If you receive this info twice, I apologize. My husband's family's property 160 acres, just east of Ft. Cobb, Ok, called
Mobley Corners, butted up to the Two Hatchets property. They were good friends and neighbors. The
Mobley children called Mr. & Mrs. Two Hatchets, Grandpa and Grandma. I don't know if there was blood relation or not. But they were really close. My husband's aunt Milred Sue (Ann)
Mobley Campbell, (recently deceased) told us this story in Jan.2000. She married Ed
Campbell, son of Doctor George
Campbell of Anadarko, OK. First doctor to be paid by the Fed. Gov. to doctor the Kiowa. She said when she was a child, she remembered Old Doc. Campbell being called to the Two Hatchets home, east of Ft.Cobb. When he arrived, Grandma Two Hatchets was out in the back yard in the family teepee lodge, dressed in regalia and singing in her native language. He asked, "Whats she doing out there in that teepee?" The family explained to him, that she knew she was gravely ill, and she was singing her death song. He said, "Let's get her in here, so I can examine her." After a while everyone convinced her to come inside. With help she was placed on the kitchen table. By the light of oil lamps she was examined. Doc. Campbell discovered Mrs. Two Hatchets had a very diseased breast, when he lifted her breast, he could see maggots working in the flesh. he quickly told the family it would have to be removed. By oil lamp lighting, that evening so long ago, a masectomy was performed. Doc. Campbell said the maggots had helped save her life, by eating away the rotted flesh. Aunt Mildred said that Grandma Two Hatchets lived a long time after that surgery. All I know is the Mobleys and the Two Hatchets were really close. My husbands Great Great Grandmother was Ella Komalty, Kiowa. She married T.M. Davis in
Texas. Their daugter Mary E. Davis married W.S. Mobley. They first settled at the foot of Saddle Mountain, later moving to Ft. Cobb,
Caddo County,
Oklahoma. I hope info helps in your search.
