After doing some more research from the info you gave me, I am pretty certain that the graves in Garrison Cemetery belong to my family. I went back and looked on the 1900 census and saw that the Garrisons (who donated the land for the cemetery) lived right by the Brockways.

I really appreciate your help - now I know where to look further!

Belle is not a town. It is more like a Congressional district. As near as I can tell, the town of Dacoma, Woods County, would be in this district, or close by it.

"Woods County Oklahoma Rural Cemeteries" gives Sec. C, Plot A & B, for a Mr. and Mrs. Brockway, in Garrison Cemetery, but no first names are given. The cemetery is northeast of Dacoma, and the cemetery will be close to, if not in, the present day Alfalfa Co., OK.

I am trying to get more information on some of my Brockway ancestors that settled in Oklahoma, but I am having some trouble getting more details. Here is what I know:

James A Brockway (b 1846 in PA)
Wife: Julia (Farwell)(b 1846 Ohio)
Children: Earl (b 1882 in IL) and Sarah (b 1876 in IL)

They appear to have moved out west between 1882 and 1895. I have all of them on a 1895 census from Homested, Kansas. Then there is then a 1900 census which shows them living in Belle, Woods County, OK. However, it only lists James and his son Earl in the household; James is listed as widowed.

So I am presuming Julia died before 1900, but I am not sure when or where. Their daughter would have been old enough to be married, or she could have died before then as well.

I have seen a death date mentioned for James on some trees as being 1904 in Belle, but no one has a source listed so I am unsure how accurate it is.

I would really like to know what happened to the family once they came out west, so any info or suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated!

Im researching a person that I believe could be Belle Starr's grandaughter by Pearl Starr. Pearl Starr had a daughter named Florence "Flossie". My husband's GG grandma is named Florence C Massey born about the same date and location as Pearl's daughter. In the 1900 Arkansas census Florence is shown to be living with a couple whom are unrelated to her at the age of 16. She is listed as a step daughter. We cannot find Florence Massey's parents. The long believed story throughout the family is that they are related to Belle Starr. I think its possible that Florence Massey is the same "Flossie".
If anyone has any info, please pass it along. Thank you, Alicia

In the late 1800's, Valentine and Permelia Charles Arndt were side-tracked in their quest to drive 69 unbroken horses from Nebraska to their original home in Pennsylvania and ended up in Alva, Woods County, OK.
Valentine was a brickmaker by trade, and it is said that bricks made by him and the Arndt family were used to construct the "Castle on the Hill" at NWOSU.
The Arndt family consisted of:
- Valentine
- Permelia
- Simeon
- Robert
- Joseph
- David
- Ellie Arndt Derr (and her family... who later returned the PA)
- Ottie Arndt Strickland

As much as I would LOVE to have the whole book, I would like to have page copies that refer to my family about.
The only references to DeSelms in "Footprints" that I can find are on p. 579 in Grant Stearns Rogers family in which a granddaughter married a Dareld DeSelms of Wiohita, KS and are living there in 1976. The other reference is on p.294 in the Count Pulaski Hedrick family in which a daughter married an Emmett DeSelms and Emmett is living in Mosinee, WI in 1976. There is a history of the hotel in "Alva, Oklahoma The First 100 Years, 1886-1986" with photos. The building, 3 story, was moved from KS. It had various names and owners. In the 1960s it was purchased by Joe Denner, Alva businessman, for office space and small retail shop spaces. Also a photo in early 1900s in "Reflections Across Woods County, A Pictorial History", published in 1997.
