DOWNS FOUDRAY, one of the well known pioneers of Southern
Oregon and prominent in Democratic politics in
Jackson County for many years, died at his home in
Phoenix this morning in his 83rd year. The deceased was a member of the Legislature from this county in 1866, and also served two terms as county
Clerk in the ‘70s. While serving as
Deputy Sheriff he went to Salt lake and brought back Sam May, defaulting State Treasurer of
Oregon many years ago. He is survived by a wife, but no children. The funeral takes place Saturday.
