Layton, Martin families

Classification: Query
Surnames: Layton, Martin, Stull, Helman
A Layton family history was written in 1913, and I am trying to find more information on the facts I find in this history. “John Layton Sr. (my g-g-g grandfather) married Miss Mattie Martin, February 1809 and lived in Bedford County. Two girls were born (Nancy & Martha Ann). The wife died in 1812. John Layton Sr. served for two years in the War of 1812; after which he settled in Cambria County PA.” Martha Ann later married first David Stull (abt 1830) and second John Daniel Helman.

I have never found Mattie Martin’s family nor a record of their marriage.
I cannot find John Layton in the 1810 Census.
I cannot find any death or cemetery record for Mattie/Martha Layton in Bedford County.
I cannot find any records of John Layton’s service in the War of 1812.

Are there any Martin researchers who can give me more information on this family?
Any tips would be appreciated.
