Is anyone able to look up 2 obituaries? One problem is I don't know the city, just that they passed away in Umatilla Co.
One is Elmer William (or William Elmer) Raines, b.abt.1869 WV. d? But I think it is 12 Feb 1941.
The other is Harvey H.Raines, d.18 Jan 1954.
Harvey is Elmer's son.
I am not sure how difficult it would be to look up without a city.

Listed in Malheur Co. 1900 census with a wife & daughter but they seem to have "disappeared" by 1910. Any information provided would be appreciated. His wife's name was Mary (unknown maiden name or where from) and daughter was Elizabeth, b.1898 in Idaho. An aside: he was an amateur artist of nature/outdoors/landscapes. Possible medium: watercolor. Seems he may have died in Idaho in 1917.

Hello,

I am looking for a volunteer in Umatilla Co to help me find my g-grandmother’s records.

I am looking for Umatilla Co. courthouse records on a MARY ETTA (FARLEY) READ b. 1888 in Linn Co., Missouri and last known residence was either Weston or Athena in Umatilla Co. between 1912-1920. I have not found a death record or cemetery record for her online so I am hoping someone can check the courthouse for me.

Mary Etta disappeared between 1912-1920 leaving behind five children under the age of 12 and she was never heard from again.

So I am hoping there is someone out there interested in helping to solve a family mystery that has deeply affected my family in so many ways.

Please let me know if you are interested and I can provide further detail.

Thanks – Heather
Looking for anyone who can help me with the BAILEY / WILEY family names from Umatilla County. I'm searching for William Henderson BAILEY who was born in Canada c1845. He was house painter, last known residence is Milton, Umatilla Co, Oregon where he lived for 40 years according to the USA census records. He was married 3 times, (1) Edna with children Mary, Theresa, Ralph M. all born in Michigan, (2) Ellen MARTIN with children Wilbur H. and Ella Edna and (3) some time after 1910 he married a Retta E. On the 1910 census his sister Sarah B. Wiley is living with him. She too was born in Canada c 1840, she is listed as a widow, and listed as being a mother of three children. Any help with these two family names would be greatly appreciated.

Olav

Teague and Elder Harold Blalock of the Condon Baptist Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Mathlon Stoneman and their three children, Curran, Alcy Jane and Yvonne, attended the funeral of their mother and grandmother Friday, returning to their home in Hermiston Saturday.
Hi Everyone,

I am inquiring about an Olive Paterson Jones who died in 1902
in Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon. She was born in
1816 in New York state, she married a John Jones born 1813
in New York state. In about 1880 she and her son William
Willard moved to Umatilla county, Oregon. William Willard
later died in Oregon. All her children, Eliza who married a
Thedore Gray also spelled Greye, John Andrew, followed by the two adopted sons, Charles P. Jones, and Joseph Huff. I believe they all lived in Umatilla county, Oregon. Olive died there in 1902 in Umatilla county, Oregon in Pendleton. I am trying to research the family to find out more information about them.

I am also interested in a Abraham Jones that also went to Umatilla, but I can't prove that they are related. Any information would be appreciated.

One son Levi Lyman did stay in Wisconsin, and he is a brother to all the others. He lived in Juneau county, Wisconsin all his life.

Carol McBain
Centerville/Athena Church History Available

If you had ancestors in the Centerville/Athena/Weston/Adams/Helix/Milton Freewater area in the 1860's through the 1960's, chances are some of them were associated with the Centerville/Athena Christian Church. Over 1300 names of members have been listed and alphabetized, and several pioneer families who attended the church before 1900 have been researched. This 2 1/2 year research project has resulted in a 120-page book and accompanying computer CD telling the 130-year story (illustrated with over 100 photos) of the first congregation in the Athena area, from its pioneer days as the Wildhorse Congregation (1873-1880) and Centerville Congregation (1880-1889), to the present-day Athena Christian Church. To find out if anyone in your family was a member of this historic congregation, or to receive order information about the church history materials, please contact Kayla Durfee, Research Historian, via e-mail at durf3@juno.com.

John L. Smith's and Nanna/Nanie J./Nannie/Nancy J. Harper's Family

John Lewis Smith served as constable in Athena from an unknown time until probably shortly before his death in 1907. According to records, on 26 Oct 1884 John L. Smith married Nanie J. Harper in Union Co., and I believe this is "my" John Lewis Smith and that Nanie probably is Nancy J. Harper, daughter of Nicholas Harper who lived in the Pendleton area. I've found John, his wife "Nanna," and five children (Jesse, Bernice, Roy, Bessie, and Earl) in the 1900 federal census that covers Athena.

Following John's death his father wrote to another relative that " . . . he [John] left a wife and six children, the youngest a boy of 10 years," so there seems to be a child missing here . . . either born after the 1900 census or possibly an older child living away from home.

Presuming Nanna would remarry following John's death, I searched for a marriage and came up with Nannie Smith marrying Charles W. Geisler 13 Jul 1909 in Umatilla Co. I was hoping the 1910 census would show the name of the missing child from Nanna's first marriage, especially if it were the youngest, but so far I've not been able to turn up a 1910 census record for Charles and Nannie.

If anyone has any knowledge to share about this family, I'd be most grateful.

Beth
In 1900 Lee and Clara Morgan had been married for four years. Are there marriage records for Oregon in 1896? Does anyone know when and where Lee Morgan died?
Looking for the grave of my gggrandmother, Rachel Ann Knight Reid, b. Missouri, 1841. She is shown in the 1920 census living in the household of her daughter and son-in-law, Walter C. Loyd. As she was almost 80 years old at that time, I speculate that she would probably have died soon thereafter. Her son James Howard Reid also lived in Hermiston so it is possible that she could be buried with him and his 1st wife, Genevieve &/or 2nd wife, Mabel. Genevieve died on 7 Apr 1926. Mabel died on 11 Dec 1948 and it is unknown when Howard died. Any assistance would be appreciated. Don't have very much info to go on but thought someone might be able to help.

John Lewis and Nannie (Harper ) Smith Family of Athena

I'm searching for a missing child of the above couple, who lived in Athena. John was both a farmer and a constable, and he's buried in the Athena Cemetery. When John died in 1907 his father (who is my 2nd ggrandfather) wrote a note to a relative telling her of John's death and adding that he "leaves behind a wife and 6 children, the youngest a boy of 10."

I've found the family in the 1900 federal census along with their last five children: Jessie E., Bernice, Roy, Bessie, and Earl (who was born in 1897, which makes him the 10-year-old in the letter). Also in this census Mother Nannie says she's had 6 children and 6 are still living, so the number of children in this family isn't a figment of their grandfather's imaganation.<g>

I've haunted the 1900 censuses of OR, WA, and ID for a child born between 1884 (the year John and Nannie were married) and 1888 (birth year of the next child, Jessie E. above) and one who is not listed as a son or daughter. There are three close matches in Umatilla Co., but the birthplaces listed for their parents don't quite match those of John (Iowa) and Nannie (Oregon).

Does anyone know of this family or have suggestions for further searching?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Beth

Mabel L. Brown passed away on 09 Jan 1998. The SSDI lists her last residence as Milton Freewater. I would appreciate someone locating the obituary for me. If it indicates her husband, Harvey, passed away before her, would you be so kind as to find his obituary too. Thanks, Fran, Iowa

John C. Bowmer b. 1817 and son Harrie L. Bowmer of Weston 1893

I am looking for death information on Judge John C. Bowmer father of Harrie L. Bowmer. They both were liiving in Weston in 1893.

Illustrated History of Oregon by H.K. Hines
Harrie L. Bowmer
"In the fall of 1890, he was induced by the Republicans of Umatilla County to go to Pendleton and take charge of the Pendleton Tribune and conduct it through the fall campaign of 1890. As soon as the campaign was over, he bought the Weston Leader took charge of it and has built it up until it is second to no other paper in the county."

I haven't been able to find a trace of Judge John since he attended a reunion for Umatilla County Pioneers in 1892 - at that time he was living in Weston. I am hoping that there may be death information or an obit for him somewhere in the county newspapers.

I would appreciate any help anyone could provide.
