Surnames: PIERCE, PEARCE, COX
Looking for James PIERCE/PEARCE or other variations b. Feb12 or Feb 14, 1812 or 1814 in North Carolina.
Married who? and where?(middle name may have been Valentine). They had five children, apparentely only 3
lived to adulthood. Mary b. abt.1845 married William Waters COX in 1863 in The Dalles, Oregon. Mathilda b.
1850 and the fifth daughter. Andrew Jackson PIERCE, my great-grandfather born 1854, Harrison co.,Iowa. James
moved his family to the Dalles, OR in 1863. From there he went to Canyon City, OR where he lived to the late 90s.
James and spouse divorced (where?) No mention of her name has ever been found, though she apparentely stayed in Oregon and is said to have remarried and raised a large family. James was a circuit riding preacher out of The Dalles, OR. He was said to have been instrumental in starting the first Sunday School in Canyon City. I have records of his purchasing property and school buildings that were probably donated to the church. I cannot find any record of him, his parents or siblings. ANY........help would be appreciated.
Thank You, Vivian Vancil Camenzind

According 1820 census, James Valentine Pierce was born in Stokes County, North Carolina in February 1812. His parents were also born in North Carolina.

There is a lot of information in the book "The History of Grant County, Oregon - 1862 - 1983"
