Does anyone have any information on a David C. Baker (or C. D. Baker) living in Athena, OR in the early 1900's? This man was born in Clarion County, Pennsylvania about 1858. He was definitely living in Athena in 1908 when his brother died (according to his brother's obituary.)

He may have had a son named Lawrence E. Baker, born around 1900 in Oregon. This son was living with some relatives in PA in 1920.

I would appreciate any info that you could share, and would be happy to exchange info on this line of Bakers.

Hi Eric

David C. Baker was living in Athena in 1910. He is listed as age 53, born in PA and divorced. He was working for the Luke Read family. Luke passed away in 1917 and Lulu (his wife) was a widow on the 1920 census living in town with their daughter Jenna. David was not listed with them. David isn't listed in the Athena cemetery either.
Do you have any other information on him? When did his brother pass away, and what was his name? Let me know if you want any additional information.

Laura

Laura,

Thanks for the info. The brother who passed away was William Montgomery Baker of Foxburg, Clarion County, PA, who died September 17, 1908. Both men were sons of David and Mary Baker of Clarion County, PA.

The 1920 census info for David's supposed son Lawrence E. Baker indicates he (the son) was born in Oregon about 1900 and that his mother was also born in Oregon. So I'm guessing that somewhere in the 1900 or 1910 censuses is additional information. Are there any good census indices for Oregon or Umatilla in those years?

Thanks,

--Eric

Hi Eric:
I searched a little bit yesterday but couldn't find a good lead-there are lots of Bakers. I will look again this morning. The problem with the 1900 and 1910 is it is indexed by head of household-and you have to have exact spelling-so if it is indexed wrong or under intitials you have to get it precise or you wont find a match!
I did find another Baker who was born in PA listed on the census-do you know if there were any other relatives out here? I found several David Bakers on the Oregon death index-did he die here? I was wondering how much you knew about him-it seems strange that Lawrence would be sent to PA if his mother was still living and born in Oregon.
I will search some more!

I have hte index for The Ilustrated History of Umatilla and Morro Co 1902. Under Umatilla Bios` there is a William Baker pge 412. I have a few pages copied but not that one. Those bios are pretty good histories of family. wonder what chance there is another William Baker there.

Copy of the book in Lake Oswego Libr. I get there every so often. and could check

Don't know if you are still on these boards, but I think you may be talking about Daniel Clark Baker.

He was my great-grandfather.
