Still looking for information on Jonathan Califf, son of Stephen Califf and Ruth Allen. The family moved from VT to Smithfield, Bradford Co., PA abt. 1812/14. Jonathan, b. 1794 - d. 1871, is buried in the Union Cemetery in Smithfield. He married a Polly Chamberlain, b. 1797, about 1820. She died in 1836. I believe they had five children, Samuel being the last, born in 1836. I am trying to confirm my ggr-grandfather, David Califf (b. 1825), as being one of their five children. He married a Harriet Knickerbocker 1840's. I am also trying to confirm an Obed Califf (b. 1830) as a child. He married Althea Knicerbocker in 1850. Both families are listed on the 1850 Franklin Twp. Census. Is there anywhere I can write that might have vital records that old? I would appreciate any information or direction, this has been a truly elusive family! Thank you. JoAnn
