"Rites Held Tuesday For Minta Schmoe
Funeral services for Mrs. Minta Victoria Schmoe, 89, a resident of this community for the past 29 years, were conducted at the Newberg Friends church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Reb. Charles Beals and Rev John Frankhauser officiating. Mrs. Schmoe passed away Sunday at the Willamette Hospital.
She was born April 22, 1865, at Cottonwood, Kans., the daughter of Jessie and Barbara Moon. A birthright Quaker, for the past 29 years she had been a member of the Newberg Friends church. She married Ernest C. Schmoe at Lawrence, Kans., August 27, 1889. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary August 27, 1954.
Mrs. Schmoe came to Oregon from Colorado. She was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and was past president of that organization.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest, Newberg, two daughters, Karlena Martin, Newberg, and Inez Voorhees, Whittier, Calif.; three sons, Geary Schmoe, Newberg, Floyd W. and Othel H. Schmoe, Seattle; one brother, J. Floyd Moon, Los Angeles, Calif.; 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
At the funeral service, Mrs. Frank Colcord sang two selections, accompanied at the organ by Carl Reed. Pallbearers, Merl Russell and Ray Schmoe, and Eldred Browning. Interment was in the Friends cemetery. Hollingsworth-Smith funeral chapel was in charge of arrangements."

"Ernest Schmoe Dies Here at Age of 90
Funeral services for Ernest Schmoe, 90, were held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Smith Funeral chapel with Rev. John Frankhouser and Rev. Charles Beals officiating. Melvin Lamm sang with Miss Genevieve Mills at the organ. He died Saturday at Willamette hospital.
Mr. Schmoe was born November 14, 1865, at Julietta, Ind., the son of Ernest and Karlena Schmoe. On August 27, 1889 he was married to Minta Victoria Moon at Lawrence, Kan. Mrs. Schmoe passed away on October 31, 1954. A resident of the Newberg area for the past 30 years and joined the Friends church at Prairie City, Kansas, 60 years ago. He was superintendent of buildings and grounds at Pacific (George Fox) college from 1926 to 1935, when he retired.
He is survived by two daughters: Karlena Martin of Newberg, Inez Voorhees of Whitter, Calif.; three sons: Geary Schmoe of Newberg, Floyd and Othel Schmoe of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters; Mattie Borland of Grand Junction, Colo., and Carrie Wambold of Elizabethtown, Ind.; one brother, Ed Schmoe of Ashland, Ore. There are 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Interment was in the Friends cemetery."
