Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I don't have a family tree program right now to check it out but if you contact Cindy at c_pwoodward@yahoo.com she should be able to help you. Put surenames in subject line. It may take her a while to get back to you as she stays pretty busy. Sometimes she does get busy and forgets. Good luck. JEAN

First known locally as Buzzard Flop. Post office established June 15, 1894, and name changed to Raydon, December 16, 1907. Named for Guertie Raydon, daughter of James S. Raydon, first postmaster, it had the spelling of its name changed by the Post Office Department to prevent confusion with Guthrie."

Since my original post I have found more information. Ok, John Thomas wife was Johanna Worley but she had already died when they went to Oklahoma.

I have found that John Thomas and his sons Clayton, George, John Hamilton and Henry J. Burgess all went to Oklahoma with him.

Henry J. Burgess was married to Arizona Jenkins and they had a daughter named Mary.

John Hamilton Burgess married Arizona's sister Minnesota (Minnie) in 1909.

Sometime before the 1910 Oklahoma Kiowa county census Henry J. disappeared and was never seen again.

Later Arizona died and her daughter Mary and the others moved back to Georgia. Mary in 1920 married Arthur Jackson Hensley.

And at some time John Thomas Burgess married Minnie and Zonie's older sister Kansas (Kannie) but they did not stay together. In fact Kannie moved back to Georgia before the others with her two daughters by first husband Quillan Davis.

I am posting a picture of Zonie, Mary, Minnie, John Hamilton and thier daugher Hazel.

The oraganization you seem to be speaking of sounds like First Families of the Twin Territories through the Oklahoma Genealogical Society. You have to be able to document that your direct-line family was in Oklahoma or Indian Territory before statehood, Nov. of 1908. The application is available online at www.okgensoc.org. If I can be of any help, let me know.

A few years ago I was looking into the Oklahoma websites. I saw one that said you could register your family if they were there before Oklahoma became a statehood in 1907. I believe it was a Centennial project they were doing for the 1st 100 years. Our family was there in 1900 and I would like to register them if at all possible. If anyone know about this I'd appreciate hearing from you. My thanks in advance: Glenda from http://www.Myblueangel.net

I have e-mailed you with my information and would be happy to correspond with anyone interested in this line. I also have information that can lead you to more facts regarding the Baker/Green family and life prior to OK in Sparta, White County, TN My e-mail address is Deefiglia@aol.com for anyone who may be interested and who might be able to add to my information. My story regarding my "Grandpa" Joe Green (prior to 1930, his marriage to my Grandmother Ida Mae Wolford, his children from that marriage , his prison escape, etc.) is too long and complicated to enter here but please contact me and I will be happy to share with you.

Hi:

I've been trying to find information about a sawmill boiler explosion in Oklahoma that took the life of my great-uncle. His name was Eddy Lee Owens. This was recorded in the Family Bible. It states: "Eddy Lee Owens was killed by the explosion of a boiler at Chas. Delk Mill on May, the 23, 1898." He was born on July 19, 1884.
If anyone knows of this death will you please share your information with me? I would sincerely appreciate it.

Thank you,

Patricia
fallnanjel@msn.com

Thank you for your help on this interesting mystery.
Albert E. Farley's son may have been named Eugene, but his name is almost unreadable in the only census he could be found in. (I am away from home and my census info right now.) The grandson of Albert Farley is trying his best to recall this story told by his father who died about 1962, but unfortunately the story is very vague, but the accident may have occured about 1905-1920. That is probably not much help. I will recontact the grandson and see if there is some other clue or details he recalls.

I am looking for a lost ancester who is believed to have lived in Ada, OK, Pontotoc County during the late 1940's. It is believed that his first name is "Ben" which could be short for Benjamin, Benson, Benton. His last name is unknown at this time. He is thought to have been born in 1913 and to have died between November 1946 and July 1947 of cancer. It is believed that he was married, wife may have been in a mental hospital, and they had on child, a son, age unknown. He may have been a welder and of French extraction. During this time a woman by the name of Alpha Lee Bailey may have been helping take care of the child; she may have also lived in the home but that is not known for sure. This is looking for a needle in a hay stack but if anyone has information that might help me find this individual it would be appreciated.

Dianne Jones - jonesn@ix.netcom.com
