Connie,
Thanks for your message. I have never been able to nail down Samuel Earley. I have seen references to him serving in the Revolutionary War and also having him come to America with two brothers. I can't confirm either of these statements with any documentation. I have also seen someone having Elizabeth Washburn as his wife. I would be very interested in any information you turn up. Andrew Rice Earley is my gg grandfather through his son John and granddaughter Margaret.
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I am very excited to finally read a string of posts relating to my family directly! I have much information that my father Joseph Edward and his brother Charles researched in the 1960's which I would be happy to share. But like yourself and seemingly everyone else, my quandry is whether our Samuel Earley was the Revolutionary War veteran or whether in fact he and two brothers instead came from Ireland. They wrote that according to family hearsay, he was born about 1755 in Glasgow, Scotland and arrived in American in 1782. It would make sense then that they would appear in the 1790 census!?

When I started doing this about 6 months ago, I copied some of the other family trees and may well have copied yours for this part of my tree. My question then is do we have direct proof that our Samuel was the Rev. War Samuel? Also, I copied our Andrew Rice Earley(1791-1870)from another tree which has the word (Mayflower) next to his name. If that is that case, then we should be able to trace our family, perhaps on the mother's side though, to the 1600's here in the States.

Also, I am not 100% on this but have Samuel's wife as possibly Elizabeth Washburn (1767-1849). Do you happen to have any further information on any of this?

Sincerely,

Your cousin Connie Early
Los Angeles, CA
daugher of Joseph Edward Early (1917-1980)

Hi - Thanks again for more information. You may be new at genealogy but you do know a lot!! Thanks heavens someone in your family kept all the information you have for the future generations!
I have several documents I would like to send you but will need an email address in order to do that. Mine is smlupinacci@gmail.com. It will be several days before I can get them together and send them to you. And they will probably be sent a few at a time. They are nice to have.
I have found quite a few of the early Seitz's are buried in Allegheny Cemetery. They have a very nice index of their burials which you might find interesting. And also Findagrave.com is very helpful for finding family burials. You may have already discovered that site. But I can't find George and Lillian listed at either site. Findagrave doesn't profess to be complete....it is based on user submissions.
The Black's came from County Tyrone, Ireland around the late 1820's, to Philadelphia first and then to Pittsburgh where they remained until now.
I did see the small Whitfield tree that you put on Ancestry.
I don't know if you can see my tree when you aren't an Ancestry subscriber.
Will have some things to send you soon.
Thanks again,
Sue
I am a beginner at genealogy. I have not posted a family tree anywhere if that is what you are asking. I have not paid to use ancestors.com and so this is the free part, I guess. I think my Grandmother Lillian Mae Seitz and Dr. George C. Seitz were buried at Plum Creek Cemetery. That is the only name I can remember. I was there in 1956, I think, when my grandmother Lillian Seitz died and I was 9 years old. So far, I don't know where Margaret Ann Black Seitz's husband is buried. And I don't know where Henry Seitz or Allen Seitz, his sons, are buried - Yet!

I live in York,PA and visited my "Pittsburgh" grandparents in Swissvale and Braddock, all my life. Have not been back since 1984 when the last of my relatives died. Western PA was the "stomping grounds" of my ancestors. My mother has mentioned Parnassus as a place where relatives lived. I think KIttaning and New Kensington are also places where they lived. And Butler comes to mind also. My relatives on both sides of my family settled in Armstrong, Westmoreland, and Allegheny counties as best I know. I was unaware of the name of the township that you mentioned. Is that near Slippery Rock?

Do you know anything about George Seitz, the butcher? After my Grandmother Seitz died, my mother found, among her effects, George's butcher knife, used in the Civil War. I was little and it seemed so big. That knife was given to George C. Seitz Jr. I would guess his son David George Seitz might have it now. He would be about 64 years old. I don't know whether he lives in New Jersey or Little Washington, PA, where he grew up. We lost touch.

I am so excited that you wrote back. When I found this two year old request, i had no idea that you would even find my answer. Thanks for the name Margaret Ann to my Ann Black. Her daughter Louisa, was close to her half-brother George C.Seitz, the doctor. I think she lived in the house behind his in Swissvale and I think my mother's aunt Louisa was a widow (John Wallace d. 1895) who had one leg amputated. I guess my Grandfather Seitz supported her. My aunt Peg was named Margaret Louise. I wonder if she was named after Margaret Ann Black's daughter Louisa? Although, George C. Seitz - my Grandfather, knew his father's half sister, he would not have known his great aunt's mother, margaret ann, who died so young. I can see why Louisa's mother was buried with her parents or in the Black Family plot . She was young (do you have her birth date?). Looks like Margaret Ann Black Seitz was married to George Seitz in 1841 and died in 1845, the same year my great, great aunt Louisa was born. I wonder if she died during child birth? This must have been terrible. Two other infants had died and then she dies.George Seitz is left as a widower with an infant. He remarried 10 years later. And that wife was a Margaret also (Margaret Stewart.)

Are you related to Margaret Ann Black's brother? I guess you would not have known that Margaret Ann Black Seitz even had a daughter, Louisa. Apparently she did not have children. She was widowed at the age of 50, but lived to the age of 94 (1845-1938). Mother always described her as being an old lady.

I would like info about your Black family. Did Margaret Ann die of child birth? tuberculosis? My mother feared that disease and there seemed to be a lot of death from it. It may have been an epidemic in the late 1800's? I know many women died in childbirth and many men were widowers with children who remarried at that time history. Tough time coming off the civil war when so many died of war and disease in the decade of 1860's.

If I can be more help to you with dates, etc. , please let me know. Other relatives of mine on my father's side are Col. William Crawford, Elizabeth McCormick, Theodore Davis, Sarah Shaw Davis, Finley Kennedy Whitfield. Crawford County is named after the Col. I am also trying to find a John (b. 1808) and Mary Thomas Armstrong (b. 1830) who had a daughter Emma Armstrong in 1857 and who lived in Parnassus. She married Cyrus Masters and Cyrus and Emma Masters had a baby girl in 1881, Lillian Mae Masters who married George C. Seitz, son of Henry and grandson of George Seitz and his second wife Margaret Stewart. ( his first wife was Margaret Ann Black Seitz.) Perhaps there is some relationship with the Blacks and these aforementioned families.

Most of my relatives are Scotts, Scots-Irish from Brookeborough, Fermanagh, Ireland, and Brits from Kent, England. The Seitz's are from Hesson, Germany and emigrated 1808. Emma Armstrong is related to Col Armstrong, "hero of Kittaning" for whom Armstrong County was named. If you know anything about the Armstrongs or possible resources from W. PA, I would appreciate your passing that along too.

Thank you for sharing your info. It was nice to meet you!

Hello - I am most impressed with the Seitz history that you sent me. Mine was an older post and since I originally posted I have found very little about the Seitz families. I had some of the information you sent but you sure cleared up some of the major questions I had, with the most major one being that I didn't have a second wife of George Seitz...I had the children but not their mother. Now things make more sense.
My interest in the Seitz families comes from Ann Black (who I had as Margaret Ann Black). She was the daughter of my gggrandparents, Robert and Margaret Black. I have much information on the Black side of the family as my maiden name was Black. I originally found Margaret Ann Seitz buried in the Black plot in Allegheny Cemetery and had to try to figure out who she was and where the Seitz name came from. It has been a real sticking point for me for a long time. And you sure cleared up a lot of questions for me.
I am in the process of adding your information to my Ancestry tree. I'm sure I will come up with some questions that perhaps you will be able to answer. One right off the top of my head is where are the family members buried? That is something I have been looking for for a long time also.
I live north of Pittsburgh and am familiar with Allegheny Cemetery. I live in Butler County which is adjacent to both Allegheny County and Armstrong County, (where some of the Seitzs' were, such as Cowanshannock Twp.)
Please keep in touch. I think you from the bottom of my hear for this elusive information.
Do you have a tree of Ancestry or anywhere?
Sue Black Lupinacci

Laurie,

I should note that my interest is the Riggle family.

I looked in the book "Riegell to Riggle" by Carl Robert Riegel and James Earl Reigle and there is no John Henry or any variation such as Johann Heinrich that fits your John Henry.

FamilySearch Family Trees has a John Reigel and Margaret about the right ages.
https://familysearch.org/tree/?icid=fsGlobalNavFamilyTree#vi...
This John is shown as s/o Henry Riergel and Mary Margaret Flick.

This couple is listed in "Riegell to Riggle", but it shows no John born about 1826 to that family. In fact it showns no children after 1817. However, it does state that both Henry and Mary Margaret passed in Curlisville, Clarion Co, PA. It also states that the family moved to Toby Twp, Armstrong Co about 1818. The information came from a Bruce Koons of Houston, TX.

I am looking for any information on this person, who I believe was born about 1806 in Westmoreland (but possibly Franklin) county but relocated to Armstrong county when he was 24 and farmed there until he died, according to a biography of his son, Jacob. I believe he was married to a Maria Shutt, and they had 7 children: Catherine, John, Susanna, Lydia, Jacob, Sara and Philip. Sara was my g-g-grandmother. David's parents could possibly be John Peter Scholl and Elizabeth Schutrz/Scherz, OR Henry Shull and Margaret Loscher. With the spelling variations - SHULL, SCHULL, SCHOLL, SCHALL, SCHELL - it's hard to determine if I'm finding the correct person or not. Thank you for any information provided, it will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have been searching for years for obits for either of these two, and haven't found either one. To clarify one thing though, Harvey did not hang himself, he was executed by hanging for the murder of his wife Bertha one year earlier.
I have also been searching for the son of Harvey and Bertha, Raymond, born Oct 5, 1902. I would welcome any info anyone has regarding this son.
Thanks,

I am researching this family. There was a John Burns in Sugarcreek township during the earlier time period that could be the father of Thomas. mary Ann Boyd's parents were Robert Boyd and elizabeth A. Milligan. I have more on the Milligan line.

Peter W Braun married Myrtle M Beck from Pittsburgh, PA. They lived on Mill St. Ext.,Frazer Twp., Allegheny Co. Just about 1/8 of a mile from my home. That part of Frazer Twp. is now Tarentum Boro., Allegheny Co.,PA. The property they owned is now under the Allegheny Valley Expressway road. The property was purchased by Penn Dot for the highway and Peter & Myrtle Braun moved to Dickey St., Tarentum,PA. Peter died in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Hgts, PA in 1974 before the highway was completed. I have his ob. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery on Hazelwood Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA. They had no children. Myrtle is buried they also. I have her Estate papers. Her small estate was left to Corinna & Virginia Beck, her nieces. Daughters of William Leo Beck, Jr. Virigina Beck is deceased and I'm still looking for Corinna Beck who had lived in Monroeville, Allegheny Co.,PA. See my AWestern Families ancestry file on Ancestry. Are you related to the Braun family? Peter's mother was living in West Tarentum and her children were with her. The last census I have for her, son William Brown was still with her. My husband is in a nursing home, he has been very sick. When I get some free time I will go to the catholic church in West Tarentum to see if they will look at the cemetery records for the mother. If you want copies of what I have just let me know. I need the death dates for Peter Joseph Braun. I will be going to Pittsburgh next week to get the Will for Virginia Beck, which I need. I have her ob also. My e-mail is grimml@verizon.net Thanks for the reply, Libby

Libby: Peter Braun died in Michigan and I have his death papers. He was married to Kunigunda Maus and I have some of her family history back in Germany. I also have Peter's family (although not much). I do not know much about the Braun's but I do know that Gunda (as she was called in one of the census records never remarried and she raised her children by herself. Peter had gone to Michigan to find work as apparently he could find nothing in PA. I am related to her daughter Elizabeth who married a Jentgens. My husband was the Jentgens side of the family and I have been working on this family for a number of years but have found very little about their transport to this country and whether Kunigunda and Peter married in the US or in Germany before they came here. I believe that he came first and she came after and that they married here in the US but I have not been able to prove that yet. Peter Jr. was their last child. Elizabeth was born in 1896 in Ford City and is listed on her birth certificate as Elizabeth Brown. Kunigunda is listed on all the census records but her name is always spelled some other way. I even found her listed as Kathryne on one of them. Wishing you lots of love and luck in your search. Please stay in touch and if you find anything good please let me know. You may contact me direct if you like at PPJent@aol.com

I am researching the BRAUN family that lived in Kittanning, Armstrong Co.,PA. A son Peter W. BRAUN born Jan 5, 1898 in Ford City, PA and died May 31, 1974 in Natrona Hgts, Allegheny Co.,PA in Allegheny Valley Hospital. He lived on Dickey St. Tarentum, Pa. He married Myrtle Beck from Pittsburgh, PA. They had NO children. I believe his father was Peter Braun & his mother was Kunigunda (maiden name unknown). Kunigunda is listed in the directory of Kittanning, PA for 1912 as a widow of Peter Braun. Living with her as boarders are Elizabeth, Peter & William Braun. I would guess her husband Peter Braun is buried in Kittanning somewhere. Son Peter W. Braun & wife Myrtle are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA according to his obituary. How would this family be related to the Hazlett family, which you & I have been connection with for sometime. Libby
