Between the 1850 census and the 1870 census the family migrated from Marion County, Oregon to Umatilla and then to Union County. It is reported that Charles' mother drowned in the river while the family was going from Umatilla to Union. I can find the father in Union County, but some of the children are in the surrounding counties and I have seen records of a Charles Black owning land in Umatilla, but I do not know if it is the correct Charles Black.
