I just now found this. I live about 20 miles south of Muskogee and there are a lot of Neros in the area. You could be on the right track. They are in Fort Gibson, Chocotah, Oktaha, and several other towns around here. I don't know them all. The Muskogee library has a great file and the Creek Nation has a list of names of the Nero family.

William Wesley "Snake" Thomason was born 1872 and spent most of his life in Oklahoma. I have his census info. He was a agent for the Indian Bureau and the Prohibition Bureau. After Prohibition, he still hunted down moonshiners. He died in Texas in 1961. He spent much of his time in the Seminole area. I need to find any living descendants of his. Are there any bios written of him out there? I have the info on the shoot-out in Tecumseh. If you know where I can find any of his living descendants, please let me know. Thanks brian

The back
part of his skull had been crushed in with some blunt
instrument and his pockets were turned out indicating that
he had been robbed after being killed.

It is known that Harjo had some money.
From The Seminole Producer newspaper, August 25, 1928.
Webber City has been wiped off of the map of Seminole county, not by a disaster of any sort, but by Snowmack.
When the oil field began development in that part of the county Webber City came into existence. It became a typical oil town overnight.
The usual oil field buildings, tents and every known method of housing the population was resorted to while commercial houses were opened in structures with the roof only partly completed and the floor laid.
The side walls were put on afterward. The first thing was the floor then came the studding and the roof.
Now, after Webber City did all that the name of the town has been erased and Snowmack has sprung up where Webber City once was.
We lived across from the Texaco Janey lease about 3/8 of a mile north of Snomac. My dad could remember when there was a barroom there in addition to grocery and postoffice. My recollection was that the hamlet was named for Snowden and McFadden, oilmen. I graduated from Wolf High School in 1950.

REbecca hi I know this is an old posting but I am looking for inofrmation on Whitecotton/Cox. Delois Edward Whitecotton married nellie ruth Cox and they had three children Helen Billy and Roweena. Parents of Delois are Isaac Edward WHitecotton adn Artie Powell I believe who also lived there at some time and Nellie who went bu Ruth her parents were John "Frank"lyn Cox and Flore E Jones. Their son Billy whitecotton born around 1929 passed around 1935 we can not find any records on him anywhere. He died from diptheria and it was around the time they started to issue SS# so I a not sure if he had one. They are in the 1930 sencus in Big Horse, Ok. Bot sets of grandparents for Billy have census from LeFlore Seminole as well they say he may have died in Texas while Delois looked for work on oil well. Thanks for any help or info!
Melinda Jameson
