Gibson Dustinn “Dusty” Lee
Gibson, 67, of Logsden,
Ore., was found dead Oct. 9, 2009 in
Polk County after he went missing Oct. 3 while on a hunting trip.
He was born Oct. 24, 1941 to Paul and Ellen
Gibson in
Salem,
Ore. He began his formal education at the Logsden School and in 1961, he graduated from Siletz High School. He then attended George
Fox University in
Newberg for two years.
He returned home from college and started work at the Georgia-Pacific Pulp and Paper
Mill in
Toledo. He had a 36-year career with the mill before retiring.
He lived his entire life in the Siletz River valley. He lived in Siletz until 1978 when he moved to Logsden. The close-knit community of family and friends in the Siletz area was an integral part of his life.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he took any opportunity to instill his love of the sports into his nephew and niece. He was an enthusiastic collector and took pride in his coin collection, which was a lifetime hobby. After retirement he had more time to spend traveling and he enjoyed taking weekend trips to various flea markets and coin shows.
Also known as “Uncle D,” he had a playful and mischievous personality and could cause trouble with the best of them. He had a generous spirit and would not hesitate to help where needed. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, loyalty, and thoughtfulness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ellen
Gibson.
He is survived by his brother,
Wiley Gibson of Siletz; sister-in-law, Amy
Gibson of Siletz; nephew,
Brenton Gibson of Corvallis; niece, Lorissa (Alan) Fujishin of St. Paul, Minn.; and cousin, Gary
Gibson of Philomath.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the big gymnasium at the Siletz School. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
