Becky: Thanks much for the reply. However, the Stephen Hoyt Post can't be the Stephen Post I'm looking for. "My" Stephen would have gone from Springfield Illinois, with James Dillard Post, (his cousin) to the area of California that borders Oregon; and in fact they were in Oregon. They left Illinois in summer 1861. A brother William C. Post died in Oregon in a Civil War home for wounded war vets, and William and Katy's descendents are still in Oregon. James D. Post was my great grandfather, and is buried in Selma, CA beside his wife Sarah Stanley Post. I suspect the Post line that you mention goes back to my ancestor, Capt Adrian Post, who landed in New York, Dec 1650. It is most likely a collateral line.
