Re: Virginia and Mabel Bell Smith Crescent, OK

Hello Rhonda I have found nothing to indicate that Sarah and J H Eddings was married. 22 october 1880 Allen Singleton Eddings, Singleton is a Pidcock name and I have read that Catherine is buried in Grayson County,Sarah Bell probably wouldn't have named a pidcock name. If you remember Singleton is my G Grandpa's name. He was named for a Clerk in the Courthouse in Crawford Missouri who went extra mile to get Rosannah pidcock Mathews, her husband pension. I have no idea where Catherine. The only JOhn i found in Occela Cemetery in custer is a 10 year old child. I had read that J H is buried in one of the surrounding counties. I have looked and looked haven't found his remains yet. I did find Allen Singleton Eddings living with a sister Mabel Mae in Bennington Oklahoma. I think they grew up with a family member but don't know which one. I know Lyle my G Grandfather was living there for short time but not long was abt the time Zed Maws Pidcock (his son)died
from ruptured appendix and died from (spelling went south) however it was from infection dumping into body cavity was a very hard infection hard to treat now. I feel Baker died abt 1876 in Washington Arkansas, I have no idea where he is buried. I know that Nancy was living next door to Florence Mae Holt and family., Baker Caswell Eddings and Mary G Pidcock she was listed as Eddings also but Nancy was named the mother. I know they probably lived pretty close to the border of Grayson and Collin, Nancy was living in Collin., I also know that John Henry was held in Virginia after he was captured in CW the second time he was released after the War. But was held until in the area. From Virginia to Severs County Arkansas is a long way. He probably had his feet pretty much to get back. He was probably very hungry and probably very week so it took some time I feel that he got back and he and Margaret Catherine Married maybe 1866 since Aaron was born 1867 and then Lucinda Elizabeth came before the 1870 census, I have seen nothing to prove the other dates however he was single when he joined the military. He signed up in 1862, I feel catherine was in Hospital maybe confined. There was T B in those days in Texas yes they kept them in hospital her burial may have been in cemetery on the hospital grounds.
EDDINGS, G. - Captured 11 Jan 1863 at Arkansas Post, AR.
EDDINGS, ISAAC Pvt - Enl 1 Jun 1862 in Sevier Co, AR. Captured 11 Jan 1863 at Arkansas Post, AR and sent to Mp at Camp Douglas, IL. Died of dysentery 3 Mar 1863 at Camp Douglas, IL.
EDDINGS, J.H. Pvt Enl 1 Mar 1862 in Sevier Co, AR. Captured 11 Jan 1863 at Arkansas Post, AR and sent to MP at Camp Douglas, IL paroled 3 Apr 1863 and delivered to City Point, VA 10 Apr 1863 and released. Deserted and was captured 9 Nov 1863 at Bridgeport, AL. Took oath 18 Nov 1863 and was released to remain north of the Ohio River. Ht 5' 10", eyes hazel, hair drk complx drk.
John Henry Eddings
These are 3 Eddings from Sever County probably close family maybe brothers I need more on J H parents. by the time J H went to CW, Caswell his father had passed.
The Virginia in Crescent Cenetery died 1936 I don't know who you have for husband I have Jerry Smith b 1866 in Missouri
Here is some info off the Indian Application
Special Commissioner of the Court of Claims. Washington DC
Re: Document., List of Question of John Henry Eddings Residence Occola, Custer, Oklahoma USA Question 1-2-3-4-
Question 5 How Old are you? 63__Years born Oct 10 1843 -- Where were you born. > Within 18 Miles of Nashville, Tennessee.
Are you married ? Ans. Wife died in 1882
Name of all your Children who were living on May 28 1906.
1. Aaron Henry Edding born in Arkansas______40 Years old
2. Lucinda Elizabeth Eddings __Arkansas,______________37 years old
3. Virginia Clementine Eddings__Arkansas_____________ 35 Years Old
4. William Jason Eddings_____Arkansas_______________ 33 years Old
5. Baker Caswell Eddings _____Arkansas_______________31 Years old
6. Mabel Mae Eddings_________Arkansas________________29 Years old
7. George S Eddings_________Texas __________________27 years Old
8 Allen Singleton Eddings_____Texas__________________25 years old. >>>>> Depending on the date there are 3 birth years, 1880 Death Record - 1881 and 1882. This is a big question. The date of birth on the Death Record is 22 Oct., 1880 Death : 12 Jan., 1952 This is for Allen Singleton Eddings. Findagrave Memorial Link for Allen. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=64...
Source Citation: Year: 1920; Census Place: Bennington, Bryan, Oklahoma; Roll: T625_1454; Page: 1B; Enumeration District: 31; Image: 730.
The last of the children were the ones to be born in Texas and the rest Arkansas.
Back to the lady in Crescent Cemetery she shares a Headstone with Husband Franklin E Smith He passed in 1919 need to find a marriage record for Virginia someone may have made mistake I did to if this is your lady. I did find her husband in the census with her daughter Mary lee but hubby was gone 1920 I think it was. Marriage record might make some sense. But unless you can post and some kind sole in Logan county might have I If its Franklin that might just turn into something.

You might get a better response by joining the Comanche mail list as 116 miles from Logan County.
Also try the Southwest Genealogy Society - www.sirinet.net/~lgarris/swogs/okquery.html or www.OKGENWEB.com and then try Comanche County.
Hello:

I am looking for information on William M. Howe, his wife, Clara and his daughter, Jessie. Originally from Indiana they were residents of Lawton City, Comanche Township in 1910. William was a merchant. Jessie was an artist who later lived in Los Angeles, California with her mother in the 1930's. Jessie married several times and her later surnames were Seely and Robison. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Oklahoma Children's Home Society - Dorothy Lee Mored

I found this posting about the Oklahoma Children's Home Society on Ancestry.com. I have a similar story. My husband's grandmother was placed in the home and adopted from there. Her information is below. If anyone has any information about records from the home, I would be greatly interested!! My email is shelly_harshman@q.com, and I live in Idaho. Thank you!!

Dorothy Lee Mored, born 17 Dec 1922 in Oklahoma City, OK
Birthmother: Willie Jewell Cleveland Mored, born 2 Mar 1905
Birthfather: Parfirio Mored, (possibly immigrated from Mexico with his brother Ore Mored in 1915)
Birthparents married: 6 Mar 1920, Caddo County, OK (I have a copy of the marriage licence)
At some point, Dorothy is given to the Oklahoma Children's Home Society.
Adoption: 15 Oct 1925, in Oklahoma County, OK (I have a copy of the Adoption Decree - she was 2 years, 10 months old)
Adoptive parents: Henry H. Krebs and Julia Leona Dennis Krebs
Child's new name: Colleen Frances Krebs
An attorney for the society appeared before the court and consented to the adoption, leading us to believe the parents had legally given up parental rights earlier.
The birthmother's name on the adoption decree is "Willie Mored". She remarried a few years later and had two children and died in 1997.

Colleen grew up to be my husband's grandmother. She passed away in 1997, she married three times and had ten children.

I am looking for information about when/why Dorothy was given to the Children's Home, and whether there were any siblings with her. Her birthmother, Willie, was 15 years and 2 weeks old when she married, but Dorothy wasn't born until almost two years later. Willie's mother, Dollie Goldston Cleveland, signed as a witness on Willie & Parfirio's marriage license. A license that lists her as 17 years old. A huge fib - we have multiple census records and her social security death index record that clearly establish her age. Family rummor leads us to believe there was another sibling. We think she may have gotten pregnant, married quickly, later had another child (Dorothy) and then something happened to her husband and she was forced to give up the children. Or possibly, the older child had already died by the time she had to give up Dorothy.

Obit found for Mrs. Phoebe Alice Lafon in The Guthrie Daily Leader, Guthrie, OK, Friday July 14, 1967, page 8, column 6, as follows:
Services for Mrs. Phoebe Alice Lafon, 82, longtime Orlando area resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Orlando Christian Church. Rev. Dean Acuff will officiate and burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery, Perry, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lafon died Thursday at her home in Orlando. She was born July 15, 1884 in Pawnee County, Nebraska, and had lived in the Orlando area for more than 75 years. She was a member of the Orlando Christian Church.
Survivors are two sons, Earl Lafon, Orlando, and finis Lafon, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

I was not able to find an obituary for Harry Lafon. You might want to obtain a death certificate. OR - contact the Noble County Genealogy Society at ncgsmail@rocketmail.com since Grace Hill Cemetery is in that County. They may have a listing. It would seem logical that Mr. Lafon might be buried there.

I found in the 1890 Smith's First Directory of the Territory on page 278 "Alex H. Lafon" (would this be Harry?) In Payne County at the legal description of his property SE quarter of Section 6, Township 19 North Range 1 West. This is about two miles east of Orlando. Logan, Payne and Noble counties are adjoining each other in that particular area.

Grace Hill Cemetery is located in the SE quarter of Section 23, Township 21 North Range 1 West, so you see it was not far from the Lafon's farm.

Seeking info about J. B. Lambert

I am looking for knowledge about the parents, siblings and first wife of Frank John Lambert, also known as Jean Baptiste Lambert. His ancestors were French-Canadian as you may have guessed. He was born on August 28, 1852 in Skowhegan, Somerset county, Maine. He was married twice, his second wife’s name was Agnes Taylor. They were married on August 20, 1895 in Howard, Kansas. On the marriage application he was listed as J. B. and gave Logan,Oklahoma as his address. Their children’s names were Opie Reed Lambert, born in 1895 and Olin Harry Lambert (my father) born in 1897. They lived in Blandinsville and Lewistown, Illinois. Frank John was a barber. I know he had children by the first marriage and some of them lived in the Chicago area at one time. One of the Chicago Lamberts was in the lamp business, I believe. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

My husband, Darryl Baker, and you are very possibly related. His great grandfather is also Elmer Baker, who passed away and Minnie remarried Arthur Rhoads. His grandfather is the second Elmer Baker and I have been researching his family tree and been stumped until recently. I believe Elmer (1863-1891) is the child of Charles Baker and Eliza J. Baker.
We live in California, my husbands family are all from Colorado.
If you would like to contact me, my direct email is LeeAnnBkr@gmail.com.
Lee Ann
I could not find an obituary for Carl Oliver date 9 June 1994. What I found was Charles "Chuck" Martin Oliver who died Nov. 1, 1994 in Oklahoma City. Could this possibly be the same person? This person had a brother, Scott Oliver who died in 1988, his parents Loretta and Charles Clark Oliver, grandparents were Beatrice & William H. Martin.

Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma

I just bought a book at an antique store that was first printed in 1900, but my copy was a reprint in 1980. It has a lot pictures and info. on Guthrie, Oklahoma. Most of the people look well to do and are in their "Sunday Best".
There are also many pictures of buildings & businesses of the time. If anyone needs me to do a look up let me know. Sue Bycy
Obit or Notice of Death

I am still attempting to locate info on the death of William Oliver Smith
who is buried in Summit View Cem Sec 1 Lot 61 Block 36. I have talked
with the cemetery and they said the only info that they have is:
William Oliver Smith 15 Dec 1932. This could be grave opening date or
death date. Would someone check the newspapers around that date for
a notice of death or an obit? He is buried with the Robert W. Smith family
and I believe that he is the William Oliver Smith that was born to Robert and
his first wife. I will gladly pay for costs to provide this info.
Thank you!

Re: meaning of the name Novalee

My name is Novalie (pronounced Nova-lee)
I was born Feb 15 -64
My research shows that our name is derived from the mid-west Native American Hopi indians - (AZ) and means Butterfly.
There is a movie and a song that is centered around our name. A love story of siblings separated - one raised by indians and one raised with his white family.

I hope this helps.

:)
