Other than the Tax Lists the first reference, in Adams Co., PA, for Conrad is an ad in the Adams Sentinel, dated May 8, 1842, headlined "Pennsylvania Riflemen!" It is signed Conrad Stultz O.S. and orders members, "...to parade at the Inn of Alexander M'Grew two miles below Mumasburg on the Hometown road."

The family of Nicholas Stultz came from Carroll Co., MD and in a document (retainer agreement) found at the Adams Co. Historical Society he seeks information about his father's pension. On February 18, 1852 he engaged David McConaughy (an attorney) to, "...recover the claims to pension... Bounty lands and dues, in the right of the service of my father Conrad Stultz in the war of the Revolution - who died 12 years ago - both in Carroll Co. Maryland." We refer to his father as Conrad Stultz [The Elder].

There are a number of references to Nicholas in documents found at the Carroll Co. Historical and Genealogical Society. Two refer to his father's will and one to a auction sale of his father's property in Carroll Co., MD. A Conrad Stultz [The Younger] is also recorded in the document but no relationship is noted.

In March, 1842, Conrad [the younger] married a Matilda Leas, "...from Carroll County, MD..." Conrad's, possible brother, Grandville Stultz moved from Adams Co., PA to MD for a time after his marriage.

Nicholas's grandfather, also called Nicholas, is named in his grandfather's will who lived in Fredrick Co., MD.

Since his father and mother lived in Carroll Co., MD I must assume that Nicholas lived with them in MD. I recall a mention that Conrad [the elder] came to MD from Lancaster Co., PA. It is possible that Nicholas was born there.

I have some recollection of Conrad coming to Adams Co., PA before his father and mother. I just can't find the record.

Still the question remains, Is Conrad the son of Nicholas?
