Have census records and marriage info showing them marrying in 1907. Trying to determine which Mary Stewart she was.
May have been Mary Stewart in Choctaw rolls, who lived with sister Louisa and brother in law Allen H. Collins in 1900 census. Not sure. Thanks, Tom

I'm hunting for info on Mike Z. Davis, b. 1862 to William R.W. DAVIS and Emma Caroline MILLER. He married Alice WALDEN. Family says he was at least 1/4 Indian(maybe more) from his mom, Emma MILLER. It is believed he was Chocktaw (although I've heard Cherokee as well). Any help on verifying this or where to look for verification would be greatly appreciated. His son, Tomie DAVIS, my grandfather, said he was contacted by the state of Oklahoma in in the early 1940's about land but never followed through on it.
I can be reached at mic_n_min_4@yahoo.com.
Tamy Hall

I am looking for land information for Fontanelle P. (aka Font,Faunt, Funtanell) Brown who moved to OK before his death in 1896, (He died 19 Mar 1896 in Arapaho, OK.) I am mainly interested in the land record and where he's buried, if available.

This quote was found in a booklet THE HISTORY OF THE BAXTER FAMILY IN DEKALB COUNTY, ALABAMA.
Referring to Fontanelle P. Brown's family:
"This entire family moved to Mount Pleasant in Titus County, Texas.
Dolly and Font later moved into the Indian territory as Font claimed his share of land there, since he was one-half Cherokee Indian. No further records are available of this family." *I suspect there are further records available at Tullequah in Indian records.*

This family started out in DeKalb, AL, went to TX, then OK. Font's mother is said to be Luquilla, a full blood Cherokee, but I've been unable to find her in any records except the above booklet and Mr. Baxter's source appeared to be interviews of the elders in the family who reported her name by verbal tradition.

Luquilla was married to John L. A. (Augustus, "Guss") Brown of Jackson Co., AL before it was a county (1836) and was still part of the Cherokee Nation.
Thomas Main and his family were living in No Man's Land by Dec. 1886. His address was P.O., Benton, Neutral Strip. Thomas and his son, William (Willie) were farmers and lived there until 1888/1889 when Thomas moved to Canadian County, OK. Family tradition tells that Willie died sometime during those years, killed while trying to protect his land.

A meeting was held in Beaver City on 26 Oct 1886 which organized a "Claimants Board" to protect land claims. In Nov. another meeting was held for the purpose of manufacturing "quit claim" deeds for those land claims.

1. Does anyone know where could these land claims be found?

2. Where might Willie Main be buried if he died in the Town of Benton?
My grandfather was shot and killed, over land that his family had settled on, by a rancher called King Penny. Widow's pension records say his name was "Steven Penny". I have tried to find out more about this story but have not found anything. David T. Duvall was shot on Dec 27, 1887 by Steven Penny or "King" Penny. His widow, Sophronia Feazell Duvall, and children were forced to pack their wagon and leave immediately and then the house was burned behind them. The pension records mention a man who prepared the body for burial but I do not know where he was buried. I also wanted to find out about Steven Penny. Supposedly he was caught and hanged 15 years later for the murder but I haven't found anything about that either.

Isaac S. Killian -- Where is his grave?

The year is 1906 - February, on or after the 8th day...
Isaac S. "Ike" Killian dies from pneumonia.

Isaac and his wife Lucy (Bradshaw) Killian had purchased 160 acres in No Man's Land. The family had not been on their land a month or so before the death of Isaac. Lucy dies within 10 days of Isaac's death from pneumonia.

Isaac has KILLIAN family in Comanche County, Oklahoma. Lucy has BRADSHAW family in Greer County, Oklahoma.

Can not find the graves of either ancestor... A one line notation on a website indicates David Killian, Isaac's brother, from Comanche County was summoned to the Panhandle... A few lines from a letter indicate Lucy and the children boarded a train heading back to Greer County - the train makes it to Groom, Texas. Lucy and one of her five children aboard the train are sick. The family is removed from the train. There is no hospital, Lucy gives birth to a premature baby at the local hotel. Lucy's older brother is sent from Greer County to Groom to remain with Lucy. The five children are taken by surrey to the maternal grandparents. Lucy dies in Groom, Texas. Lucy's brother then brings the infant to the maternal grandparents in Greer County.

Where is Isaac S. Killian buried?
There is no definate indication where he was buried...

I have two legal descriptions of where his land was located:
1) ... a homestead claim in now what is Texas Co., Okla., being the NE 1/4 Sec. 29, Tp. I North, R 13 E.
This is the description in a 1910-Petition for Appointment of Guardian - recorded in Greer County, Oklahoma.
2) ... NORTHEAST QUARTER OF SECTION TWENTY-NINE IN TOWNSHIP ONL NORTH OF RANGE THIRTEEN LAST OF THE CIMARRON MERIDIAN, OKLAHOMA, CONTAINING ONE HUNDRED SIXTY ACRES.
As recorded in Land Patent Details, from the Woodward Land Office in a Title Transfer dated 1/11/1912.

Is the above descriptions located in PRESENT DAY Cimarron County? PRESENT DAY Texas County? And where can I find a news article, doctor records, anything that would absolutely confirm or merely indicate where Isaac was buried?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Julia
julia@netride.net

I am trying to locate the gravesite of Dr. Wm. McKay Dougan. Newspaper articles show that he was buried in Texhoma after dying Sept.8, 1908 in Golf, OK. He is not listed in the inventory of gravesites for the Texhoma cemetery but we were informed that there is a gravesite on private property, surrounded by iron stakes, somewhere near the TX/OK border. However, I have no directions to go to this site, if it indeed still exists.
I would like to find the location; if anyone can direct me, please e-mail me at coodi@ttc-cmc.net.
Hello, we may be kin. My ancestor, Robert Seymour had in-laws name Luper/Looper in the Shiloh (now Springdale) Arkansas Area. I have been told some of the Lupers went to the Oregon area on a wagon train. There's an inscription in Rbt's Family Bible that says something about this being a (last?) sermon preached by Gilber Luper. (if I remember right). I will look at it tonight at home [this is my work email] and scan the page and bring it tomorrow. I know there are Luper/Loopers on the census for that area and I think on the church rolls of the same church that Robert and his wife attended in Shiloh. Two of his wives were sisters, surname: Ingram.

I'm a member of the Choctaw tribe of Oklahoma, but I don't know of any chiefs with that name. Was there another reason ? I'm certainly not being critical, I learned some things from this information, I would just like to know... Thanks James

No, my great grandfather, born in Putnam County, OH, had four brothers (Joseph, James, Samuel, and Daniel Roy). He lived in Beaver Territory, OK, but for a few years (1885-1889).

Ready or Reedy people

My great-great grandfather, Levi Ready (sometimes Reedy)
left Missouri about 1875. Never to be heard from again, so the story goes. He left behind a wife and 3 small children.
He always seemed to have problems managing his money and he liked to gamble. In 1871 he was accused of killing his brother-in-law, who wasn't married and had no children, and was fairly well-off, for these parts anyway. His wife was the only sibling, so she would inherit. He was acquitted, but he disappeared 4 or 5 years later. He was only 25. In trying to find him, I have came across a few Levi Ready records, most of which turned out to be a first cousin of his that was also named Levi. But there is a Levi Ready in the 1910 census of Noble OK, that could possibly be my grandfather. I have confirmed that it isn't the cousin. I contacted the Noble OK historical society and they found nothing on him.
He would have been hiding out, more than likely, and the only thing I can think to do is post messages in hopes that someone with knowledge of the the OK territory and its inhabitants might know something.

To Sandy Matthews: So happy to hear from you. And I will be happy to exchange any information that I have. What were the dates you have on James. I show him born in Carthage, Mo in 1841. Does this fit your James. I do hope so. I am so eager to learn more on this man. Thank you
