with George's family, but they were in a different county, though its not that far away.

There is a possibility of my going to Cameron County this coming weekend. If I'm able to get to Wharton, I'd be happy to take a look at the cemetery and see if I can find William there. I'll let you know what I find.

I will send you the information on the family. May I have your email address. I can send you what I have in the form of a book,,,I will start it with George, then give you my line from his father William.

I am inclined to believe that William died in Wharton because he was listed there in the city directory in 1904, and his wife is in the asylum in 1930. I could be though that he went to live with one of his children when his wife entered the hospital. Going to keep looking. I can only imagine how hard it was for William and Abigail to move from Maine to Pennsylvania in 1869. They traveled with a newborn baby, as well as several other children. Some stayed here in Maine because they had married and had families of their own.

Brenda

So that makes us cousins. Do you have the genealogy of his father and back? If not, I do and would be glad to share it. I am the gg-grandaughter of his brother Charles. Charles did not go to Pennsylvania, he remained here in Maine. Do you know where George's father William was buried? His mother is buried in Wharton Cemetery. William remarried a Susan, and I don't find him in the 1930 census, but Susan is in the hospital in Wharton.

Your Cousin
Brenda
