I am looking for information regarding my great-grandmother Betti Self born 1869,who is said to be a part of the Creek Nation. Her father was Pleasant Self born 1823 in Alabama. Mother was Mary A. Woodward Self born Missouri. Siblings were Charlotte born 1852, William born 1855, Jane born 1856, Issac born 1857, Caroline born 1860, David Marion 1863, John C.1866. All brothers and sisters were probably born in Johnson County, Arkansas. Betti was raised in an orphanage until her sister Jane Self Terry took her out at about age eight. Betti and my grandfather George Hulstine were living in the Creek Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma in 1900. Any information about her family would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about Pleasant Self except he was in Johnson County in 1860 and died shortly after my Great-grandmother Betti was born.

Thanks

Gloria

Hello June,

Just recieved you email. Thought you had seen my homepage on Familytreemaker.com. But after receiving this message maybe not. Please check it out for descendant outline. As for Betti and George Hulstine, they did live in the Creek Nation in 1900. She is buried in the old Yuma Cemetary in Yuma, Arizona. She died of colon cancer when living in Sumerton, Arizona. George Hulstine died in Las Cruces, New Mexico and is buried next to Betti in Yuma, Arizona. I do have information on Betti's brothers and sisters from 1870 census in Johnson County, Arkansas. Also found Betti living with sister, Jane Self Terry in Johnson County, Arkansas in 1880 census and found other siblings in same census. I have quite a bit of information and will share. My Dad said that his Grandpa George called Betti "Coodie". Her sister would visit, Jane Self Terry, and she was supposedly Indian and would eat bugs. Grandpa called her "Coodie" teasing her about not liking bugs. Coodie represented a small bug. Would love to hear any other stories you have to tell. You were right about your grandfather George having a german accent. Daddy used to try to talk like him when telling a story about what his grandpa had said. I bet we will find out Betti was a Creek Indian since they were living in the Creek Nation and I have not found them on any intruder's list. Take care and write soon.

Gloria

I'm the great granddaughter of JAMES ISIAH HULSTINE and DULSA MAE BACHUS. My grandma was their daughter. I remember my grany she always smelled of roses. I also know how James died.

When you say your dad talked of grandpa george you mean George Hulstine right? Who was your father? I would like to talk more about this part of my family with you. My uncle told me that his grandpa, James Hulstine, told him they were Jewish. I'd love to get all the facts and if you have any old family pictures I would go ga ga over them.

Thank you Lynn Guillory, Hulstine

Hello Lynn,

I am the grandaughter of James Issac Hulstine. My father was Tom O. Hulstine. If your maiden name is Guillory you must be a grandaughter of Elner Hulstine and Archie Guillory. Your father and Uncle have to be Buzz or Larry. Anyway, I have alot of genealogy and will gladly share. Sorry to say, I do not think we are Jewish. The Hulstine's appear to be German but have not traced it to Germany yet. Please email me privately. gjgray@ocsnet.net Your Dad and Uncle should know who I am. Gloria Hulstine Gray
