Since your posting didn't identify the specific information on Rhoda, I had to do some background first. When you post an inquiry, try to post as much as you can on an individual, date of birth, or at least year of birth, place of birth with parents or siblings, etc.

I know you probably have this information, but I didn't. Any competent researcher must have the background to fully identify who they seek.

The 1900 Census for Justice Precinct 1, Wichita, TX
Louis (transcribed as Luis, but written as Louis) N. born Jan 1873 in Tennessee
Rhoda, born Jan 1864, 36, born in Tennessee.
Nellea was born May 1886 in Texas to father born in Mississippi, mother in Missouri
Sallie (as written), August 1899.

The 1910 Census for Pendleton, Umatilla County, owning at 502 Lincoln St.
Louis N Johnson, age 37 (1872/1873), born in Tennessee
Rhoda A, age 48 (1861/1862), born in Missouri to both parents born in Tennessee, 2nd marriage, mother of 4, 4 living
Frank J. Dorsey, 18, born in Texas to father born in Mississippi, stenographer at a railroad office.
Joe H, 16, born in Texas.
Selby Johnson, daughter, age 10, Texas
Leota S. Tucker, Niece, 4, born in Oklahoma
Louisa Norvell, mother-in-law, 78, widow, born in Tennessee, mother of 8, 4 living.

Now, with this basis. I can NOT ASSUME that Louis and Rhoda died, just because they can't be found in the 1920 census. The other "researcher" often makes this assumption and is proven wrong. Until there is EVIDENCE that Louis and Rhoda died, then you keep looking. Louis was only 37 in the 1910 census, Rhoda was only 48; IF the census was accurate. It does "appear" to be.

I did a number of searches looking for ANY Rhoda in the 1920 census, born in either Missouri or Tennessee, with birth plus/minus of 5 years of 1862. I did not find her. But, she could have been mis-transcribed in the census. I've seen this often in the census. I've also seen many, especially farmer/want to be farmer, that took land in Canada. While I don't "guess" this happened, it is one of the possibilities. Yes, Louis could have died, Rhoda deciding after 1917 to be closer to her family in Texas/Tennessee. She could have remarried, even at the old age of 48 to 58. There was an influenza outbreak in 1917 that killed thousands, she could have died. BUT, until she is found, you can NOT assume. Genealogy is to me, a crime scene. You must gather ALL the clues, all the evidence before you can "convict" a person of being a family member, before you can decide in a court of law that a person has died.

The other "researcher" said "I believe the Nellia married in TX." (The correct spelling was "Nellea".) Since she is not found after 1900, it would be just as easy to say that she died. There is no proof to either conjecture. I did also look for any "Nell*" born plus/minus 5 years of 1886 in Texas. While there were too many in the entire USA, I did look in limited areas of Texas, Oregon, Washington. I may have just missed her. But, since "I" can't find her, I could easily take the "easy" out and say she's dead...which I won't.

The other researcher gave a cemetery site:
www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/oregon/umatilla,htm
It doesn't work...at least for me. I found:
http://www.oregongenealogy.com/umatilla/umatilla_county_ceme...
Another:
http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Ecemetery/oregon/umatilla.html
But, looking through cemetery listings are mostly unsuccessful. Most are not transcribed, those that are have many unreadible stones or missing stones. From the above, the potential cemeteries are not transcribed. AND, in many cases, a female is sent back to the old homesite to be rested with her husband, or even former husband.

Yes, I would suggest contact with Blue Mountain: http://www.uci.net/~sandral/
You need someone that actually lives in the area, versus, me, in Puyallup, WA, or the other researcher in.. Wenatchee.

I was a federal agent for 32 years, now doing investigations for the US State Department. I've been doing genealogy for over 20 years at a hard pace, another 15 in just learning. My suggestion, KEEP LOOKING and get the PROOF.
