We are trying to fin out were Emma and David passed away. They were both born in TN. And From what i can find they were marriedn in missouri in 1875 and I have found them both on the census there in 1880. And I have found them on the I think it was 1900 census living in indian territiry in oklahoma. If anymore could help me it would be very greatly appreciated as I am kinda at a dead end and don't know where to go from here. Thank you in advance.
Damian Porter

I am trying to determine which of my relatives is of creek hertiage. I have tried several different creek census. I know that its either James D Shipp or Eliza Newell. They were married in 1865 in Monroe County Alabama. Does anyone have any ideas on where I can search? I have also tried different genealogy sites such as rootsweb, the olive tree, and Cyndi's list. Any advice is welcome.
Thank you.

I met someone yesterday who is helping to archive old papers in a courthouse in Talladega, Alabama. She mentioned coming across some Creek Indian papers. I asked her to email the information so that I could pass this on to anyone who might be related and searching for this information. If this information pertains to you, please let me know and I will put you in contact with her.
Here is her email message to me:

"I had previously copied this information on the estates of three Creek Indians and had it in my files at home:

Estate of WOX E YO HO LA (or lo) (a Creek Indian), administrator, Malcolm McKinnon, appointed 9 April 1847. I found him as head of a family in Hatchett Creek Town on the 1832 Creek Indian census.

Estate of TO YOL KIE (a Creek Indian), administrator, William Hogan, appointed 20 Feb 1837.

Bond and Deed for the lands near Mardisville, AL. The land of ALBETTO HADJO was sold to Judge Tarrant and filed on 20 May 1834. I found him as head of a family in Talladega Town on the 1832 Creek Indian census.

The spelling of the Indian names is subject to the interpretation of the person doing the recording. Most spelled it as it sounded to them.

There are probably two or three other Indian estates that we have found in the files and as I enter them in the computer I'll make note to send you the information."

Hello to all my Creek Nation brothers and sisters. Let me just first explain that I am a mix blood. My father is from the Upper Creek Family and my mother is of unknown Cherokee ancestory. I was raised to try to "act white" try to "talk white" and whatever I do don't mention my hunting tendacies. I just recently graduated Auburn University w/ a four year degree in Criminology. I have been trying for over 6 years now to become employed with the Alabama Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources. This dept is a prime example of "good ole white boy jim crow still exists" mentality. The men in this dept have become scared of me for several reasons. The primary reasons are because I am a female, a hunter, a disabled (but skilled) individual, and finally a pissed off mix blood. A while back my recruiter asked me what was my race? I said white ( that's the best answer in Alabama ) I could tell he expected white and something else. When I told him I was also indian he immediantly asked me if I had a IBA number. I told him no of course not remember our history? Well then I was upset. He told me had I had a IBA number then the dept would have to hire me. Well Creek Nation I love ya'll. I wish ya'll would come back! I have stomped the hills of the Coosa Valley and the Talladega National Forests for over a decade and I still feel the presence of my ancestors. What I can not beleive though is how NA people have resorted to a white mans methodology of geneology record keeping and NA profiling. I will look one day in my spare time ( when I am not fighting the gov ) and go and try to get my Great Great Grandmothers name and prove my authenticity. However I don't have time and I don't think genetics necessarily make someone Indian. I think it is how we beleive, live, work, and play that makes us Indian. I am a 27 year old woman who can hunt, trap, fish, clean, cook and run a home. However unfortunately I have learned though my best tool for fighting government is education. As a result I am also educated at the insistence and expense of white men. However the state of Alabama may have educated me but I still refuse to work until they turn me back loose out in my woods. If I was a white male or a government recognized NA then I would already be out there but since I am exactly opposite the opportunity to get back into my woods is severly lessened. Anyway I didn't come on here to tell you a sob story but I did come on here to tell you that some of us were left behind in the home mountains of the Coosa Valley and wish everyday for our lost family and love ones to come back and help fight the government. The battle is still ongoing.

I am looking for information concerning my great great grandfather that lived in Sapulpa, Creek Nation, IT and died one year before Oklahoma became a state. I have been to Sapulpa twice and have probably gained as much information as is available. I keep hoping to connect to a relative of his or someone that is associated to the family and has information. His name is Francis Marion Johnston, Born: 31 January 1834 in Illinois. Died: 14 July 1906 in Sapulpa, Creek Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. I found his tombstone, he is buried in the Old Sapulpa Cemetery, and a very helpful person found a paper where his funeral was paid for at the museum. That is it, that is all I have been able to find.
Now, tonight I was going thru my parents old photos and found a baby picture with some writing on the back of the frame material (cardboard that frames the picture that is attached to it permanently)it is written in pencil and I cannot read the name but below the name is Posey, Creek Nation, IT. Can anyone tell me where Posey was in the period that was prior to statehood? Also if anyone has any information concerning my Johnston I would be so happy to receive that info also. Thank you very much.
Jan
I am quoting from a source of mine; what you see is all of the information that I have. I do not know how much of this is true, but would like to have further information.

"Captain Belcher (he was French) had a full bood Indian wife. He also had a sister (French too) that married a full blood Indian man named McIntosh. They had two children, a boy and a girl --Allen and Eliza McIntosh. The mother and father died and Captain Belcher took the children." "This grandfather was a brother to Col. John Mcintosh, one time chief of the Creek Trive of Indians while they were in Alabama."

Hello,
My name is Jeanna and I live in Ca. I am enrolled in the Muscogee Creek Nation and have been since I was a teeneager. However, I know very little about my culture and my anscetors.
The information I do have is my great grandfather Willie Jesse (dawes 7275) who I beleive was from Thlewarthle, as was his mother Eliza "Lizzie" (Dawes 7271) and his father Timmie Jesse (Dawes 7276) who I beleive was from Tulmochussee. I do possess a picture of my great grandfather and his mother and who I believe could be his brothers and one of their sons.
I am not certain if they were born in Oklahoma or if they were "relocated" as part of the removal act. I know of no other relatives who might still be living in Oklahoma. My grandmother, Juanita Jesse, was born on the reservation and moved to California in her mid 20's. That is all the information I possess, other than my own enrollment.

Any information that anyone could pass onto me would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I am lost and not certian of which direction to turn next, or what I am looking for.

Thank you very much,
Jeanna

My g-grandfather Franklin Price Cole had a brother Lawrence Cole b. 1865 Independence Co., AR, who lived in Checotah (Creek Nation)late 1800s. From census records I've learned the family moved from Independence County, AR, to Creek Nation, IT, between 1892-94. The 1920 census shows son Archie J. married to Ora A. SWAFFORD and living with his in-laws. Family legend says Lawrence Cole was in some type of law enforcement career and was killed in the line of duty. Would enjoy e-mail from anyone researching this COLE or SWAFFORD family.
Gene Johnson

1900 Census Creek Nation, IT
COLE Lawrence Head w m Mar 1865 35 m AR TN TN
Kitty Wife w f Sep 1867 AR AR AR
Eugean M son w m Mar 1890 AR AR AR
Grover M son w m May 1892 AR AR AR
Archie J son w m Feb 1894 ChN AR AR
Vernie dau w f Mar 1897 ChN AR AR

I am researching my ancestor, Jeanetta Aurora HARVISON, daughter of Tom HARVISON and Amy MCGILBRA (MCGILLVARY) of Hickory Ground or Eufala. Ben KNOX was a relative of HARVISON who came to I.T. from Alabama about 1840. My information is sketchy. Please email me if you have any information to share about these people. Thank you very much!

advice needed on finding marriage 1901 and 1900 census lookup

Any advice on how to find a marriage license 1901? It should have occurred in the Muskogee area of Creek Nation. My knowledge of Indian Territory records is about zilch. Am I even correct that Muskogee would be part of Creek Nation at the time? Would the license yield info on parents of the couple?

I am looking for the marriage of Marshall C. Box to Margaret-Maggie Swinney/Sweeney. Marshall was son of Charles Jackson Box and Elizabeth Kirkendall.

My primary search is to find the parents of Maggie, so a census lookup would be wonderful if anyone can do so. Would the area be shown as Muskogee District on 1900 census? Thanks for any suggestions.

I am looking for a marriage record for my great grandparents, Lee A. Cox and Maybelle (Bell) Ellis. They had a child born in Feb 1898 in Indian Territory so I'm guessing they were married around 1897. However, my grandmother told me she had 2 sisters that died as infants and I'm not sure if they were older or younger. Thank you for your time.

My great-grandfather was Norris Dan Conner. His parents were Dan Charles and Fannie Norris. It is possible that Norris Dan was adopted by Fannie's sister Josephine and her husband Oregon Mastin a Creek Indian. He was born in 1892 in Elmore or Chilton County Alabama and he later ended up in and around Wetumpka Oklahoma.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Chris

I have a strong beliefs that my gGrandfather's father first arrived into I.T. @ Ft. Gibson, then migrated down into the North Fork region near Eufaula.

It is recorded that my ggGrandfather is buried "East of Eufaula, where they moved the bodies to build the lake". His name was Thomas Carr (full blood Creek). Thomas Carr's wife was "Cosoe". Their son (my gGrandfather) was Rev. Robert Carr who later migrated to Wetumka.

Does anyone know where early creek emigrants who first came to I.T. & settled near Eufaula, I.T. may have been buried? Robert Carr attended the Asbury Manual Labor Mission in his early years (1847-1860's). Where could I locate Asbury School records of early students & where do you suppose Thomas Carr is buried? Not sure if this Thomas Carr is the brother to Paddy Carr or not.

Robert Carr's 1/2 sisters:
Mrs. Washington Grayson.
& Lydia Childers.

Full brothers:

Pat (Patrick) Carr
William "Bill" Carr
Louisa Carr Benson (md. to Dave Benson) - Wetumka

Need help. If you can give us some name ideas or other ideas we may have not thought of yet it would help. We do know That we had a part of three families entermarrying with some tribe to populate Sand Mountain, AL. The Redwines, The Bundrens, The Pembertons. We look forward to your assistance. I know that Susie's father died before he was alloted land and the mother died a year later. How would I get information on the parents before the enrollment. I have searched the Lance Hall website but I am stumped. I would like to know how to get the information on what happened to the minor children after the parents died. I am trying to find out where the parents my have been buried. 2 of the minor children died in 1904 and 1908. Were could they have been buried? The parents died in 1900 and 1901. Would the children ould of been given a guardian and how can I find out. the census card no for this family is 1202 Creek nation enrollment. Thank you in adavnce for the help.

I am trying to learn information for my fathers side Chester Jones. He grew up in Bixby , Broken Arrow area of Oklahoma. My father is now 81 years old and has suffered a massive stoke but speaks often of growing up and attending stomp dances with his family. I know when he was young his family lived on property belonging to the Graysons. His friend was the son Benny Grayson and another friend with the last name of Tiger.
He has mentioned that he is Creek and I have also heard Yuchee. I am trying to learn more about him and his family and my ancestors. I have known all of my life that my father was Native American but I really have no proof other than stories of Stomp dance etc. I attend pow wows almost every weekend but I would REALLY love to learn more about my family!
My grandfathers name was Samuel Alonzo Jones his wife was Mary Elizabeth Jones. My father one of a set of twins Chester and Lester, and he had brothers and sisters by the names of Ivy, Raymond, Boyd, Lance, Grat, Myrtle, Howard.

If anyone knows of my family I would love to hear from you!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
