Stewart - Tragic Death

Following are several accounts detailing the tragic death of HUGH STEWART, a resident of Allegheny City, Pennsylvania. I am trying to find his connection to my 2nd great-grandfather, WILLIAM H. STEWART (born abt 1825 in Ireland. Hugh (born 1833-34 in Ireland) is buried in the plot with William and his wife, GRACE BRANYAN. They are buried at Uniondale Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Allegheny City is located across the river from Pittsburgh and was annexed into the city. It is now referred to as the Northside.)

Hugh is first listed in the 1860 Allegheny City census with his first wife, Elizabeth, and son, James. I believe the second account of Hugh's death to be the more accurate one since James, born in Pennsylvania in 1854, would have been about 13 years in 1867.

It is sad that this accident occurred after Hugh had survived his involvement in the Civil War.

I have been trying to track down Hugh's immigration record, his son, James, and the second wife, but haven't had success.

If I can uncover more information it would be a great help in finding his relationship to my William and their place of origin in County Down.

I would appreciate any help and advice in toppling this brickwall.

Thanks in advance, Carol Battin
