The original poster posted eight total messages and hasn't posted since April 2001. But, she is the Director of the Gage County Historical Society.

Lesa, when you post it is important to provide basic criteria information, DOB, place of Birth, etc. In this case, I did find who you were seeking. However, there is no results when seeking this name for any shipwrecks. He may not have been Captain, or identified in any news article. The name of the ship is also important if there was any mention of that in the family lore.

The Bremen, Germany Sailors Registry, 1824-1917:
Albert Janssen Van Borkum, born in Emden 1839, residence in Emden, the collection: "des Bremer Wasserschouts, 1837-1873."
The record showed voyages from April 4, 1857 to Dec 10, 1861

Appears to be the Captain of the Rina:
http://books.google.com/books?id=yiYiAQAAIAAJ&q=%22Alber...

The California Voter Records, 1866-1898:
Albert Jansen Van Borkum, age 39, born in Germany, a Sailor, in First Ward of Alameda County, naturalized March 8, 1871 in Sheboygan County, WI.
The "46 and OS" in the Oregon Death Index indicate that he died out of state. In fact the Washington state records show that he died in Vancouver, Clark county, Washington (likely at the Veterans' Hospital there, although that's speculation on my part). The Washington records also show that his residence was outside of Washington state.

Have not been able to find immigration records. Best guess is between 1884 and 1901 as my grandfather shows up in the 1901 Canada Census.
My grandfather's name was Robert Alexander James Brown. The sister was Nellie Mysie McRitchie Brown. My grandfather stayed in Manitoba but the siblings went on to BC & then south. I have no confirmation of this but my uncle went to 'Uncle Billy' in Portland?? approx 1926 for training in accounting.
I tried to find William in the 1901, 1911 & 1921 US Census with no luck.

He did not stay in Canada but went south to Portland, Oregon where I know he was living in the 1920's.
I've been unable to find him on any U.S. census & would appreciate any help.

The obituary found by barbdale_1 can correct the Find a Grave reference to Richard's mother. Richard also buried at Belcrest.

Find a Grave:
Henry E Myers
Birth: 1878 in Warrington, Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA
Death: 1962 in Salem, Marion, Oregon, USA
SPOUSE: Bertha Myers (1881-1969)maiden name unknown
Buried: Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem

It makes sense to seek Murrid Howell Myers at Belcrest Cemetery, at least to rule it out. Sometimes people are buried in a family plot even if they did not live in the area when they died. Have you been in contact with that cemetery? Not all burials are recorded on Find a Grave.

I attended a meeting with the subject, "I've Had My DNA Tested - Now What?" as a guest. The speaker was great and she had a handout that can be found on line here:

http://www.jgsws.org/meetings.php

Click on Download Handout found under the title of the meeting.

She did comment that FamilyTree DNA has the largest database and was started for one purpose only - DNA testing. She lists some good books as well as internet resources.

I would also suggest you post on the Mc/MacIntosh board/s. You might find more individuals interested in participating. The more samples you have the better.

If you have not already done do I would post on these boards also:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/mcintosh/

http://genforum.genealogy.com/macintosh/

and this forum, which does draw researchers. Believe it or not I have had good luck with researchers on this forum:

http://www.findagraveforums.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&...

It is a yDNA study. As there were only about a dozen MacIntosh (any spelling) families in Glenurquhart in the 1700s it is not a big job to track down a descendent of each family, theortically. However, the Nova Scotian immigrants are proving difficult. Thank you for your help. You have tied up thsi loose end. Regards John Mc

While Katherine and Duncan were born in Massachusetts they are found on the 1911 Nova Scotia Census.

Duncan also joined the Canadian military during WWI. He gave his address as Garden of Eden Pictou Co NS. He registered with the U.S. Consulate as a U.S. Citizen in 1918 again giving the Garden of Eden address and resided there from 1910 to the present date of July 31, 1918.

His father, William Mac/McIntosh was a Canadian citizen and his mother was born in Massachusetts.

It was not unusual to have families go back and forth across the border - living for a while in the U.S. and then Canada. The rules weren't as strict as they are today, but Duncan did register with the Consulate so there would be evidence of his U.S. Citizenship and claimed the NS address was temporary!

There is a Duncan MacIntosh born Oct 23 1896; died Aug 16 1980 Washington County, Oregon. I have attached his obituary.

His WWII Draft Registration Card states he was born in Wakefield, Mass. and resides in Spokane, Washington.

However, the section "Name and Address of the person who will always know your address" contains:
Mrs. Alex Fraser
2203 E 3rd

On the 1940 US Census Alex Fraser was born about 1887 in Canada and his wife, Katherine, was born about 1901 in Massachusetts. They have a daughter, Dorothy, born about 1924 in Washington and a son, John, born about 1928 in Washington. Duncan MacIntosh is listed as brother-in-law, born about 1899 in Massachusetts.

Katherine's death record lists her father as William McIntosh and her mother as Mary Frances Daherty.

Do you think these might be the individuals you seek?

obit of wiliam Meyr/Meyer stated there was a brother in Oregon.....
Jurgen Heinrich Frederick Meyer came about 1869 settled in Tete des Morts, Jackson county, Iowa. Perhaps his brother with unknown name came then. Fred moved to Churdan area of iowa and married by 1882 to Mary Schenk.
Juergen Heinrich Wilhelm Meyer came 1884 to Lohrville, Iowa. After four years he moved to Reading, township in Calhoun county area. One village often refered to was Farnhamville. It is his orbit in 1929 that said he had two sisters and one brother in germany. It also said he had one brother in Oregon. Sisters married names are Margret Stille, Doris or Dora Koenig, Schmobel [ shipping busines] Mary Fehring. a couple other sisters..??.
Maternal names Luhmann, Heins, Behens,Schenk, Rickens,Michels, Michaels,Ahrens. Home regions in germany are Oldendorf/Nahrendorf by 'Rothen' and Radenbeck. Williams wife Heins came from Begen area of Celle.
My grandfather was Herman Meyer and his brother William moved to Minnesota in early 1910.
I would appreciate any leads.
thanks

I wondered if I replied.J. H. Fritz Fred, Frederick Mier, Miyer,Mayer,Meyer born December 1851 at Oldendorf, church Nahrendorf oldendorf an der goehrde. He said he was from Bleckede. wife- Narie Dora Schenk mother Sophie Rickens. In 1868 Fred received letter written to his parents saying he should come to america as galena wonderful. Blacksmiths, Schmiedes. Written by mrie Moelleman. the next letter was from Marie Ahrens saying he should come, her husband wants him to come and she mentions how much etc. I believe it is his sisters who are also asked to come Galena, Jo Daviess illn.[ I HAVE NOT FOUND THEM ON CENSUS]
FrRed or fritz has permission or does leave april 28, 1969. hamburg list... Not sure when he arrived to new york not sure who was on ship. But he did not stay long at jo Daviess county, Illnois. He was at Tete des morts, jackson county 1870 and 1880. Names varry and he was in the same area as future- in- laws schenk and ricken[s]. A Michel near also. Schroder could be family as well.
William also went to Iowa. Fred was suppose to help him. Perhaps that is why fred married in 1882. He moved to churdan highland greene county.
William went to Lohrville first four years and then to reading calhoun county. dawson area famiy nahnson/meyer.William left feb. and arrived to usa april 6th or 8, 1884 on Frisia ship. They were at Eichdorf and later Oldendorf an der goehrde.... and bleckede. His real mothers family was Luhmann some of these from Kleinbur or dorf went to calhoun county also. They were closer to Farnhamville than the others. They attended st peters church there.
Fred died in train and railroad tracks and their car in 1918 on way to michigan and traveled through Lombard or Lemont illnois.
His wife had died before that.

Now I wonder about the brother in oregon... Had he come to america to escape military. Did he already have it. Was he in agreement with Fred too. I don't think he made the same agreement. He may have been a result of his new mother. Or maybe they did not get a new mother. But Fred was young when his mother died. the others were older.

They did get a stepmother Catharine Dorothea Ahrens from Mucklingen--- of the Hermann Molleman or Holman family in 1870 censes at Jackson county Iowa. Mary was related to Freds new wife. And they relate to Schenk, Rickens, Michels
so much more. Anyway sons from that marriage was Adolph Heinrich Friedrich born 8.Jun.1864 at Roethen which is by Oldendorf in der Goehrde. and other son born April 1867 named Hermann Rudolph Friedrich Meyer

Re: Hiram A. Moore died Nov. 18,1935 Salem, Oregon

Chris,

I am researching the More/Moore family for my husband. Here is what I have found so far: Jeremiah and Mary L. Zornes Moore>Martin and 2nd wife, Emily F. Hogg Moore>Mary Jane Moore.

I have just recently discovered from another researcher about Martin's older brother Hiram. Do you have any information about Hiram's brothers John W., Philip, Martin, Jeremiah and sister Martha? I have them on the 1850 Clayton Co., Iowa Census, 1856 Iowa State Census for Madison Co., for 1860 I found Jeremiah, Mary, Philip, Martin and his family still in Madison Co., Iowa. Haven't located brother's John & Jeremiah for the 1860 census. By 1870 Jeremiah, Mary, John W. and Philip are in Clackamas Co., Oregon. Martin and family are still in Madison Co., Iowa. I found brother Jeremiah in 1870 in Yakima Co., Washington. I still have not discovered what became of Martin Moore, by 1880 Emily Frances is married to John Mills Hole.

We live here in Oregon, but did not have any knowledge of Jeremiah and Mary until I started doing this research. I have shared my findings with other family members and no one knew of their ancestors being early Oregon Pioneers. Martin's daughter Mary Jane Moore Hole left Iowa about 1904 and went to northeastern Oregon and ended up in the Columbia County area of Washington. She left her children in Iowa, three of them later ended up in the Dayton and Walla Walla, Washington area also. Flossie and her husband came out to Montana from Iowa in 1935 and lived out their lives there. It is actually kind of interesting that several generations later Jeremiah and Mary's G.G.G.Grandson would live only 2 hours from their resting place.

We went to Clackamas County this last week hoping to find some information about Jeremiah, Mary, John, Philip and Jeremiah, but the trip was some what disappointing. We visited the Genealogy society at the Museum of the Oregon Territory and the person that assisted did not find the family in any of the cemetery indexes that she looked at...I did get a copy of an index listing for Philips Probate, it did say that H. Moore of Ashland, KY and R.J. Moore of Dillon, MT were his heirs. I am going to make a trip to the state archives to get the probate records in the next month. I also went to a library in Oregon City and found 3 newspaper articles about Philips passing, one mentions that he was buried next to his father and mother, but no mention of which cemetery!

I would be interested in corresponding with you off the message board. I think I mailed you previously, but possibly I didn't have enough information to show you a connection. Message me through my profile.

Debbie

I made a big mistake, the actual date of the notice on their license was in the Oregonian, April 26, 1916. For some reason, the edit button is not showing up so I can not correct my previous post.

I looked at the Washington digital archives, but couldn't find their actual marriage license there. I searched on just first names, just one last name, etc. but no luck
http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov
They took their license out in Vancouver, Clark County Washington. It was common for people in Portland to marry there, I think because of a shorter waiting period.

Looking for lost family connected with Steinmueller, Foster, or Braun from Wisconsin. Ethel Dolly Steinmueller was living in Oregon with a cousin. Herbert Foster may have moved to Oregon from Washington where he lived when he was in the navy and as a firmen in Kent, King Washington.

There was an Vancouver marriage license notice in the Oregonian, April 16, 1930 for Herbert A. Foster, age 30, and Ethel Steinmuller, 23, both of Porland. I didn't find their license in the Washington digital archives.
In the 1920 census, there is a Herbert A. Foster, age 34, born South Dakota, Ethel his wife, and Dolores, age 3 1/2, all living in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They are living next to the family of Charles Steinmuller.

I think that Pearl's Mother was definitely Ella Mullins Hargis Thompkins. It is hard to know at this point if Ella married a Thompkins after Elisha died. I wonder if Pearl married a Young first, or if that was some kind of Middle name? Don't you wish we could go back and ask these people what was up?!

Im confused as one bible entry says that Pearls mother is Ella Mullin and the other says Ella Thompkins. I don't know if she was remarried after Elisha passed away.

In 1900 census under "Special Inquiries relating to Indians"
It shows Ella as a mixed blood, being 1/8 cherokee.

There was another entry in the bible for Pearl which makes everything more confusing, at least for me. It shows her name as Pearl Young Thompkins.

Thank you for the scans - that helps. Now, this is interesting - I found some information that Elisha's middle name was Tompkins. Google "Elisha Tompkins Hargis" and you will find some earlier messages from people. However, there is no real documentation, and someone claims he had two children from his first marriage to Nancy Walker. In his application for the Indian Rolls (he was denied, as was Ella and their children) he said he was only with Nancy for a few months, then divorced about a year later. Anyway, if Elisha died in November of 1903, and Pearl was born in April, she certainly could be his child.

Ella Thompkins I assume was the mother of Pearl and from my research I believe pearl's father was Elisha Hargis. Who died the year pearl was born. I dont ever see pearls name in the census which makes me question that. Elisha's first wife was a Nancy Jane Walker of the Cherokee nation.

I have attached a photo of the bible entries.

Floyd was married to three women within his lifetime,
The first being, Eva Maude Hall,

The second was, Pearl Maybell (unknown maiden name)
I have an estimate as too when and where they were married. The facts came out of a bible but it was scribbled in so it was hard to make out::

March 20, 1930
Marriage of Floyd to Pearl Dean
Sweetwater, TX, USA

and his last wife was, Lilly Mae (unknown maiden name)
It helps if you post what you already know - I found more information from findagrave, which was really helpful. Even if you just post a link to your entry there, that would help.
This looks like Pearl in 1910, based on what you have at findagrave.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M237-ZQP

Simon Peter Hargis is in the California death index, and it says his Mother's maiden name was Mullins
http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/search.cgi

This looks like Ella Thompkins death in Texas in 1922.
