HERMISTON - Edith O. Howard DesJardins, 91, of Hermiston died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her assisted living care home in Hermiston. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 22 at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. A private family burial will be held in Munising, Mich.
Mrs. DesJardins was born on April 8, 1916, in Cummins Township, Mich. to Asahel and Myrtle Rymer Howard. She married Truman Edward DesJardins in 1937 in Fairview, Mich., and they lived in Michigan until 1978, when they moved to Hermiston.
She loved to quilt and crochet, winning several awards for her work, and she made quilts, doilies, and tablecloths for all of her family as well as her friends. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in Hermiston.
She is survived by children Alice Baumbach of Appleton, Wis., Edward DesJardins of Hermiston, Norman DesJardins of Gresham, Donna Bawiec of Modesto, Calif., and James DesJardins of Damascus; sisters Iva Webb of Hillman, Mich. and Dorothy Beals of Burton, Mich.; 9 grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and special friends Don and Sharon Skeen of Hermiston.
Mrs. DesJardins was preceded in death by her husband Truman in 1996; sisters Thelma, Marguerite, Leola, and Ruth; brothers Clayton and Asahel; and grandson Douglas DesJardins.
Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
