Actually, he may have died in Claremore. My father told me that their family moved to Chelsea after they lived in Claremore, but I'm not sure if Thomas Benton Wood was still alive by then.

It's got to be my grandfather. He lived in Claremore, Ok and then moved to Chelsea, Oklahoma.
His children are Fred Barnett, Tillman, Boss, Herbert, Donnis (nickname Happy), Harold, and Katie.

He was a Sgt.Fifth Class in the confederate army.
I have very little information about him, but would love to connect with other decendants.

This seems to link her, Della (Buston) Abbott to the
William and Cynthia Buxton also buried at Dawes
cemetery.

These two families were both in Twp. 2 Rogers county

I am hoping to find an obituary for Isaac Abbott and his wife Della (last name unknown).

Isaac went by the name Sam, Sampson, Samuel and Isic (as listed in the census records, his draft card and his siblings obituaries.) He was born March 15, 1883 in Missouri but lived in Rogers Co., for many years. His tombstone is in the Dawes cemetery and gives his date of death as 1968.

Della was born in 1887 in KS. She is also buried in Dawes cemetery and her date of death is listed as 1970.

if i m not mistaken, John G is buried in the claremore cemetary. it would be at the sanders plot just off the main entrance. william edward sr, etta jane scraper sanders, kittie scrimsher sanders, william edward jr, anna wright sanders, connelly sanders, dewitt sanders, frank sanders, and host of scrimshers and gunters are in this plot. W.E. Jr is my grandfather.

Cindy, Tulsa, Tulsa Co., OK, is next door to Rogers Co. Owasso, OK is due north of Tulsa on Hwy 169, Collinsville, Oologah and Talala are on north of Owasso....So, all of these towns are within 30 miles (a guess) of Tulsa.

Do you know how far Tulsa is from Rogers county, I have also found one of his sons that died in Tulsa, His name was also John Hall B- Nov. 28, 1927 and D- Feb. 5, 2004. The town where he died was Owasso.

Cindy, I am a volunteer at the Will Rogers Library in Claremore, Rogers Co., OK. I looked through the microfilm of the Claremore Progress for the month of September and 1st week of October, 1973 and did not find an obituary for Mr. Hall. As Talala is a small community north of Oologah, OK, you might contact the newspaper in Oologah to see if they could check their old newspapers/film. Also, Collinsville, OK is close to that area and I noted that a good portion of the funerals listed in the current online edition were handled by funeral home(s) in Collinsville.

Hello, I am one of the Oklahoma Stritzkes, I can give you the history and family names of all the requests. The farmer in the story was my husbands Grandfather and Richard did come to the US with Paul's father Joseph and was in Okla for a while. My Husbands father was Frank the eldest son of Paul, Jr and Katherine (Kate) Pregler. There are four generations of Stritzkes buried in the Fairview Cementery, in Talala, Ok. Lone Elm Cemetery - Rogers County, Oklahoma
Turn east on Hwy 20 to Keatonville, OK. Go thru Keatonville, Ok and just after you cross the Verdgris River Bridge the cemetery is on the south side of Hwy 20.

I really appreciate the effort. Since you did know Dean, What did he do for a living? would he also be buried in Cushing? Do you think there might be living relaatives? I have found nothing on these three except the social security zip code of the last benefit which is Claremore. I searched the Cemeteries on line in Payne County and found nothing.

I am looking for an obituary and or a place of burial for Sherman Albert Huffman. He was born in IN 3 Jun 1887 and died in Claremore 8 Dec 1968. He was a School Teacher of some sort. He was married to Wife Bertie who was born 21 Dec 1895 and died in Claremore 1 Mar 1984. They had one son, Dean Albert Huffman born 12 Jul 1929 and died in Claremore 17 Oct 1993. I cannot find find records of burial on line in any of the Rogers County Cemeteries. If anyone can help or point me in a direction it would be much appreciated.

Don, I knew Dean as an acquaintance because of work and I called a friend's father who lived across the street from the Huffman's, both the parents and Dean when he came back to Claremore. The friend said he thought Sherman and Bertie were from Cushing, Payne Co., OK and he believes they were buried there. So, you might check Payne County for any burials. I volunteer at the Will Rogers Library on Monday evenings, and I will see if I can find obits for them in the Claremore Progress films.

Mysterious Roberts Family Headstone

We discovered yesterday that there is a headstone/grave marker in our back yard. We didn't find it for a long time, because our house is practically built right on top of it, with just the name and dates sticking out.

The name is S. W. Roberts (b. 1891 d. 1919). We live in Claremore, OK. Chances are that somebody just used an old headstone as building material. Our house was built in '79, and whoever built it knew the stone was there (they drove the natural gas line right through it).

Anyone fromt he Roberts family happen to know who this stone belongs to?

Not sure but I believe that De Witt C and Nancy J Cooley MAY have been the parents of your Frona Cooley and that her siblings may have been Charles W and Elais M Cooley. I base that on the the previous message I sent which showed that Frona Cooley was a shoolmate of my grandmother Ruby (Barnes) Houston and the fact that De Witt C Cooley lived in the same location and county as Ruby's father JOSEPH T. BARNES and Ruby's husband's father WARREN BEAUREGARD HOUSTON (my great-grandfather) in the 1910 census for 1910 Census, for Oklahoma, Tulsa County, Owasso Township.

I can only guess that Frona was not include in the attached census page because she was already married to Mr. Wood.

There is a Frona Cooley listed on the honor roll with my grandmother Ruby (Barnes) Houston in the November 21, 1907 issue of the Owasso, Oklahoma Valley Echo as follows:

"Pupils in Mrs. N. D. Smith’s class at .the Owasso school were listed on the, honor roll if they averaged 85 percent in all studies. The. Echo includes the honor roll from the November examinations:

LAST RITES FOR FORMER CHELSEAN
Last rites for Martha M. Byers, pioneer resident of Chelsea, were preformed by the Rev, Clifford Jones at Chelsea Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon. Interment there was under the direction of R.W. Benjamin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Byers passed away at the home of her son, Griffin Byers, in Tulsa early Tuesday morning. Her death came suddenly, following an illness of one day. She was 71 years of age.
Before moving to Tulsa a few years ago to make her home with her son, Mrs. Byers resided in Chelsea for many years.
Her son is the only survivor.
Now we know that her husband died between 1930 and 1939. if you can narrow the date of death down further, I'll go back and look for his obit. Sorry, but nine years of old newspapers is more than I can sit through.

This Mr. Huffman sounds like a teacher I had at Sequoyah(5 miles North of Claremore) in 1947 my senior year. I have pleasant memories of him, he was nice person. I think that he taught & retired from Okla. Military Academy at Claremore, sometime he would wear his military uniform at Sequoyah. Shortly after finishing high school I went to work for Southwestern Bell, Mr. Huffman questioned me how his son might go to work for SWBTCO. The last time I remember seeing him when my son was born in 1954 he talked to me about buying an insurance policy for my son. My son had the colic and cryed all night, he seen how tired I was, he said I will talk to you about it when you get some sleep. I don't remember ever seeing him again. John P. Lock

the hospital you are talking about was called the Franklin Hospital. My mother has surgery there. My husband and I were born in the Claremore General Hospital.It was located on main street and was above where now is the Ann's Cleaners. It came before the Franklin.

John F. and Rosa (Boelzner) Ludwick, ca 1910

John F. and Rosa Ludwick were liviing in Oolagah, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory in the 1900 Census. They had eight children in that census; Bernice?, Roy, Elva, Hazel, Christine, Audrey, Gladys and Helen. Sometime after that and prior to 1910, calamity must have befallen this family as several of the children are back in Ohio living with Boelzner relatives. The parents have never been located after 1900.

Is there anyone with access to local cemetery books/records that might be able to find this Ludwick family buried?

I can help you a little bit on the native American side of things. Have corresponded with a woman whose husband was from the "wider" lines of Oklahoma cousins and with whom I worked to trace back to the earliest known ancestor, Elijah. Her husband was descended from Charles Franklin Shatto, brother of your George William (father of Walter Arthur), both sons of Jacob Henry "Jake" and Elizabeth Ann Snyder Shatto. She has names and has researched the native American side of things including scouring the Daws Report - some interesting surnames such as "Walkingstick". Don't know to what extent your line intermarried with native Americans in Oklahoma.

Have the Civil War records of Jacob Henry "Jake" Shatto, son of Elijah, and Walter Arthur's grandfather, who was in the 14th US Missouri Cavalry (looks like some of his brothers were in southern regiments). Jake married at least 3 times and brought the family from Missouri, to Texas, and then to Okahoma. The family appears to have suffered from the instability and trauma of the Civil War.

I can send you a genealogy report of the descendents of Elijah and Martha Edwards Shatto that would have everything I have.

All I have on Walter Arthur are the names of 7 children from and ancestry.com posting and the 1920-1930 census reports (found him under his father in 1900 but can't find him or his father in 1910).

Would very much like to get some information filled in on this line. Anything you'd like to share I would be grateful to receive.

I am not from this line at all. We probably hook up somewhere back in 18th century Pennsylvania as Elijah consistently reported his birth state as PA in the census, b. circa 1800, and almost all the Shattos I know from that period on back are descendents of Jean Nicholas Chateau, Sr., who immigrated to PA in 1739.

Elijah is a "mystery" as he first pops up by name in 1833, marrying Martha Edwards in Morgan County, Illinois. He is most probably one of those males of a certain age category but not named - returned in the pre-1850 census reports.

Very interestingly, Elijah shows up in the 1842 Nauvoo, Illinois, tax list. Nauvoo was the Mormon settlement where the riots occured & Joseph Smith was killed in 1844. There is a descendent of Jean Nicholas Chateau, Sr., a Dr. John Martin/Milton Bernheisel, who was an early convert and lived with Joseph Smith in Nauvoo. Bernheisel certainly knew his Shatto cousins, from some of his sealing records. I find it hard to believe that he and Elijah did not at least know of each other - even though Elijah was an illiterate wagon maker. There may be something in Bernheisel's papers - they are there in a special collection - in the library in Salt Lake City (he married on of Smith's widows and also made the great crossing to Salt Lake) - just a clue as to where one might look to find something about Elijah's parentage. Main line LDS is a little bit hesitant about this guy, though, as he was a founder of the Reorganized LDS.

Elijah had skeddadled to Missouri by 1850.

Have an IGI record for Walter A. Shatto that he was born in Sulphur Spring, Hopkins Co TX, and have info on many of the Shatto lines both ascending and descending - going back to Elijah Shatto (born c. 1800, PA) but can't get further back. Am also in contact with other Shattos of these lines. Very interesting line.

My grandparents lived in Claremore in the early 1920's. They were Thomas Franklin and Amanda Ellen Edwards House. They had moved there from near Cabool, Texas Co., MO so my grandfather could take the baths there. He had suffered injuries to his legs. My father, Clyde Hershal
House was single and living with them at the time.
My uncle, Hubert "Chick" Hansird House married Viola "Sadie" R. Ross in 1922. Viola was the daughter of George Farnsworth and Cora Jane Justus Ross. Chick and Viola went to Bartlesville, OK to be married.
I found the obit for A. M. Justus, father of Mrs. George Ross online Rogers Co., OK. He died in August, 1928, not sure what the A. M. stands for but "believe" it is Asbury M Justus.
My aunt, Edna Armilda House married Walter T Caffey in Claremore 19 June, 1920. Walter was the son of James Newton Caffey who moved to Rogers County from Wright Co., MO. Walter had several siblings. Walter and Edna's only child, Charles Hershal Caffey was born in Claremore 10
Aug 1922.
I am old enought to remember seeing Will Rogers in a parade in Claremore.
If anyone has any info on these families would love to hear about it.

My Greatgrandmother, Ella Wilson lived in Indian territory as a child about 10 yrs thru mid to late 1880s. Her mother married a Cherokee doctor who adopted her. Her natural father is unknown but likely had Native American blood.The exact timetable of their whereabouts is fuzzy, they ended up in Muldrow by the mid 1880s but before then, in the early 1880s, she lived very close to Will Rogers(within horseback riding distance). I know this because one of his older sisters was her best friend. I am looking for some record of her and I am aware of a couple of things that are out there somewhere..can anyone give me any guidance on where they might be found?

1-the first Cherokee school to open (the name escapes me now) was up near W.Rogers place..my GGM attended that school with the Rogers kids. her friend was Maude Rogers. Is there any info out there about this school; specifically a roster or in a perfect world..class pictures or photos of the school. my GGM would have graduated around 1887 or 1888.

2-my GGM was married in Indian territory in 1888. she had a marriage certificate at one time that indicated that, but it is lost. A wonderful person in Oklahoma found the marriage record of her mother to the Cherokee doctor..but that was in the Cherokee records. Was there any record of NON Indian marriages in IT in 1888..and if so, where might they be found?

3-Lastly, she always told the story that in her last year of high school , she was elected "Queen of the May" which was kind of like a homecoming queen I guess. She says that there was an article and picture of her in the local paper about that. How many papers could there have been back then..Indian or otherwise? Does anyone have a clue what papers existed then, and if any archives still survive?

I am trying to get information on who owned the Smith's Cafe in Claremore, Oklahoma in the early 1930s.

My father's first wife was named Agnes Smith. Her parents were Noah (or J. N.) and Flora Smith and Agnes had a brother named Ernest. They were residents of Delaware County, Oklahoma, as was my father Vergil M. Matthews in 1933. We have found an envelope addressed to my father from Agnes Smith with the return business address of Smith's Cafe. They were very young at the time of their marriage and "rumor" has it that there may have been a boy or twin boys from that marriage.

My sister just moved back to Grove, OK and was told by my cousin's wife that a man telephoned their home approximately two years ago wanting information on my father and Agnes Smith. She had told him that she didn't think my father was every married before. He said he would call back, but never did.

I can not track down any children by her because I do not know what county or in what state that she would have remarried in and I can not find where her mother and father moved to because the 1930 census is the last one that is available.

I would appreciate any information or help that you might be able to give to me.

I am looking for ancestors of Sterling William Angel. He was born on 22 Jun 1889 in Antlers,Latimer, Oklahoma and died on 20 Jan 1967 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona. I know his mother died when he was a small boy. He is buried next to his wife Bertha Bryant Angel in Woodlawn Cemetery, Claremore, Oklahoma.

The problem we are having is apparently there were two Sterling Angels with the father of Elijah "Lige" about 100 or so miles apart around the same time. I have found the other family but not ours. Anybody out there run into this family?

I am searching for James A Clark, who married Annie Hudson 1901 In Indian Territory, james lived in chelsea and Annie in Talala, she is my great aunt, but we know little about her. It seems for a picture we have that James painted railroad cars, they may have had a little boy name Olaf-this could be a middle name. Annie was born 1880 in Indiana and James 1878-not sure where. It appears that Annie died before the 1910 census. We also have a marriage license, a census showing Annie in 1880 and 1900, and nothing else.
The minister on the license was TB Hall, First Baptist Church of Talala Oklahoma
Any info would be most appreciated.

This is some of what I have on Mary Brixey. She was Mary May Horner, nickname was Bunt. Just about all of the Horner daughters had a nickname! She was born May 1, 1869, and I don't have a DOD or a place of burial. Through a cousin, I have her children listed as: Walter, Nora, married Tom, Elmer, Cora, married Walter Carnes. She and Bud Brixey married Sept 5, 1887. She was the third child of William and Margaret Horner. They must have lived in Inola, OK , at least for a period of time, as her father passed away at her house and the funeral was held there. That was 3-13-1911. I have a very faded newspaper clipping of her and C. B. Brixey standing together . It is about them celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. As I said before, she was my Grandpa's sister. I never knew him, as he died before I was born. I do remember my Grandma mentioning the name, but it meant nothing to me when I was so young. Among the assorted pictures I have inheirited are many undated and unlabeled ones. There is one of a little girl, which is labeled as "Cora's Daughter." I always wondered what the '"C. B." stood for. Apparently, he went by "Bud." The only sibling out of the 15 children of my Grandpa's family that I knew, was his youngest sister, Lula. She passed away in 1992, age 102. It would be nice to communicate with anyone who is a descendent of my family. My brothers have sons, so this line of the Horners will go on! It is lonely at the bottom! I forgot to mention that Deck and Gertie had a baby boy together. He was born with hydrocephalus and died shortly afterwards. Gertie is buried next to him in the Gibson Cem and they are next to my grandparents- Hiram Dexter "Deck" Cowles and Nancy Liles Cowles. Many, many relatives are buried there. It's not far from Haskell, nearer to Stone Bluff. ( My grandma grew up on that dirt road where the cemetery is and many relatives lived all around there.

Hello Linda. I have a copy of Joe's death certificate, but his parents names are listed as unknown because his SIL, George didn't know their names. I have tons and tons of family information on both sides, but it has been very hard to find out who Grandpa Liles' parents were. He always told his children and grandchildren that his om was full-blooded Choctaw and he was dark, as were most of his children. His wife, Sarah, was part Cherokee. I have her lineage for generation. I have many old family photos copied that belong to my grandma and that belonged to her parents before her. I have pictures of Joe and Sarah and of Sarah's parents. Sarah's dad died in the Civil War. How did you come up with Joe as being the child of Absalom Liles? I'm just curious because several couples seem to fit as being his parents, but I haven't been able to prove it. There are several Doctor "Dock" Liles and Joseph Liles' in every line I go through, so I know I'm in the right family. Absalom does seem to fit, if the documents prove it.

Hi. I'm trying to research a coal mine, about 10 miles
west of Vinita. The Craig county Clerk thinks it must
have been in Rogers county.
My father had a mine out there, opening in about
1927, and closed in about 1932. Dad was killed in
an auto accident in 1929. there was a law suit filed
in 1929, 1930, or 1931, for injuries a man suffered
in the mine. Don't remember the mans' name.
Dads' name was J.L. (Jack) Davis, and his attornys'
name was Ed,( maybe Edward) Brady.

You can also Contact Chelsea city court house or office (I forget which) to get the info. from those who are buried in the cemetery, you can also contact the funeral homes (if you know what funeral homes took care of the body & it usually listed on the death certificate) & request that you get the file on the family member.

Bruce Collins and George Rowden were convicted of the crime of murder, and they appeal. Affirmed.
They were found guilty for the murder of Ules Jones. One of the witnesses was an Ammon Rowden.
The defendants Bruce Collins and George Rowden were both residents of Rogers county, Okla. Collins was a Cherokee Indian by blood, and resided with his family about seven miles west and a little north of the city of Claremore. As far as disclosed by the record George Rowden maintained no permanent place of abode.
Some other names mentioned are;

I am hoping to find some help in locating an obiturary for Martha Gibbs Rose who passed away in Fruita, Colorado Feb. 25 1920. She is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore, OK, in the Gibbs family plot. Martha's full name is, Martha Jane Scott Gibbs Rose. She was born in Tipton, Iowa 13 Mar 1843. She married Joseph Lewis Gibbs 09 Sep 1859 in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois. Martha and Joseph moved to Claremore, OK sometime in the 1880s where they owned and operated the first hotel in Claremore. Joseph died in 1910, it seems Martha remarried an F.G.Rose, possibly Fred Rose, hard to read his 1920 census entry, and was living in Fruita, CO at the time of her death. Her death certificate gives her full name as Martha Gibbs Rose. I don't know where or when she remarried or when she moved to Colorado. Any help in finding her obit. is greatly appreciated, as I live out of Oklahoma state.

I have some info in my research for Elbert Woods. Below is what I have on him. I am related throught the McElwain line. My Grandfather Carl McElwain was a brother to Ellen (McElwain) Woods. Ellen is the mother of Elbert Woods.
I do have some pictures you might be interested in of Elbert and his wife Jean and another with wife Lola. You may have these already but I am willing to send you a copy. I am trying to research my husband's Horner family. I was always told that Joseph Horner,Sr. born 1878 in Mo. father's name was Mack Horner, may have been a nickname, and that Mack Horner was from the Rogers Co., Ok. area. Mack died when Joe, Sr. was 2, so about 1880 and Joe was the only child, the mother is also unknown more than likely married in Ok. Joe, Sr. never learned to drive and every year or so he would recruit a relative from Greene Co.,Mo. to drive him and his wife Mary Alice Rodgers Horner down to Rogers Co. for family reunions until he just got so old he couldn't make it anymore. Joe passed away in 1967. If anyone is related to the Horner's in Rogers Co. or has any info on this family I sure would appreciate some help. He may also be the A. A. ENGART who was granted permission to stay in the nation in 1882.

Albert ENGART married Rena PETTIGREW and had at least two children: Arline & Winnie S. ENGART. Winnie was born in Indian Territory in 1888.

For posterity -

Albert and Avis are two different individuals. Avis was born 1898 and died 1928, and is possibly a child of Albert.

I do not know whether Albert left any descendants. His daughter Winnie died at an old age and had apparently never married.

His daughter Arline was alive in 1900 VA, but nothing else is known about her.

More information to be obtained.

My grandfather, Harry Raymond, would have been born after that census. Do you know the names of the other 8 children? I found an Abraham Highland wife Celia on the 1900 census in Cherokee, Indian Territory. He was born Jan 1850 in Ill. and she was born in 1853. The census record indicated that they had been married 21 years. That makes their marriage date abt. 1879. His father Pressly is living with them. This may be the wrong one.

The Inola Highland Cemetery records were not keep up to well. They are trying to get them up to date. Do you know if he had a head stone some people do not . The next time I go back to Inola I will look for you if you have not found him.
They have my gr-gr-greatAunt on record as burried in her uncle's grave plots in the (southeast) and yet her head stone is with her Mother , father , sister and brother-in law plots in the southwest )

I am researching Hosie Starks and his family, last account I found them in the 1930 census of Rogers Co. Oklahoma, Oswala (spelling check) township. Hosie was listed with his wife, Euphrasia (nee Rumfelt) and five of his children, Jefferson, Chester, Violet, Vernon, and Wanetta. I know that Chester ended up in Texas and Vernon ended up in California, but don't know about the other children. Can someone looksomewhere to see if there is an obit for Hosie or Euphrasia or a cemetery, I am not sure if they died there or not. Thank you, Betty

In 1920 Wm. Epple married Mrs. May Alsup in Rogers County Claremore ,Ok. Age 54 Born in Missouri . May Alsup was 39 born in Oklahoma. I think that Wm. was my Great Grandfather. But have been unable to find him after this date. Can anyone help me it is just a if he disapered after 1920. His frist wife is Roxan E.Epple and died in Claremore on October 1917after a very long and painfull sickness and was baried in Rogers county. I looked in the nearby Tulsa paper, but only found a notice of death--no obit.

It is interesting that the Soc. Security Death Index gives his date of death as Nov. 30th, yet the Dec. 17th death notice indicates he died just the Saturday before. I wonder why the discrepancy? Also, the notice was given under the TULSA column for Tulsa residents--not the column for recently-deceased residents in nearby towns. Yet the SSDI indicates his last residence was Claremore... I am searching for my Great Uncle, Ellis Warren Rogers. He was born in 1913, possibly in Arkansas. His father was George Washington Rogers b 2/21/1860 in Missouri or Arkansas. Ellis went by his middle name Warren. He joined the US Army prior to World War II and then went AWOL at the start of WW II. He was never heard from again. He went AWOL from a base in Colorado or California and he might have ran off with another man's wife. Please email me with any information.

This isn't much information, but the California Death Index shows Andrew Lee Rogers, b. 6 March 1920 in Oklahoma, died 7 August 1997 in Fresno, Fresno County, CA. His mother's maiden name is given as Cook. No first names of parents in this index.

I see that you also posted in the Rogers County OK forum. Was Andrew Lee Rogers born in that county? That could narrow a census search to checking the Rogers in that county, looking for one with a new son.

You might also try posting in the Oklahoma forum requesting a 1920 census search.

I live in OK and my ggrandfather was an Andrew Rogers (b. 1815) but I don't have information about the one you are researching.

Mary, I found this info on Geneva Henson McGraw...her children were Leo McGraw Jr. , Blanche, Larry and Alice. Since the first child was Leo Jr., then Geneva's husband would be Leo McGraw....there is a Leo McGraw on the SSDI and he was born Oct. 11, 1913 and died Sept. 1984.
George L. Henson was married to Florence Webb. George died Dec. 23, 1957.

I know he was born in April 27, 1917.... died Nov. 3, 2002
and was living in Sallisaw, Ok.
In the early 60's he was living around Gotebo, Ok or Mt. View, Ok and worked checking oil wells.

Nelda, I am kin to a Oliver Dee Richardson born Oct. 19,1890 in St. Clair Co. Mo.
I don't know why Harold Wray hasn't answered you. He hasn't been doing a lot on genealogy for awhile that must be the reason. He is a cousin.
From what I have heard about our Oliver (Great Uncle) he was kind of a happy go lucky guy and always off on any adventure.
So yes he could of been either of the two places you mention.

1. I am not sure there is a connection with the Sparks lines you are researching.
2. Check on-line at the Polk County Genealogical Society's website, Bolivar, MO.
3. I see where you have talked to Susan Sparks in the past.
4. The Sparks I mentioned is just one connecting line to the Anderson-McDaniel trees that on file at the PCGS.
5. I will check to see if there are any Adams, Glover, Spencer, Long, or Roberts in my trees.
6. You might check the genealogical sites at Republic and Springfield, MO. The Republic Historical Society has a Reprint Bulletin that goes back to the 1800s+/- with photos and histories of early pioneers.

I am seeking infomation on the John B and Susan "Emma" (Sewell) Wood family that were in Catoosa, IT in 1900, having migrated from Taney Co MO. They owned an hotel. Their children were daughters Luella "Ella", married an unknown Lamberson, Maude (never married), Blanche who married Benjamin Bunch and Susan A "Sue" who married an unknown Adams. John B died in June 1900, Maud in 1923, Emma in 1928, Blanche in 1941 and Sue in 1962. They are all buried in the Dick Duck Cemetery in Catoosa. They also had a son, Frank and a daughter, Bessie, that I don't have any infomation on . The informant on Emma's death certificate is "John F Wood" of Claremore. I believe this is probably her son, Frank (John Frank/Franklin?). By 1910 and possibly as early as 1900, the 3 married daughters are listed on the census as "widowed". Ella had 3 living children . Any information on any of these family members appreciated.

Several people have emailed me information concerning my post below. That has narrowed my search..
What I know is that my GGM and Maud Rogers were childhood friends and attended the same grade school. Those remembrances and her remembrances of will as a small boy , put the timeline from early 1870's to early 1880's. I am aware of Will's birthplace in 1879, so I assume my GGM lived in the area. Does anyone know what school they would have attended? The geographic area I am concerned with is from Ft. Gibson (maud's birthplace), to Oolgah (Will's), to Muldrow, where my GGm was by the early to mid 1880's.

The name of the Cherokee school or schools in that area would be very helpful..if anyone knows it.

My greatgrandmother and Will Rogers' older sister, 'Maud Rogers were close childhood friends. They attended the same school together and were very close during the 1870's and 1880's in Indian Territory. My GGM's childhood story was totally unknown before I began rsch..I have discovered a great deal, but Maud could be a large pc of the puzzle.
Can anyone help me on bio information on Will Roger's sister Maud?..school. death, marriage, anything really would be extremely helpful and appreciated.

Google isnt very helpful as "Will" (as in Will Rogers) is a word that is too common to use in search..I have come up empty on search for Maud..other than references to her as one of Will's sisters who survived into adulthood.I have not found any bio info at all.

Thank you very much. Maybe the person who looked up the Chelsea Cemetery records was misspelling the name. I wrote my letter to the Chelsea Cemetery, but the person who responded was the Town Clerk. I told her it could be under either Josephine or Josie Berry/Black or Montgomery, so I am surprised you found it and this other woman could not.

No I don't have a copy of the obit for Josie Montgomery, she was 3rd wife of my gr-gr-grandfather John Black, & I only recently learned of her existence. I am mainly interested in finding John Black's grave, since he is the one that I am actually related to.

My thoughts were that Josie might be buried wherever John Black was. They supposedly met in Chelsea or near there. Now John Black's daughter, Arena-who grew up with the name of Irene, her husband & son are all buried in Moore Cemetery. I looked in the online listing of Moore and he wasn't there, but I figured he might be buried in one of the cemeteries where other family members were later buried. Thank you again for the info. FYI- Josie died in AZ.

I am still ISO of the grave and/or an obituary for my gr-gr-grandfather John Black. The info I have is that he died sometime in 1902 in Tulsa, OK and his grave is located in a cemetery that is outside of Tulsa. He died of pneumonia. John would have been about 47 when he died, since he was born in January, 1855. John was born in IN and came to OK from MO in 1902 with his 2yr daughter, Arena. He was married at the time of his death to a woman whose maiden name was Josephine Berry, but she was known as Josie.

Update: His widow, Josie Black, later married a man named Montgomery & is reportedly buried in Chelsea. I contacted Chelsea Cemetery and Josephine/Josie Berry/Black/Montgomery is not buried in the Chelsea Cemetery nor is a John Black. I spoke with a person in the Chelsea Clerk's office and she told me that there are some small cemeteries in the Chelsea area that are run by the county. So it's possible that they are buried in one of those cemeteries. The suggestion was Dawes Cemetery.

I noticed that Claremore, OK is in Rodgers County, the living descendents of John Black currently live in Claremore, OK. Therefore perhaps John Black is buried in a cemetery that would be considered outside of Tulsa, but close to Chelsea & Claremore. I have also been told that there were Berry family members that were living in Chelsea when Josie died in Arizona, & so that was why she was buried in the Chelsea area. Thanks for the look-up.

I have been looking for a William SOUTHAN in USA whose son, my g.granfather, was William Morgan SOUTHAN.

William Morgan was born in Boston, USA abt. 1850. This is stated on his death cert which I have. William Morgan SOUTHAN married in New Zealand a Martha Jane BRADLEY in 1876, He eventually moved to Aust, with his family and remained here till his death in 1904.

I cannot find a William SOUTHAN living in USA anywhere and have decided he just did not exist. But yes he did as he had a large family following him.

Daisy was born Daisy Lou Trent in Sneedville, Hancock County, Tennessee on 3 March 1899. She died in January of 1976 in Rogers County.

She survived two husbands, both doctors according to family lore. The first was George 'Kirklink,' born @ 1895 in Thornfield, Ozark County, Missouri. He's in the IGI, but nobody in the family recognizes the name of the submitter.

The second was George Turner, also born 1895 in Ozark County, MO per the IGI. He was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Claremore, Rogers County in 1959 per the cemetery listings.

I would like to know anything more about these people.

I am trying to dig up information on my greatgrandmother, whose childhood is a complete mystery except for a few facts. Those being that she was the adopted daughter of a Cherokee Doctor, George Wilson. Her name was Ella Sterling Wilson (Sterling her birth name).born 1867 (although some records say 1870) George married Ella's mother in 1874..by 1880s the family was in Muldrow,OK..but I have reason to believe they lived near Will Rogers birthplace..my GGGM always said that her best childhood friend was one of Will Roger's older sisters..dont know which one. The other fact is that my GGGM was voted "Queen of the May" which was May Queen and similar to todays homecoming queen. would have been around 1883 or 1884..She was likely living in Muldrow by this time. Supposedly, her picture was in an IT newspaper.

Can anyone give me any guidance as to where to go from here? Dr. Wilson surely owned land if he lived in Oologah.
Also..any suggestions on old IT newspaper archives?

At the web site of "find a grave" there was an Augustus Sturges dob 1867 dod 1933 burried at Dick Duck This is in Catoosa. I am looking for information on this Augustus Sturges does anyone have additional background on him? Actually if the dob is correct he is not the Augustus Sturges that I am looking for mine would have been born about 1858/1859 and with that dob he would have been too young to be the father and too old to be the interrred person. I will throw this addtional information in My Augustus Sturges was on the 1910 census for Dawson Tulsa Co with his family. Gus age 52 born Mo/wifes name I could not read/children James 20/Frankie 16/ girl's name looked like Naomi age 13. All children born in Arkansas. William B Rogers (abt1750-1810) and Other Rogers of Ulster County, NY

William B Rogers was born about 1750 and died 19 Apr 1810. He is buried in the Jansen Family Ground, Shandaken, Ulster County, NY. He was a Revolutionary War hero and the first Town Clerk of Shandaken in 1804. previously, he had been Town Clerk for Woodstock, from which Shandaken was formed since 1801. The first town meeting in Shadaken was held "on the first Tuesday in April at the home of William Rogers."

Among his children are Joseph H Rogers, who died in Shandaken "at an advanced age" and Abigail Rogers (died 3 Sept 1845), wife of Charles Vandervort (abt1750-1810). Abigail and Charles are also buried in the Jansen Family Ground.

Henry W Rogers (died 5 Nov 1823) is also buried in the Jansen Family Ground. He was an early postermaster "between Shandaken and Phoenicia." He was also "elected nine times in succession" as Town Supervisor, beginning in 1816. He also kept a tavern in connection with his post office.

Mary Rogers, born abt 1800 married her first husband, Michael Van DeBogert in 1836. Michael Van DeBogert died 2 Dec 1836 in Shandaken, Ulster County, NY and is also buried in the Jansen Family Ground. Mary's burial is unknown.

Some of these Rogers may have come from Dutchess County, NY.

I would love to hear from anyone familiar with these and any related Rogers

Danial Issac Cook was born September 26 1982 and died July 9, 2001. Dan was 6' 4" and supposedly drowned in 5' of water. There were no drugs or alcohol used by Dan at his death. He also had no medical conditions which would have caused his death. We can back this all up with medical proof. The five people who were with him have told many stories and we need to know what happened to our son. We are asking anyone who was at Blue Hole in Salina, Oklahoma on July 9, 2001 to please contact us. Thank you for your help in advance.

My great-great grandfather was William Adams, a Delaware Indian admitted to the Cherokee Nation in 1867 after relocation from KS.(Del Reg.#971) and is on the 1880 Roll. First wife was Kate Adams, had sons, Richard C. Adams, and Nathan Adams. Kate Adams died around 1870. William
then married Louisa Celker in 1873, a white woman, they were married by Chief charles Journey-cake at the home of Johm Sarcxie. They had the following children & lived in Cooweescoowee, NO.5, post office Alluwe, Tp. 25N R.17E. Childre were: Abner G. Adams, Judson Adams, Lottie J. Adams,
Josephine R. Adams, Hiram V. Adams, and Reuben B. Adams.
> William Adams died in Aug. of 1902. Louisa Adams tried to be entered to the Cherokee Nation but was denied in 1907. Date of her death is unknown.
Jospehine R. Adams married a FRENCH and Lottie J. Adams married a GILLESPY.
To my knowledge, Josephine French stayed in Nowata and died in 1977.
Searching for any descendants of these Adams. Unknown if any of these Adams remain in the Cherokee Nation of Ok. All of William Adams & Louisa Adams children were enrolled into the Cherokee Nation around 1900.

Looking for information on where some of my Relatives are buried On My mother's Side they were the Chaneys, Isabells,& Plews all with different spellings. On the Chaneys my Great and Grand Parents as is my Great GrandFather and Great Grandmother Plew are Buried in LONE ELM Cemetery. INGLIS RITES AT BAPTIST CHURCH

Funeral Services for Eliza Barnes Inglis, widow of Charles Inglis, were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Baptist church by the pastor, Ben F. Worley. A eulogy was delivered by J.H. Collier, a close friend of the Inglis family.

Burial was in Chelsea cemetery under direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Inglis died Sunday at a Tulsa nursing home where she had been a patient for several weeks. Mrs. Inglis was 82 years of age.

The daughter of William and Mary Barnes, Mrs. Inglis was born June 5, 1861 in Princeton, Kentucky. She spent her girl hood at that place and was married there April 4, 1888 to Charles Richmon Inglis. A year later the couple came to the Indian Territory. Five years later in 1894 the Inglis family moved to Chelsea and have since made this their home.

Converted at the age of twelve years, Mrs. Inglis was a member of the Christian Church.

Surviving is Mrs. Inglis' only child, Frankie Idler Oller of Tulsa; two granddaughters, Mrs Aaron Keehn of Los Angeles and Mrs. Harold Brown of Tulsa; six great grandchildren; two nieces and four nephews. Inglis died June 3, 1936.

My grandfather and his family lived in both Rogers and Nowata counties on and off from about 1900 to about 1921. My grandfathers name was Joseph T. LeGate and his son my father was Joseph W. LeGate. My father had two brothers Olen and Frank and a sister Wanda. My father was born in New Mexico in 1909, the family moved briefly in 1908 and were back in Oklahoma by 1910. The rest of the family was born in Oklahoma. My grandfather was born in Kentucky in 1872 and my grandmother was from Missour. Her name was Minnie Lee. Her brother William Lee also lived near them. My grandfather had three or four brothers who lived in the area they stayed and my grandfather moved to California in the 1920's. Anyone who has any information about the family please let me know, it would be appreciated.

Barry, I would like to exchange info with you on our Tackett Family. Mary Plina James was Levi's third wife. Mary was 12? years old when she married Levi. Levi divorced Mary and he had custody of their 4 children. Levi was rejected from the roll after he divorced Mary as he was white, but their 4 children who were 1/16 Indian remained on the roll. Mary later married her step brother Robert John Shaw then later married C. Norris. Mary Plina is on the roll in 1880 as Mary Cannon, her step fathers name. She was 1/8 Cherokee. She left with Shaw and went to Missouri then Montana and had a problem getting her and her daughter Evalina by Shaw back on the Indian roll when she returned to Indian Territory as she was not considered a Cherokee Citizen. You had to live and stay in your district to be on the roll. Levi's 4th and final wife was Ida Johnson.

Carl Joines, specialty farmer in Rogers Co.

I'm trying to find the date of death for Carl Joines. He was born May 13, 1902, in Wilkes County, N.C., and left home at about age 15. I've been told he was a specialty farmer, which I believe is why I can't find him in the Social Security Death Index. I believe he died 1978-1979. I've been told he lived across the road from the Will Rogers House.

Inola Hill

North of Inola is a rise of land, void of trees, that my grandfather, Guy L. Davis, called Inola Hill. During the early 1950's we would climb this hill and search for arrow heads, usually finding several. Later, I read of a battle between the Osage and Cherokee tribes that took place on 'Claremore Mound'.
Are these two hills one and the same? If not, where is Claremore Mound located?

The directions to Timber Ridge Cemetary are...
Take hwy 412 east from Tulsa, at 289th E. Ave. (the 2nd left after you pass Catoosa) turn left. There is a big blue water tower on the hill to the northeast. Go down that road about 1/2 mile and on the left is the cemetary.

I'm needing some help. Margaret Emily Schrimsher is supposed to be the daughter of John G. Schrimsher. She was born 23 Aug 1875, supposedly her mother died when she was 3 months old in a house fire. I can't find any information other than my great aunt says she remembers her grandma (Margaret Emily) saying that Will Rogers was her first "ot". Please help. all it has on her death cert is father's last name of Schrimsher and ? Williams for mothers maiden name. She married William Rash.

I am looking for A Betty Pilkington who married my g-g-g-grandfather John Sudall farmer of Huncoat, Lanc., Eng. on June 16, 1803 according to the register of the Altham Parish Church, Lanc. There is also recorded a John Sudell who married a Maria Clegg. Don't know if it's the same John with last name misspelled. Perhaps Maria was first wife. John and Betty had five chilren and many, many descendants. John and Betty (Elizabeth?) were probably born circa 1773- 1780's. I am trying to trace family history back from this John and Betty. Hello. I am seeking to find any information from any descendents of the Rogers/Raincrow family that hailed from Forysth County, Georgia. Jackson Rogers-b.10-12-1816-d-5-14-1899.He married Sarah G. Blackburn-b-6-3-1821 and they were married on 2-7-1844. Jackson was capatured in July,1864 and was sent to Camp Douglas in Illinois and was parolled on July 16,1865. Jackson also served on the Georgia State Legislative board in Georgia. Last know place to live in Georgia was Whitfield County, which used to be called Cross Plains, Indian Territory.I just recently discovered that Jackson was buried in the Chelsa Cemetery in Rogers County, Ok. I think some of his brothers and sisters are buried here also, or else close by in other cemeteries. Please, if there are any relatives out there in this family, please contact me. I truly would appreciate it. I have some info., but need much more. Thank you in advance. I would like to add that Jackson Rogers is my great-grandfather. He also had three daughters and one son. His son's name was William Ridge Rogers and he settled in Tennessee and this is where he died. Thank you.

I am searching for any leads to the death place of David Claire West Adams. He was born in Mason Valley, Arkansas on June 15,1905 He died on Jan ?, 1991. He lived in Colorado, Oklahoma, California. He was the son of Charles Wesley Adams and Lula Simpson Glover Adams. He married a Selma Juanita Roberts and had one child, Shirley Jewel Adams who died in 1972,in Northern Ca. She was married to Donald G. Hurst. To my knowledge he had never remarried. He loved the horse races. Was probably a jack of all trades, but for the most part, did not have a skilled trade by name. He at one time managed duplexes in Los Angeles, Ca. for his parents during the 1940's. He may have had another child by the name of Jacqueline Claire Adams, who was born in the 1930's but unsure of the Mothers maiden name, may have been Byers Also not sure if there was a marriage to this lady. I do know that he spent some time in Tulsa,Ok.He grew up in Chelsea, Oklahoma with his parents before his marriage(s). Would love to make a connection with descendants of either the Hurst line or children who may be from Jacqueline Claire Adams. Thanks.

I recently purchased a 1921 Rogers Co. Oklahoma Yearbook from Chelsea High School, Chelsea,Oklahoma. Unfortunately my family members were not there, it was a bit too early for the Adams boys(six of them) to have been included. I would be glad to send a scan of the class pictures if you know that your person might be in the book. I can do this for the senior class, junior,sophmore classes. The freshmen and eight grade is a group shot and the names do not indicate who is who. I could still send as a group shot. The pages are in good condition and I will try my best if anyone is interested. There were 11 seniors, 25 juniors, 24 sophmores. The classes are bigger for freshmen and eight grades.

Looking for information about ARTA MOORE. He was born on 18 May 1898, probably in Oklahoma. He resided in or near Claremore, Rogers County, Oklahoma most of his life. After the death of his first wife, Arta married Trella Smith of Pittsburg, Kansas in 1965. Arta died in January, 1981 in Claremore and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore. Any additional information about Arta would be greatly appreciated.

My Great Grandfather, Edgar Turner Had a Bother Names Robert. He named His son Truel Alvin Turner. It is interesting because I have looked for the source on the name Truel. Which by the way is my name and my fathers name also.

Do you know who Joseph's parents were? I thought they were Absalom Liles and Cynthia Colinger Liles, but I can't find a lineage for Absalom.
