I am seeking information on the mother of Henry C. Helsel (also spelled Heltzel, Hoeltzel, or Helzel). He was born 5/25/1820 in the Roaring Spring, PA area and married Catherine Albright in 1844 or 45 (according to his death certificate). He was baptized at the Newry Lutheran Church, who list his parents as John and Christina Helsel. Although the baptism record indicates that the mother's name is "Christina," this is apparently contradicted by a family record, which indicates that a Jane ("Jenny") Tipton-Helsel, also married to a man named "John" was the mother of "Henry C." This information was apparently recorded in Jane Tipton-Helsel's copy of the "Heidelberg Catechism of Reformed Churches," which, regretably, is lost. The catechism indicates that the wife of Henry C. was Catherine Albright, which conforms with the information on his death certificate. Other children of Jane and John Helsel recorded in the catechism are: Sarah (married to Jacob Ressler), Elizabeth (married to George Yingling), George (married to Sarah Singer), Edward (married to Maria Lingenfelter), David (married to Lavinia Fickes), and John (married to Margaret Feathers). According to my information, Jane (Jenny) Tipton-Helsel was born in 1792 and died between 1880 and 1890 in Blair County, PA. Her husband, John, was born 3/5/1791 and was the son of Henry Helsel and Eve Stiffler. John died around 1846. John and Jane's first child, Sarah, was born in 1812. If anyone has information regarding the mother of Henry C. Helsel that might resolve this apparent contradiction, please contact me.
