So...what connection does Wesley O.B. Markell have with the others being searched? Is the Bernard Nelson Markell or Nelson H. Markell have any connection?

Perhaps we should start with Wesley and what you have on this person before looking at others.

Thank you for your help. Since my posting [in 2008] on Nelson Harman Markell, I've found out that he died in Detroit, Michigan in 1956. I'm waiting to find out what information his death record has in it. He didn't have an obituary in the Detroit newspaper. I was hoping his brother Wesley would have been mentioned.

I'm really trying to find out about Wesley O. B. Markell. Even his nephews and nieces never heard of him.

You can view actual Census documents at www.ancestry.com or HeritageQuest. Ancestry is a subscription site but they also have free info. They're running a 14-day free trial now but be sure to cancel on or before day 14 or they will charge you.

HeritageQuest is free in my state in several counties through our local library system. Check with your local library and see if they provide access to the U.S. Censuses.

I think the second Joseph H. Hill on the 1920 Census was a mistake. I think this was actually James Joseph Hill. Censuses aren't always accurate. Census takers were paid by how many names they turned in. Some of them weren't too terribly literate. Also the info provided by family members or neighbors wasn't always accurate.

Genealogy is a fascinating and never-ending hobby. You'll discover your ancestors migration path across the U.S., who fought in which war, etc. Consider joining your local genealogy society. Take classes. Sometimes offered at your local college or by the local genealogy society. They are held on a local, state and national level.

I'll go back and send the actual documents to you.
Judy,

Thank you for your effort and yes I am interested. I'm sort of new to all of this. Are you able to see a copy of the census? My grand father was James Joseph Hill so I wonder if the Joseph you mentioned below was his middle name? Everything about the William would seem to fit, but the sister was Iris. them moving to seattle would make sense since this is where Almeda, James's wife. It all gets so confusing!! I will check out the raogk and see what pans out there. again, thank you very much, if you are able to download those doc's I would appreciate a copy.

Both are buried in Mountain view Cemetery in Jackson County.
If Nora's dates are correct, she would have 102 years old when she died.
Are there obituaries, news articles, headstone photos for William and Nora?
I would like any information I can get.
Thanks

Would like to find out more about Isaac Ambrose Bradley who lived in Jackson CO., during the 1900 census. Apparently he was a long time resident of Jackson Co. Might there be a pioneer biography in existance? Supposedly he died about 1902. He married Mary C. Hull 1 Aug 1886 in Jackson Co. I suspect this may have been Ida Mary Hull. Mrs Ida Bradley married James D. Lawrence about 1905. This would have been after the death of Isaac. I am trying to find out if Mary and Ida are the same or different persons.

Shirley Karle..........manpapa@cwnet.com

I find family trees for a James Dunlap born about 1901 in West Virginia; one in North Carolina; one about 1901 in Walker Texas; and one 30 Sep 1901 in Tennessee. None in the criteria you set.

I checked the Jackson County Recorder online records and found no recorded documents in their names.
--Records show Carrie had lived at 750 Spring St, #204, Medford, OR. Since this is probably an apartment, there would not be any recorded documents for residence.

James Dunlap, SSN 532-07-9841, issued in Washington Stated Before 1951.
Carrie Dunlap, SSN 533-05-6907, issued WA before 1951.
--You can order their original application for those numbers. The Form, SS-5, has their name, where living, parents name and other information. Go to: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/fto_ssdisearch.html?Wel...
Enter their name, go to "Write It". Each costs $27.00 for an exact image. Or, for just a computer print out of the information, $16.00.

Ron Bestrom

NOTE:

The email address of the person having the family tree will NOT work just by clicking on it. If you click on it, there is an anti-spam guard built into the system. You will have to type it out.

The Oregon State Archives:
http://genealogy.state.or.us/
has a record for "Bradley, Isaac" (Enter as such). This is 1902 Estate Record. Contact this site for copy of the record. I don't know what this record would contain.
has a record for Ida McCormick Bradley

I find a family tree owned by "DeWanna62" on Ancestry.com
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?pid=-1461193234&amp...=
If you have a subscription to Ancestry, you can review it. If not, try your local library, many offer access through your library card. Dewanna is in Oregon, email gisami@yahoo.com . The tree holds a picture of Isaac.
She has Isaac born Feb 1851 in Illinois, died March 1902 at Eagle Point, Jackson Co. Marriage to Ida May Hull, born about 1869, died 9 Sep 1937 in Olene, Klamath Co, OR. She was also married to a James D. Lawrence, born 1873. Isaac was also married to Mary C. Hull about 1887. With Mary they had two daughters and four sons. This family tree has a photo of Charles Edward Bradley, 1889-1956.

The 1900 census (image) for Big Butte, Jackson County
Isaac born Feb 1851 in Illinois, a farmer
Mary C. (This is a "C" as written the same as other "C's" on the page, if it were an "I", then I could see a potential same person issue between Ida May Hull and Mary C. Hull). Mary born Feb 1868 in Oregon. They were married 13 years (1886/1887, census enumerated June 7th). So, if Isaac was married to an Ida May, it would have "probably" have been prior. From the above family tree, Ida was from California and doesn't appear to have left California until after the 1920 Census, unless between census' she moved back and forth. She and James Lawrence had a son John, born 1907 in Oregon. Neither woman's parents are identified.

The 1900 Census shows Isaac as a farmer. The Bureau of Land Management Land Patent records (Homestead Act)
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
shows Isaac A. Bradley obtaining 160 acres of land on 5/16/1894 in Jackson County. This land was located on three parcels:
Township 34-South, Range 1-East,
1. Section 22, the East half of the NE corner.
2. Section 22, the NE portion of the SE corner.
3. Section 23, the SW portion of the NW corner.
(The Homestead Act:
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AH-Homestead.html )

Does that tell you anything? To find this land:

Now go to http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html
Change the State to Oregon, input Township 34 and South; Range 1 and East, and Section 22.
In this next window, you'll see some basic information about the land. Note the closest places are:
1. the mouth of McNeil Creek 1710 meters.
2. the mouth of Clark Creek, 1787 meters.
3. the mouth of Quartz Creek, 1827 meters.
4. the mouth of Neil Creek, 1833 meters.
Now click on "Switch to TerraServer" about middle of the window.

Now, in this new window, click on the largest blue block for size, and click on Topo Map, both just above the picture.

In this new window, you'll see a topographic map. It has a number of creeks identified in blue (turquoise if you want). The map is divided into red squares. These are Sections. Each Section contains 640 acres. You can find McNeil Creek and Neil Creek near the center, toward the bottom. You'll see Butte Creek about the middle.

Now, find where the Neil Creek and McNeil Creek meet. Then go into the red square just above that. At that top of that red square, you'll see where these now joined creeks, meet with Big Butte Creek.

Put your cursor of your mouse in THAT red square, and left click. In the next map, find the same square and left click again.

In this next map, you'll see where the McNeil Creek meets the Big Butte Creek just at the top of that red square. This square now has a red 23 in the middle of it. This is section 23. Section 22 is just to the left.

From above, his land was:
1. Section 22, the East half of the NE corner.
--Look at the red square for section 22. Divide it into quarters (half horizontally and half vertically. Divide the top right quarter into half vertically. His land was in that area, the east half of this NE corner, a total of 80 acres.
2. Section 22, the NE portion of the SE corner.
--Divide the section again in quarters. Now look at the bottom right corner. Divide that corner into quarters. He had the top right portion of that corner, a total of 40 acres.
3. Section 23, the SW portion of the NW corner.
--Now in Section 23, divide it into quarters. In the top left corner, divide it into quarters. He had the bottom left portion of that quarter, a total of 40 acres. Now together add to his 160 acres.
To access his land, you can see some old dirt roads, faint double dash lines in both section 22 and 23. His address in the 1900 Census was "Big Butte", so he lived here then. There are some paved roads that lead to those old dirt roads. If I had to "Guess", they went to Eagle Point or White City for supplies, north on route 62, the Crater Lake Highway. Then just past the route 234, there is a road to the right going up to the Big Butte area. It starts out as the Butte Falls Highway, then becomes the Butte Falls Road. They then would go up the Crawford Road. This road continues north up to McLeod, again meeting the Crater Lake Highway. McLeod is east of Trail. To better see this area, go to www.mapquest.com and enter McLeod, Oregon. Follow the Crawford Road north (zoom in on the map to the 4th blue rectangle. You will see "Blm 34-le-15.1". This is a BLM road. You'll see two dirt roads to the right. The top one does go very close to his property.

Ron Bestrom

I started my research in the 1930 Census:
The 1930 Census for Burns, Harney County, Oregon
William J. Hodgson, age 56, born in North Carolina to both parents born in NC., laborer in Road Construction
Nora A, age 42, born in Texas to father born in Texas, mother in Missouri, practical Nurse in Homes (private)
Otis McDonald, Step-son (to William), age 24, born in Oregon, divorced
Donald, Step-son, age 13, born in Oregon, Single
--For this census, she would have been born 1887/1888.
--Your info shows they weren't married until 1931.
--This "Donald" is "probably" the D.E. McDonald of Ashland?

I then started looking into the 1920 and found him in Idaho; but deleted that information after finding your tree info. When you post, post the links to your family tree's, that way it gives a researcher info on what you already know and gives information on where to look. AND, keeps those who can't find anything from posting they can't find anything.

A William Hodgson was issued 320 acres of land in Jefferson County, OR, 1918. It was located in Range 15-E, Township 11-S, Section's 7 SE, and Section 18, the West half of the East half.
--There is NO PROOF this is the correct person. Based on your LAST family tree (#4 below), it probably isn't the correct person as yours was in Idaho at the time.

Other family trees posted:
1. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/12475257/person/-251703760?ss...=
2. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/12475740/person/-251556557?ss...=
3. Yours...but data does not match what information is now posted:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/12478377/person/-251069009
4. Also yours
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/12450799/person/-257623628?ss...=
The first two also might be yours.
--The problem of posting family trees, if someone posts one that has wrong information, someone else will take that information and put it in their tree, then post it... it continues until nothing on the Internet is usable. Ancestry.com uses the "Merge" method for their "One World Tree". I've found the same person being the father, grandfather, ggrandfather and gggrandfather of himself.

Thank you for the guidance in finding the land for Isaac. I do know that Ida had family in Butte Falls. I am still trying to decipher whether Mary C. and Ida are one and the same. The 1900 census has Mary C. as being born in Feb 1868. When I received the death certificate for Ida she was also born in Feb 1868. Could you tell me where Catholic church records would be kept for that area?

Thank you for your assistance.....

The Freeland family was very religious and had been Quaker for generations in 1600s and 1700s, but were probably not by the time they moved to Oregon. I have no record of Benjamin Richardson Freeland being a minister, but not inconsistent with their religiosity. A marriage at age 29 is reasonable. The first marriage I have record is July 12, 1866 in Wilber, Douglas Co., OR to Sarah Belle Kuykendall.

Hi Barbara,
I'm sorry to tell you that I don't have an answer for you. The name sounds very very familiar but I can't locate the name in my database for my genealogy. My computer crashed a year ago and I lost a lot of information. I have checked a few places for information and no luck. I will keep looking and see what I can find. If I come across something, I will let you know. My main family research names are Crouch, Long, Aleshire, Wall, Ballou, Cardwell, Byrne, Lewis. If any of the these ring a bell, I would love to know more about your family.

He appeared to have a heart attack & fell to the ground out near the garden area, or that was what we were told. His funeral will be tomorrow at the Eagle Creek Militery cemetery with a militery funeral. Not sure of the time. Yes we also enjoyed meeting Carl & Sherry. We have several lovely intargia wood pieces that Carl made for us, over the years. Take care. linda Toftner

There is a volunteer who does this at Random Acts Genealogical Kindness, www.raogk.org, read instructions, choose Oregon, choose Jackson Co. Look for Jean.

If that doesn't work out, you can contact the Oregon Library System, www.oregonlibraries.net/ and ask them which Library provides an obituary service.
