Hi,
I don't know if this will help you or not but here goes -

I've found over the years that you can't read to much into why the census records don't always line up with the info you have. Sometimes it makes no sense at all. Like when my brother-in-laws grandmother Rose one year shows up as Violet. I know they are both flowers both they are not even close. Emil & Emmauel I can understand. Or my great-grandmother who didn't age in 10 years. She is listed as the same age in 1910 & 1920.

All this to say that unless you can find other records as to why they would intentionally lie you may never know. Could just be the census taker missunderstood or make a mistake or the resident misspoke, any number of reasons.

I guess this doesn't help much.
