Germanus Voegtly married Maria Wilhelimina Eichenberg in 1853 in Somerset,Somerset Co.,PA. They lived in Johnstown
from the late 1850's until Germanus was lost in the 1889
Johnstown Flood, they also lost a daughter (Amelia) & son-in-law (John P.Hornick). One grandson survived, Leo W.
Hornick, he went on to become a doctor in Johnstown until
his death in the 1950's. An older son, Charles A. Voegtly
lived in Youngstown,Ohio. Their youngest daughter, Augusta
W.Voegtly, survived and eventually married Bernard Matern
in Illinois. Germanus was involved with the German newspaper
the Freie Presse in the early 1870's, and the German Building and Loan Association up until his death. He was a school teacher for 20 years at St.Joseph's Parochial. One of his son's, Julius Voegtly who died in 1880, had married Lizzie Rist and had 2 children, one of them was Charles M.
Voegtly who also survived the flood and lived in Johnstown
