David Lockett was the husband of Sally that you did not show on your tree. The family seems to appear twice in 1870 Claibore Parish - the children appear about "somewhat correct" but David and Sally are way different in ages on the two postings.

Found them again in 1880 Claibore Parish with their children. Son Austin was living in the next house and married Mollie Crop on 05 Oct 1881. Dau Caroline married George Grigsby on 12 Aug 1883.

Hope this helps, Jim Lockett

Macedonia Cemetery Lookup

I found Eva Riddle listed in the Mallory Funeral Home page with burial in the Macedonia Cemetery. However, I can't find the Macedonia Cemetery listings.

Eva Riddle and George W. Howerton are both shown in Mallory's page as children of Ira Howerton. I'm trying to determine if this is my Ira (whose wife was Elizabeth and who lived in Madison Co. AR).

If someone has any information on Ira Howerton or his children, I'd appreciate your help.

They had moved or something to Sallisaw when Lela was born. After that in 1896 there are no traces of Bell Kelly Cook. William David remarried in 1897 and died in 1906 and is buried in Tamaha Cemetary. Any info on the Cemetary and/or Bell Kelly cook you can give would be MOST appreciated.

Batey Simpson b. 09-27-1843 (unk location); d. 04-27-1888 in Preston Bend, Grayson Co, TX (this town now under Lake Texoma); married Elizabeth Mankins on 10-01-1868 in White River, Washington Co, AR. They had 4 children (not sure of the birth order: Sarah Minerva (my grandmother), Molly, Walter and Wallace Evert Simpson

Sarah Minerva (called Nervy) married John Berry Howard and had two children: John Evert Howard (my father) and Polly May Howard. My father had 3 boys with his first wife (Hattie) who are now all deceased: John Berry, William Russell and Donald Howard. My name is Janie Kay Howard, b 9-15-49 at Minco, Grady Co, OK. My grandmother died in the fall of 1954 and is buried at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, OK. [Ada was founded by my grandparents and her sister Molly and husband Jim Daggs]. My father was born 12-20-1896 near Ardmore, Indian Territory, in a covered wagon.

My great uncle, Walter and his wife Dovie May, raised my Dad from age 12 to 22 when he enlisted in WWI. I have lots of Simpson and Daggs cousins, but don't know anything about my great uncle Evert Simpson.

I was told Elizabeth was disowned by her family when she married Batey because he served with the Union Army during Civil War. Her grandfather, Peter Mankins Sr, was a slave owner, trader and Confederate sympathizer.

Elizabeth was born in 1852 in Arkansas and died 01-28-1890 in Preston Bend, Grayson Co, TX. The Corps of Engineers moved the original cemetery when Lake Texoma was built and no record of their graves in new Preston Bend Cemetery. The graves probably had wooden markers that fell away from the graves before the move.

Wiley James Sisk was the first postmaster at Saylor, IT in the Choctaw Nation. Saylor is under present Robert Kerr Reservoir near Sallisaw, OK.

There is a newspaper article about Love Simpson killing a man named Jim Capps in Vian, IT (Stillwell Sentinel).

I didn't know about other relatives buried at Rosedale in Ada. This cemetery was very close to my Aunt Molly's house. Next time I go to Ada, I will take a look and see who is buried near my grandmother.

Janie Stone
janiestone_2004 at yahoo.com
The Hooper/Suggs marriage mentioned is logged in Sequoyah County Marriage book #1 page 176. Her address is listed as Webbers Falls (just across the river from Campbell/Gore). There is another HOOPER, William listed as being resident of Vian who married Susie Haynes of Vian on Aug 22 1912. Several ELLIS in the book--probably a minister whose name appears several times in the index. Not related, just have the book. RGreg2080@aol.com

His last public record signing that I have was a marriage record for his son in december of 1926, and in the 1930 census his wife Laura Ann Bethany is a widow. Was curious if they are possibly mentioned.

Searching for burial place or death record of James Helton and his wife Rebecca Jane "Becky" May Helton. I see then in the 1920 census in Paw Paw, Sequoyah Co OK but nothing later.

James Helton (also shown as Hilton and Heldon in some census records) was born March 1862 in Georgia (per census) and married Rebecca Jane May 24 Dec 1882 in Whitfield Co GA. She was born July 1864 in Tennessee (per census).

They had children John H.; Caroline ("Callie" who was married th E. R. Arrington living next door in 1920 census); James Edward; Walter R (may have died young); and Samuel Ervin. All of the children ended up in Texas later, but I do not see a death record of James and Rebecca in Texas - so I think they may have died there in Sequoyah Co OK.

Thanks!
Was wondering if you could do a cemetery look up for a Onie Allen died 1921, or a William Marion Bethany. William marion Bethany died between 1921 and 1930. We are trying to figure out whether he died in Sequoyah or Le Flore with his daughter Onie. Onie is the only one I have a year of death for. As far as William Marion goes we are having major trouble trying to figure out what year he died. It is a big problem for my family and I. ANy help would be very much so appreciated. Thank you.

Josh Bethany

Re: Land Records For Mack Roberts in Sequoyah County

Related Land Records
Tract Books:
There are also tract books available relating to the land entry case files. These are arranged by the legal description of the land: by township, range, section, etc. Tract books are divided into two geographical areas, Eastern States and Western States

For the Western States, the tract books are located in the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. This includes the states of: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

For the Eastern States, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has the tract books and patents. This includes the states of: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

For these Eastern State tract books, contact:

Eastern States Office, Bureau of Land Management,
Department of the Interior (BLM-ESO)
7450 Boston Boulevard
Springfield, VA 22153

Land Patents:
Land patents are the legal documents that transferred land ownership from the U.S. Government to individuals. Now you can search for land patent records online, for both Eastern and Western states. See the Bureau of Land Management's Land Patent Search page.
Please note that this includes only patented or completed land entries. Those case files that were cancelled or relinquished will not be there, and may contain just as much useful information for the researcher. For this information, researchers will need to access the tract books.

How Land Records Can Help You:
Land case entry files can contain a wealth of genealogical and legal information. Depending upon the type and time period of the land entry, the case file may yield only a few facts already known to the researcher or it may present new insights about ancestors, family history, title, and land use issues. For example, the records may attest to the one's age, place of birth, citizenship, military service, literacy, and economic status, and may even include similar information about family members. But even the smallest case files can establish locations of land ownership or settlement and dates essential to utilize other resources at NARA, such as census, court, and military service and pension records. i tried to do search for you but the site was down tonight
http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/land/index.html
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp?
also try http://www.footnote.com/ they dont have land records but you just dont know what your going to find there its a good site , hope this helps you good luck

I am Robert Christiansen. My Wife's name on her birth certificate is Wyoming Williams. Her father was Martin H. Williams born in Vian, OK. Betty believes he was a Junior. You apparantly share Grandparents with my wife.
Betty never met her father. She never met Shirley or Eddie. In telephone conversation, M.H. told her there was another son by his first wife.
Betty was told by her Mother that her Grandmother, Rilla, was Cherokee. Looking at the picture of Soleman and considering his origins in the Carolinas, I would guess that he is at least part Cherokee. A lot of natives of this area were never displaced.

I apologize for taking 4-days to realize that I got a response in 2-hours. My daughter, Joyce, was much quicker.
Thank you.
Someone has already put together a Blackmon Family history back to the Cherokee home land that is believable.
The Williams family remains a mystery. We can track MH Williams, Jr. because Betty was in contact with him before he died. We know when and were he died and when and were he was born. I have his S.S. information.
MH Williams, Senior seems to drop off of the face of the earth after the 1930 census. He was never mentioned to Betty.
Thanks again,
Bob Christiansen
