Click on research; OHS Research Division website; then search the catalog. In the event the original poster hasn't found the obit, they might also check the Weatherford Daily News in Custer County, in addition to the Cordell Beacon, Washita County.
Bonnie

Most newspaper records in Oklahoma are held in the Reference center in the Oklahoma History Center (I believe that is the name) in Oklahoma City. I know the Hobart newspaper originals are there. I believe the actual newspaper location has only microfilms, if my memory is correct.

Re: KOOPs & WIEBEs of Corn

Anna, I corresponded with you back in 2001 and 2002. My great grandfather is the "other" Thomas Koop of Corn, Oklahoma (1891 to 1920).

It has taken me several years, but I just this month discovered where my great grandfather is buried - the Bethel Krimmer Mennonite Brethren (KMB) Church cemetery in Custer County, Oklahoma. It is north of Corn and southwest of Weatherford.

I've been convinced for years that the Thomas Koop in the Mennonite Brethren (MB) cemetery south of Corn in Washita County is your Thomas Koop. After obtaining a plat map for the cemetery in 2002, I saw that the Thomas buried there had a Jacob J. Dyck buried to one side of him and a J.J. Dyck on the other. I had been told that the burials in that part of the cemetery are chronological. I then learned that people matching the two Dycks both died in 1908, evidencing that the Thomas Koop between them also died in 1908.

The burial for my great grandfather, Thomas K. Koop, was solved by obtaining three obituaries for him. Two were in the German-language newspaper Der Wahrheitsfreund. Copies were provided to me by the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies in Fresno, California. My understanding is that this paper was published from 1915 to 1947 (www.gameo.org). The third obituary came from the Weatherford Booster newspaper and was provided to me by fellow researcher Delbert Amen. Both indicate that Thomas K. Koop was buried in the KMB cemetery.

Do you have an obituary for your Thomas? The German-language newspaper Mennonitische Rundschau, (published from 1880 to 2007) does have an obituary for him, or at least, mention of his passing in an issue following his death. I can give you more information if you don't already have it.

I will copy this information both on the Rootsweb / Ancestry message boards I found you on several years ago and in an email to you directly.

Darren Green

Hello, I am researching the Thompson Family who went to Turkey Creek around the 1900's. This would be the Henry Thompson and Walter Thompson families. I have found some record of them in Canute and Oak City. There are several buried in the Canute Cemetery and Thomson-Pixlee Cemetery. I am looking for any information available on my family. Does anyone know if there is an index of the Canute Cemetery or how I can contact them. Also is there a local Canute Historian who may have information on them. Any suggestions, help, links appreciated.
Pat

I am trying to locate my great grandmother’s brother. His name was Clyde C Wheeler. My great grandmother was Pearl Dove Groves Watson. Pearl and Clyde came to Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory now Pontotoc County Oklahoma back in 1895 along with their other siblings and their mother Elizabeth Wheeler and settled around Allen. Some of the other siblings were Emma Wheeler Lewis Birdwell, William Lou Wheeler, James Rufus Wheeler, and Edd Wheeler.

1895 – 1920 - Clyde lived in the Pontotoc county area.
1930 – Clyde was living in Washita County with his Margie, mother Elizabeth and one of his daughters Lethia. His nephew James L Wheeler also lived with them at that time.
1966 – Clyde passed away in Hobbs, New Mexico. He had lived there for 8 years.
1971 – Margie Wheeler his wife passed away. Clyde and Margie are buried in Hobbs, New Mexico.

If you have any information about Clyde or his family, or anyone else previously mentioned, then please send me an email.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Mary Ann
I am looking for information on Chessie Stroud's family before she married Joseph P. Roper. All I can find is a date for her birth and that it is in Oklahoma. I know that after she married Joe Roper, that they lived in Washita county before moving out to California. After my grandmother Sybil Cross died (Chessie's daughter) my mother said slowly the family lost touch with the Roper's. My mother remembers that Chessie had a brother that they called "Doc" Stroud, married to a Julia, but that she did not think that Doc was his real name but more of a nickname. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
