My daughter's grandfather was Harold Hix Freeman. I believe a member of her family did some research on his background and linked him to Quannah Parker. He was supposedly 1/4 Comanche. Could anyone verify or lead me where I can get more information.

Thank you,

Barbara

I just received the DNA info and confirms the Native American ancestry. I found that my great grandmother was a lady named syliva born 1885 in texas in Smith County. She appeared in the 1910 census roles but no reference to her after that. My grandmother was in the 1910 census in Lawton, Comanche county. My mother was born in Lone Wolf oklahoma. Her name was Hazel Crow. My grandmother told me that they live on a big farm near Lone Wolf.

My grandmother would never talk about her mother. No one in the family who knew anything would talk. I was told that I am Kiowa, I don't know. I have a picture of my grandmother and mother but none of my greatgrand mother.

If anyone has any info, it would be really nice to know who I am.

thanks

Thank you for your quick reply. I am thankful to finally know that the Mobley's claimed CHEROKEE through the Mobley line. Alice C Stephens (Josiah's Second wife)can be found on the 1880 census for McLennan county. She is listed as "Ailsey" She was married to Jonathon Stephens, but we think her maiden name was Oursborne. She died in Oklahoma, but I know very little about her. Do you have anything? They supposedly lived near me(Coincidentally) on Cowhouse creek. Jonathon Died near Llano TX and is buried in an unmarked grave...? Alice C Mobley is listed in Ft. Cobb with her Stepson Alexander (Albert) Mobley. I am very thankful to have made contact with you. If you have any information about the Mobley line, please let me know. I am also interested in the Davis line as it seems there was some connection with two hatchets....?

Matthew,
I know Nathen Mobley was a brother to my Josiah, they were just two... of many children(11) of James & Elizabeth (Clendenning/Clendein Moberly/Mobley of Indiana.
Originally from Rock Castle Co. KY, (says other researchers) & my Mobley family... said they "FIRST" came from Ogle Thrope Colony, Georgia.?????? Verbal....no documentation of that.
I have "semi" documentation info on my Mobleys.
I also know that my Mobley's claimed CHEROKEE blood through their MOBLEY ancestors & My Mary Davis, daughter of Tim Davis (married to William Samuel) (WS) Mobley, clamied KIOWA..........(But My Mary Davis would be No relation to your Nathan.) However.... I have found out much more info about her line.... since I last posted on this site too.
Josiah's first wife & mother of his children was, Rebecca Mary Monroe Ealy & she died in Trvais Co TX.
My gg grandmother was Ella Gumalty/Qumalty/Komalty, born1840 in TX. She married T.M.Davis. Her daughter, Mary E. Davis born 1877 in TX, married William S. Mobley. They settled at the foot of Saddle Mountain around1896. Later moving to Caddo Co.where Mary died 1918 and was buried in Ft.Cobb. The family had 160 acres, just east of Ft. Cobb called Mobley Corners. The family claimed Cherokee blood. But, Gumalty/Qumalty/Komalty is Kiowa. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you. Carole Mobley

My GGGGrandfather is Nathan Mobley. Josiah Mobley's Brother who later married into my line.(no kids) Josiah(Williamson county TX) is William S Mobley's father. Josiah and Wife, Alice C. Stephens, moved to Ft. Cobb and then Josiah died. My GGGrandmother always said her grandmother was cherokee. That could have been Nathan, his wife, or both.....? Is it that Mary Davis is Kiowa ans Mobley's are cherokee hence the discrepency? Do you know if the mobleys were also Native American? Any info is helpful.

Matthew Wells

According to a cousin, her grandfather told her that his wife was the granddaughter of Cochise. It would seem that Nahche, Cochise's son, was out riding a horse, but the horse went "crazy" and my great-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Miller, helped to save young Nahche and returned him to Cochise. In return, Cochise gave Miller one of his young daughters to marry. Eventually, Miller and Cochise's daughter had two children before she died after giving birth to my great-grandmother. Anyone even HEAR of Cochise having a daughter? Want to either disprove or prove this "family legend".

Thank you for the reply. Since my original post I have met the owners of the land on which the mission stands. I have family in Fletcher and the surrounding area. My dad's family has been in the area since the 1892. I found some information on the mission at the new history center in OK City across from the capital building. Do you live in the area? I am trying to find out who cares for the cemetery and who might have the records.

I am looking for any information about the Cache Creek Indian Mission located SW of Apache, OK. It was formed in 1889 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church. The missionary from at least 1899 to 1920 was William Carithers. The mission started the Mission Cemetery located aroung the corner from the mission. It has a white stone arch which says "Comanche Indian Cemetery 1934" on the arch. My interest in the mission and the cemetery stems from my Gr.Gr. Grandmother, Jane Hazelwood and Gr. Grandfather, Pat Maguire who were buried in the Indian cemetery in 1906 and 1907 althought they were not Indian. The story I have is that Jane was involved with the Mission helping the Indian children. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am looking for any relations to a Reyes Torres born in Sweetwater TX late 1800's. He was part of the Kiowa Apache comanche relocation program of that time. Receiving land grants in that area. One of the founding Kiowa of that area yet no mention of them except for some historical accounts of that city! I know that there several relatives in that area currently due to relatives accounts. Last known contact 1983 when they came to Los Angeles for my Grandmother Refugia(Ruth) Torres funeral. There's alot of offspring from my Great Grandfather. Some in Witchita Ks, Los Angeles, Oakland....not to mention Sweetwater TX and El Paso. Any info would be great.

I am trying to find more information about him and the family and what tribe he was from. His father was Hayden Lane. Jojo was married to Irene Pahcoddy at time of death. Her parents are also buried in this cemetery. His step sister is Marie Lane Realrider who died 5-10-2007 was married to Austin Realrider. His headstone says he was a father and a grandfather and I would like to connect with these people. I visited the cemetery this summer but was unable to do any other research at that time.
LindaGrindel10:

Several points:

On a personal (to me) matter, you wrote:

"On the allotment list of 1879-1901..."

There is no "allotment list of 1879-1901." What you have viewed on-line is a compilation *I* made of the census lists, 1879-1899, and the allotments of 1901, and posted on my web site at Indiana.edu. It has been cross-posted and cross-referenced so many times that the basic credit line to me has been lost (not that I get anything out of it).

Now, to your question:
"On the allotment list of 1879-1901 I found my great grandmother Petra Senoya. ... With Aldove their is a list of three bands he followed: Esananaka, Pahoddy, Carpio.

Senoya was apparently the same as "Aldava." I base that on the same relative positions of "Senoya", ages, sex, etc., on the 1879 and 1880 censuses, and "Aldava" on the 1883 and following censuses. Those censuses are at the Oklahoma Historical Society, microfilm roll KA 1/1a).

Yes Senoya/Aldava was the father.

Petra/Maud Senoya/Aldava was born in 1890; I have her on the 92, 95, 01 census, 01 allotment list, 04, and 05 census.

Esananaka was the son of Paruasemena,'Ten Bears'. When Ten Bears died in 1872, his local group, the Ketahto 'Don't Wear Shoes' split into three: two of his sons, Esananaka and Hitetetsi 'Little Crow', and his grandson, Cheevers. Esananaka and Little Crow died soon thereafter and their people scattered. Many, but not all of Esananaka's people went to his nephew-in-law, Attocknie (married Querherbitty, sis of Cheevers, gd of Ten Bears).

Senoya is listed with Esananaka in 1879 and 1880, with Pahcoddy in 1883, and with Carpio in 1889.

"Bands" had a diminishing role on the reservation as the agents attempted to focus more on individual families. Thus after 1889, the agency censuses did not explicitly list people by "bands" although they are often in the same order as on the earlier "band" lists

I do not have my documents with me here in Lawton (I am spending three weeks here for Homecoming, research, and visiting) so I cannot answer further.

Thomas W. Kavanagh, PhD
Esimotsotaivo

Im very new to all this but I need answers and this is a shot in the dark. Have you ever heard that sitting bull changed his name to James Henry Hill at any point in his life? This is a story passed down in my family but information is scarce and the family doesn't talk much. Any help would be wonderful. Supposedly he is my great-great-great grandfather. Looking like that is a lot of peoples story though. Anyways...any help would be great. Thanks so much!

Dear Thomas Kavanagh:

You were so kind in answering a question I had back on Ancestry July 13, 2007 about my Comanche family Senoya. I'm still plugging away. I finally found a live person at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Anadarko to help look up where my grandmother is buried (she died in 1945 at the Lawton Indian Hospital).

I hope I am not intruding by asking this question. My Great Great Grandmother was Louise (or Louisa) Matilda. Her husband is listed as Aldava or Senoya. My question is it possible that the name Louise is a white name and she is a victim of the kidnapping the Comanche's did back in the day? My mother remembers a story of a family member being kidnapped, I cannot help but think this may be the relative. I also wonder if she is German. I doubt I could ever truly find the answer to that question but if you think that the name stands out - I would appreciate your thoughts. I have another family witness who says she saw loads of photos from the "Aldava or Senoya" family with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Thanks so much - I don't bug much - I'll leave you alone after this.

Respectfully yours,

Linda Grindel (ancestry member LindaGrindel10)

This is so exciting - we are relatives! Sophia had three children you must be one of them or the mother of the children of one of the sons. I know there was a son around, I am hoping you are him. Her daughter lives in Hawaii, wife of a very famous movie producer (Sony Productions). The son I know had photos from his mother.

My mother Evelyn (Sophia's niece) said that Sophia was so beautiful. Tall and so lovely. Very kind woman. Isn't it tragic how Petra dies very young, Raymundo her son dies of TB, Cecelia dies at childbirth and Sophia dies of cancer.

Can you write me please so we can discuss more. Perhaps exchange photos? You can write to Grindel9103@comcast.net.

Your are so welcome and thank you dear cousin,

Linda Grindel

On the allotment list of 1879-1901 I found my great grandmother Petra Senoya. Other names are listed with her:
Alice, Armstrong/James, George Caervera, Jacob, Louise/Matila, Petra/Maud, Thomas, Aldava (or Aldove). With Aldove their is a list of three bands he followed:
Esananaka, Pahoddy, Carpio.

I found one listing on rootsweb with Esananaka which showed Greymountain. Greymountains daughter Juanita married my grandfather Amador Torralba after Petras death (obviously at a young age).

Anyone know the direction I go to find specifics of the relations of the people on this allotment list? For instance was Aldove the father and the rest his family?

Does anyone know where I can find out about the name of those three specific bands?

Thanks so much for your help.

Linda Durham-Grindel

The mission you speak of still stands and is located 4 miles west of Apache and about 1 1/2 miles south of state highway 19. The cemetery is just north of the mission and a couple of hundred yards to the east on the north side of the road with the arch still standing; and the cemetery is still being used today. There is no online data of the people buried in this cemetery that I know of, I have searched this as I have been researching my family history. However; the Lawton public library does have a book in the genealoy section that contains the information of the markers in that cemetery.

There is another cemetery named Cache Creek that is located on the same sw quarter section of the KCA Cache Creek cemetery. Now this cemetery does have a database online and can be found through OkGenWeb genealogy site in Caddo county. If you do not find who you are looking for you will have to make a trip to the Lawton library.

You are correct about the Carithers being involved with the mission, and I'm pretty sure that he was a minister and that he preformed the marriage ceramonies for some of my ancestors.

I know that this is an old posting and hope that you still check it from time to time.

Good luck

Keith

Yes I do live in the area, within 6 miles of both, the mission and the cemetery and have many relatives laying below the head stones. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the Comanche Nation has taken it upon themselves the responsibility of caring for the up keep of the grounds. If they are I do not know if they are cataloging any data as far as new burials. One phone number 580-595-3300, (one of many Comanche Nations phone numbers) might be of some help as far as inquires go for any info that I just mentioned. They do have many other numbers listed in the Lawton area phone book.

As far as old cemetery records read my first reply again, I explained that in it. The book of records that I've previously mentioned within it may also be at the history center in OKC. I do know that they have a website, but I do not know if they have their library data base available online or not, you'll just have to check it out. Again, good luck.

Kathy,

None of those names ring a bell in the history that I've got. I'm to the point that I think the stories handed down to my generation were false or wishful thinking.

Thank you for sending me an email. If I run across any of these names, I'll let you know.

Thanks again,

Collette Wilkes

I'm searching for information on my Comanche grandfather. I'm told he was a medicine man and as far as I know, died in 1924/25 in Kansas or Oklahoma. I was also told that he was married to a Choctaw woman. The had a daughter who would be my paternal grandmother.

Thanks for any guidance.

I was told that my great grandmother was Comanche-she was supposedly stolen in a raid by some settlers in a little town named Harkeyville in Texas in the late 1800's-they named her Truelove and she married my great grandfather. I don't know if anyone can help me but would appreciate any information. Thank you, KMogg
