Classification: Query
Surnames: Wilson, Russell, Booher
Hi Greg:
May was a Russell by marriage, not a Wilson. Thus, the question of your knowledge about a May being in Athena for the wedding of Alice...if it was a newspaper announcement then it is possible that the names were mixed up.
To answer your question about my being related, it is in a round~about way. My great aunt was married to Harvey Booher, who was Elmer's brother.
I don't have a number for the genealogy society but I do know they are around...I saw them at the Pendleton library last Tuesday.
Here's some resources for you:
------------------------------------------------------------
Pendleton Public Library
502 S.W. Dorion Avenue
Pendleton, Oregon 97801
Phone: (541) 966-0380
Umatilla County Oregon Vital Records
Umatilla County Courthouse
216 S.W. 4th
Pendleton, Oregon 9780
Phone: (541) 278-7111
Another place to find Athena information is at the Weston Public Library:
http://www.westonpubliclibrary.com/
The library isn't always open, but they do have a telephone number and an email address. (I was there last Monday and Tuesday and they weren't open either time I was there) But give then a try.
I wish you had posted this two weeks ago...I was at the Athena cemetery last week and looked at every headstone there....but can't remember a May Wilson.
Another thought...did you check in Walla Walla for Alice's death? If she had a lingering illness she may have passed away there...and she would not have an Oregon death certificate. Lots of people in that part of the country went to Walla Walla even though Pendleton was closer, some because of the VA hospital.
I will do some more checking. It sounds like you are doing your footwork!
Have you look through all of the inscriptions for the Athena cemetery for May?
Laura
