I talked to my father and we did have a Uncle Raymond who lived in McWilliams, Alabama and had two sons named Donnie and Lonnie. He had some children who moved to Bay Minette, Alabama. McWilliams is in Wilcox County and Bay Minette is in Baldwin County. I hope this is of some help.

My Grandmother, Annie Mae Allen, was born in Chicota, Lamar Co. Texas, to J.W. (Jess I think) Allen. He was married to Sarah Catherine Evans/Eavans?. I can find very little regarding the Allen Family or where they came from.

If these names sound familiar, please contact me. Annie Mae was born in 1880 but died in Antlers. She had married a John H. Stephens.

Katy, I don't have a picture of the Moyers train depot, but I can tell you a story about it. It is a little startling, so keep in mind that it was nearly a hundred years ago. My grandmother, who was born in 1907,told me that when she was a child, the train came through Moyers. If a Black person got off of the train, Mr. Robinson, the station master, would lock them in a room in the train station overnight. When the train came through the next day, they could get back on. She said, matter of factly, "They didn't mistreat 'em or anything, they give 'em a blanket and a towel and a basin to wash in, and they brung 'em food from the restaurant across the street." Her brothers would sneak out and stand on a wooden box to peer into the window at the Black passengers, but once when she tried it her mother caught her and whipped her for it. So your train station-house is part of one of the sadder chapters of our American story. If you do find a picture, please post it on the Pushmata County Genweb page, for all of us to see.

A quick search leads me to believe C H Waits is buried in Clayton Old Town Cemetery with birth/death as follows: 07 Mar 1873-29 Oct 1941.

Cecil Earl Morse Sr., 81, of Jacksonville, Ore., passed away Jan. 21, 2009.
Cecil was born Oct. 6, 1927 in Fewell, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Emma Morse; and his brothers, Cleo, Stewart, Sam and Clifford. He is survived by his wife, Carolee S. Morse, who he married on April 30, 1955, in Grants Pass, Ore.; his sons, Cecil (Casey) Jr., Steven Craig, Martin and Jeff; daughter, Dixie Lee; sisters, Nina and Tommie; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He lived in the Applegate Valley since 1962, and gave 35 years of service as a heavy equipment operator for Pacific Power. His hobbies were hunting and his grandchildren. He was in the Army, 82nd Airborne.

A memorial service will be held at Ruch Community Bible Church, 190 Upper Applegate Rd., Jacksonville Ore., February 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., Sonny Falls of Ruch Community Bible Church will officiate.

I'm descended from Hudson's younger brother Isham. Isham was married to Edith's sister Sarah. Their parents were John Wilkinson and Jane. I have all this information online if you would like to look at it. 14 generations of about 38 Blankenship families.

To begin with I might need to tell you that I am from a double line of Blankenship. This began with my 4th Great Grandparents John Buck Blankenship and Millie Thompson (1800-1870).

My Great Grandfather William Joseph Blankenship(3 Feb 1847- 27 Aug 1929)m: Martha Jane Coleman

My 2nd GG James Thomas Blankenship(1828-1893)m: Martha Ann Epperson

3rd GG John Buck Blankenship (1793-8Oct 1857)m: Millie Thompson

4th GG Reuben Blankenship (1765-1850): I have his papers from when he was in the American Revolution, thus anyone able to prove their linage to him can become a member of the DAR Daughters of the American Revolution. m: Elizabeth Wilkinson

Reuben's parents were: Hudson Blankenship(1729-1814) and Edith Wilkinson(1733-1826)(and yes his mother's maiden name is the same as his wife's maiden name. I have not gotten to their lineage yet to know how and if they are related)

On my other line of Blankenships: My 3rd GG mother Anna Elizabeth Blankenship (18 Dec 1817-27 June 1893, and thus her parents were also John Buck Blankenship and Millie Thompson.

My grandmother Eva Lena Blackmon Snell is the daughter to William Joseph and Martha Jane

In other words, his father Lewis Blankenship is a brother to my ggg-gf Gilbert Blankenship. That is if we're talking about the same William. I only have one child listed for William which is Lee.

Father is missing in Pushmataha County

Can anyone on this board do a look up for me? I am trying to find the father of William Lee Templeton. William Lee is b.13 Oct 1868. I believe, whoever his father is,he is buried around Rattan. I know that William Lee is also buried there as is his wife Jesse Crane Templeton. I have been told that William Lee's father is from Tennesse but a daughter recently told me she thinks her dad was from Georgia. I am not even sure of this man's first name. Mary, Is Adolphus a common name in your family? The reason I am asking is that my father-in-law, who was born in Pushmataha county, is named Dolphus. His oldest son has that name too and it is so uncommon, I wondered if we might be related, based on the given name. Our surname is Templeton. I have found a Jamalh Stackhouse in the 1910 census of Oklahoma in Pushmataha County, with him were 3 children, Otis, Hulda, and Jesse. Jamalh is the father listed a wd. I aasume that means he was a widower or was he divorced? I have the descendants of the first 2 children and know the third one died young.By the 1920 census Hulda, who was 4 in 1910, had married and was living in Atoka County, Oklahoma with her husband, Charley H. Henderson. She was 14 and he was 29. That is the line with which I am working. None of the descendants of Otis or Hulda know anything of the earlier ancestors. They think that the Rosa Stackhouse who maried in 1911 in Antlers is the mother of Otis, Hulda and Jesse. If this is true who was she before her first marriage to Stackhouse and where did she and her 2nd husband, a Connors, disappear to after 1911. I can not find them in 1920.

Henry Weaver, Jr.

I remember an H. D. Weaver, Jr., who was County Supt. in Pushmataha County back in the 60's and early 70's. I was a teacher and later principal at Nashoba and worked with H. D. in connection with the school. My memories of H. D. were all positive and I had a good working relationship with him while I was there. Nashoba lost their high school in 1968 and became an elementary school the year after. H. D. helped make that difficult transition for the community an easier one for all concerned and I haven't forgotten his easy going ways in helping us. I left that area in 1976 and didn't have contact with him after that time and have since retired from teaching. I believe that I read in the Antlers American newspaper that he had passed away, but am not sure about that. Hope that this will help you in some way.

I attended high school at Antlers, Ok., from 1958-1961 and it seems like there was a Grady Vandever in school there also and was possibly a grade behind me. I don't remember much about him and haven't seen him since I graduated in 1961. This may not be the Grady that you're looking for and, if not, you can disregard this message. Betty Mahala PARROTT was born in 1898 and died in 1981 at age 83. Betty married Robert Thomas BURK.

Mahala Parrott was the daughter of Robert Titus Parrott of the Brownsville community near Heber Springs in Cleburne County, Arkansas. Mahala was the daughter of Robert's first wife, Mary Ann Hulsey, who was the widow of Albert Holland.

Would this be yours? I know that some of this family moved to Oklahoma.

I have ask some of the nice people of Moyers about it and some have said yes ,that it was torn down and sold to some one in antlers. I am looking for information on my husband's great, great Uncle-George Edwin Coker. He was the son of George W. Coker and Bella Zora Harris Coker. He was born in either Hopkins or Wood Co., TX on Feb. 24, 1885. He died on Feb. 18, 1912 in Jumbo, Pushmataha Co., OK. He is buried in the Jumbo cemetery with a WOW-Woodmen of the World tombstone. Family legend is that he died after being knocked off a horse by a tree branch. I don't think that he was married. Also what newspaper did Jumbo use in 1912? Would there have been an obit? If anyone has any information about George E. coker, please let me know. Thanks!

She was married to my great-great grandfather A. B. Crawford before becoming Mrs. Davis & later Mrs. Price. She is buried in Antlers Cemetery.

I would like very much to get a copy of the obit & perhaps any other leads. It appears she spent most of her life in Antlers so I'm guessing there should at the least be an obit & maybe a church reference. Any assistance is much appreciated.

I forgot to give you my email address. It is dlgarrison@cableone.net. Also, there used to be, and may still be, a Stephen Lowry that was superintendent at Battiest School. When I was at Nashoba, we used to take our basketball team over that rough mountain in a school bus to play Battiest. It wasn't paved and was more like a logging road. I retired as Supt. of Terral School out in Southwest Oklahoma and now live in Duncan, Ok.

I started teaching school at Nashoba which is near Clayton in 1965 and left in 1976 and remember the Clayton School. I think that the Auditorium and high school were rock buildings but the grade school was a newer school. If I remember correctly, Jess Bailey was superintendent at Clayton about the time I started teaching at Nashoba. I taught one year at Tuskahoma, the last year that they had a high school. I have fond memories of the time that I spent in Pushmataha County and would sure appreciate the pictures.

I am looking for a grave site for John Wesley Bright and other family of his, as J. W. died in Antlers OK on Feb. 19th 1906. I am also wondering if there might be an obiturary in the local newspaper of 1906? Was there a newspaper being published in the county at that time?

John had moved to Okalahoma after his wife died in Lamar County Texas in 1904. I am thinking that maybe he went to stay with one of his children. He was a Ccivil War veteran.

Telegraph Operator at Antlers Slugged and Office Is Robbed

ANTLERS, Okla., Sept.16-(Special)-

While Pat Hearn, night telegraph operator at the Frisco railroad
depot, was alone in the depot early Thursday morning two young
men came to the depot to have some trunks checked. When Hearn
went to check the trunks he was hit on the head with a blunt
instrument. He fell to the ground and the robbers placed his
body across the railroad track. Hearn partially regained
consciousness and crawled off the track and onto a truck where
he sank into an unconscious condition. In the meantime the
robbers ransacked the ticket office. They secured $21.70.

A passenger train arrived and when the members of the train
crew went to the depot they found Hearn lying on a truck
almost dead. The robbers made their escape and went toward
Atoka.

Sheriff Wilson and a posse are pursuing the robbers and are
close on their trail. The posse found where the robbers
secured breakfast Thursday morning. Hearn is in a critical
condition and was taken to a Paris, Texas hospital Thursday
afternoon.

I dont know her parents names. That is the info Im looking for-We think she may have had a brother named Georg but not sure-She was Indian, could not read or write-was called a medicine woman. Mandy married James R. Shores in 1895 saying she was from Harvey, Scott Co., Arkansas. Changed her name from Amanda/Mandy Jane to Nora Jane after 1920 after the death of her first husband James R. Shores. After 1940 she married James Emmett Parker. They raised my mother (her grandchild) since Loudellie died in childbirth. I have a picture of her and one of her mother I can email to anyone interested. Her children with James Shores were: Mary Elizabeth (Okemah Mary), Rebecca (Becklee), Dessie, Nellie, James, Clarence, Lee, William (Archie), Loudellie, and a set of twins who died young (Nora and Dora.

WWI Memorial in Pushmataha Co.?

Elbert Hugh Wilson registered for the WWI Draft on June 5, 1917. By Nov. 11, 1918 he was dead. He is buried in Bluegrove, Texas next to his parents with a military stone.

Just a further note, my grandmothers family (her maiden name is Alice Tindell) was from Coalgate OK. Her father was Robert Tindell. Her cousins include (From Eler Tindell), Forest "Cheif" Williams, Silas Williams, and Frank Williams. From her aunt (Alice Tindell), there is Ethel Jerdin (Gerdin?). I am looking for information regarding the Tindell family tree. My grandmas aunt was named Alice Tindell. Her brothers were Robert and Jeff Tindell and her sisters name was Eler Tindell. She lived in Central Ok, and had several children. She was married to a man by the last name Jerdin (Gerdin?), and her daughters name was Ethel. They ran a cotten gin. I only know the Jarvis Williams name because he and Stella Luster Williams were listed in the 1900 Indian Territory census. Their sons were Luster and Delbert Williams, both now deceased; there is/was a Luster Williams Jr. in the Oklahoma City area that I have written but have not had a response. According to the information I received, he is buried in the Rattan Cemetery but checking the cemetery transcription on the Pushmataha Co. website, I do not find him listed.

I am looking for the newspaper article and obit conderning his demise. According to a story I was told, Lester Floyd was "ambushed and killed".

I also went to Tuskahoma school in the 7th grade.That was when I was living with my aunt and uncle Hooser.Then we moved to Clayton where I finish my schooling.My brother Thomas Lowry taught school at Battiest for about 27 years.I played a lot of basketball in Nashoba a surrounding schools.Will try to send the pictures later on.They are taken from my year books.

I am seeking information on the death of Mollie (Bishop) Jones born Sept. 30, 1871, in Harpersville Shelby County AL. Her parents were Joseph B. and Mary (Partridge) Bishop. With her parents, Mollie moved to Parker County Texas and sometimes Pushmataha County OK. Mollie married Andrew Clarence Jones born abt 1873 in Snow Hill Wilcox County AL. His family had moved to Bazett and Kerns in Navarro County Texas about 1878. Clarence and Mollie moved back to Spearman Shelby County AL about 1887. They had five children (see attached census). Mollie reportedly passed away in Rattan Pushmataha County OK but I do not have a date or place of burial. Before her death, their children were placed in the custody of Mollie's sisters who were living in Texas -- I have attached the file for two younger daughters placed in the care of Roxie, her sister whose last name changed to Freeman. Any information would help. Thank you very much.

Pushmataha County Historical Society needs your help. We are gathering photographs of school buildings, names of teachers, photographs of school groups, memories and history of early day schools. Due to the court house fire in 1933, the county court house has dependent school teacher lists beginning with the 1932-1933 school year until they were consolidated. Independent and consolidated schools kept their own records.A newspaper search is underway for names of teachers but will be incomplete as they are only sometimes mentioned. If you know who taught where and when, please let us know. You may send us copies of photographs at PCHS, P.O.Box 285, Antlers, OK 74523; email a scan to me at the above email, or drop by the Depot on the second Tuesday and I'll scan your photo. Your help is most appreciated. We hope to have this book done this next year for Oklahoma's 100th birthday. Thank you for your help.

I have recently learned of a Childers Canning Company, located in Antlers, OK, 1940's time frame. I know it was there at the time of the 1945 Antlers tornado. I believe it was located in the present day Antlers library, Gene's garage, City Hall area. Can anyone tell me anything about this cannery? Would especially like to know what "Childers" owned this company. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any information on her. There are a lot of native rock markers in all of the cemeteries in that area, Pushmataha County. Oklahoma didn't start recording until 1907, and even then many death were not reported until the 1910's. I am sorry I don't have anything for you.

Larry--the Cochran/Williams I am seeking are from the Kenton, Okla., and Clayton, N. M. area.
My grandparents lived in Clayton for many years,
(Walter and Margie Smylie) and Walter's parents,
Samuel and Martha Bell Taylor/Smylie.
My grandfather's sister was married to Charles Jesse Cochran, lived in Clayton also in Texas. My grandmother's sister was married to Isaac Cochran and lived in Clayton, Union County, N.M. until he died in 1946, he is buried in the Kenton, Okla. Cemetery.
His wife Ethel Holder/Cochran moved to Whittier, Calif., to be near some of her children who were living there...two daughters who married WOMACK'S from the Kenton area.

Amanda and John Ludy had a son named Jack, born 12 Dec 1909. He married Beulah Mae Nichols, who was the daughter of Harvey A. and Lue Conley Nichols. Jack and Beulah had a daughter named Jackie Maxine, born 19 July 1927. Jack was killed, accidently, with a firearm on 27 Nov 1927. He is buried next to John in the Stanley Cemetery. I think that Jackie was mentally retarded and was living with her half sister Eunice Santiago in southern California, a few years ago. I have not heard anything about her in several years. I hope that this helps. If I can be of any further help, just let me know. I live in Clayton, OK., which is just eight miles from Stanley.

Yes, I am told it is the same Matthew..which actually if I had thought long enough about it, I might have known, I remember as I grew up many in the family called him Uncle Matt..I always knew him as Grandpa Gardner (I remember he wor a Santa Claus suit one Christmas in Klamath Falls, must have been about 1946 or 1947...he stepped on my toe...big guy... at least to a little boy....full name Matthew Madison Gardner. He died in Klamath Falls, Oregon March 20, 1949. He was born in Scotland, Arkansas, June 6, 1878.

The dates fit (Presha C. Bruce died in May 1932 and Minnie's first husband Lewis Abraham Bruce died in March 1930) but I'm not sure. I've sent an e-mail to a cousin asking that she ask her Mom (a daughter of Minnie's). Are you doing Perry research?

Precious is the daughter of Catharine and David Byers of Pope County, Arkansas.
*Catharine was born in Tennessee in 1813.
*David was born in 1809 in Ohio. David, Catharine and Precious lived in Indiana, East Tennessee, northern Georgia and Arkansas.
Precious ( born Jun 1832) had eight brothers and sisters, Rachel (1834), John Albert (7 Oct 1836), Nancy C (1839), William Riley (1844), Lewis R (1847), King David (1849), Andrew (1852) and Catherine (1860). Most of the Byer children were born in and around Ivy Log, Union Co., Georgia. Precious was a weaver by trade.

Thomas Jefferson WOOD was a gristmill owner. He suppossedly sired at least 21 children, and he was blind in his later years. Sardis is now at the bottom of Lake Sardis, and the family is known to have lived in Broken Bow, after Victor's birth. I would like to contact anyone with connections to this family to fill in the gaps and find the next generation back. This family is very interesting and entertaining!

Hello! Pushmataha County was part of the Choctaw Nation until OK became a state in Nov 1907. There are virtually no birth records for this time period unless you can find church records. You might have some luck by looking at the census records. Since this was Indian Territory there are lots of census records for the 1890's - those records weren't with the ones that burned. Check Rusty Lang's Choctaw Web website at www.choctaw-web.com. Lots of good stuff there. Happy time travels!

Hello, Nancy. My great-grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Wood. He was married to Sarah Catherine Revelle by the time he shows up in Pushmataha Co. On the 1910 and 1920 census they are in Tuskahoma township. My Grandpa claimed Sardis as birthplace, but I think it was the closest "town". The whole area where they lived is now at the bottom of Sardis Lake. Many of the cemeteries were moved to a new location before the Army Corps of Engineers flooded the area, but I can find none of my people either, even among the moved graves. This could be what has happened to your family.

Can you give me details about your Nancy Wood? My Grandfather had 20 siblings and most of them moved from AR to IT/OT when Thomas and Sarah came west (She was TJW's 4th wife). Sarah died there in 1921 or 1922. There weren't many folk by the name of Wood in the area in that timeframe, so there is a good chance with that many children there is kinship.

Can someone tell me where Nolia Cemetery is? Also whether there is a cemetery listing? Of course the family history did NOT give Presha's second husband's last name!

My Presha will be Presha (Byers, Bruce) Berry! She was born abt June 1832. Not sure who the other Byers are, but almost positive they are related. Will get back as soon as I run a check on my database. She was in AR after moving from GA. Her first husband, Abraham Bruce, died after they had only been married a few years. Had a family story that she married again, but no clue to who, when, or where.

For your information, since Byers seem to be present in plenty in Pushmataha, Presha's niece, Nancy Catharine (Byers) Dean lived over between Durant and Tishomingo. Still has lots of family there. My dad remembered her and Joseph Dean,her husband, speaking Choctaw so the kids wouldn't know what they were talking about. Legend is that she was part Choctaw or Chickasaw, but never any documentation. Indians would come to the farm and ask Joseph to help them with the Indian agent.

I have Presha living next door to her parents (David and Catharine) in the 1860 Census for Union Co., GA, under the name Presha Biers (dwelling 125, family 119). She has Willis C ae 2 and Yerby C(arlton)ae 5/12 with her. She married Abraham Bruce 17 May 1857 in Union Co. He was living with his parents (ae 12) in the 1850 Census, Union Co., HH#439. He died 22 Feb 1860 and is buried in an "unmarked grave" in Mt. Zion Cemetery. His parents were Abraham Bruce and Sarah Hood. They are present in the 1840 census for Union County, so were some of the original settlers. Union County was opened up after the "Trail of Tears" removal of the Cherokee in 1838.

I think I remember seeing both Yerby and Willis in the 1880 census for AR, but don't recall which county. Actually, it is

Ephraim L. Van Winkle Frost was living in Atoka County at the time of his death which was a resuot of a fire. I would like to know where I can find a newspaper account of the fire which took place in 1937. Any help will be appreciated.

My mother, Anna Mae Charlton Stephens (now deceased) lived in Kiamichi Twp. during the 1920's. She was 9-10 years old in 1920 and she and two of her brothers "walked 3 miles to school and 3 miles home - part of the way on an old tram." I'm not sure where Clayton is located, but just wondering if it's near Cloudy or Kiamichi. I took her back to Cloudy several times before her passing and "nothing looked the same" to her as she remembered it as a child. Her one and only school teacher's name was (sp ?) Zetta Boothe (as she recalled). Would like to find out where Ms. Boothe taught school. My mother seemed to think it was her first year of teaching. Would you happen to have had a Charles Lloyd Murray in your family? He had a brother Jean Murray who lived in Gladewater, Gregg Co., TX when he died and another brother ? who lived in River Oaks, a suburb of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. I think they were all born in Oklahoma, but Charles Lloyd lived in Texas off and on during the 1950s working the oil fields, but was living in California when he died - probably sometime during the 1970s. I recently spoke with a cousin who said the last time he saw our grandparents, William Sherman and Sarah "Sally" Stephens was in 1936-37 when he was 7 years old. His Creel family lived north of Cloudy and they went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Stephens when they lived on the "Old Adams Place at the foot of a mountain." Looking for William born 1838 and John born 1840 both sons of Martin and Rebecca Mullins. Both boys were born in McNairy County, TN. Martin and Rebecca moved to Lamar County, TX sometime after the 1850 census. I have found their other children but do not know what happened to these boys, nor do I know what became of Martina and Rebecca after the move to TX. Any info much appreciated.

The Olen Malone I believe to be the Olon Malone buried in Jumbo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World. Olon Malone married Maude Klutts just a couple of months before his death here.

My question is, Who are the Henry Self and Charley Self that was involved in this explosion? Has anyone done any Obituary research to the people who was killed in the mine during 1910? Would there be obituaries in the newspapers during this time that exist today?

Marcus L. McKenzie, 83, formerly of Ashland, Ore., died Monday, August 14 at his home in Phoenix, Ore. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.

He was born February 3, 1923 in Antlers, Okla., the son of Wesley A. and Beulah McKenzie. He was a long time resident of the Rogue Valley. He worked in various capacities, primarily involving rural land and people. For the last 17 years he was a real estate broker with Oregon Opportunities. Mr. McKenzie served during World War II. He married the former Ferol H. Starnes on July 26, 1943 in Seattle, Wash., who survives. He is survived by one daughter, Sue McKenzie of Phoenix, Ore.; two brothers, Red McKenzie of Weed, Calif., and Jim McKenzie of Talent, Ore. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

I have just located cemetery records for William Edgar, 1866-1931, and his wife Ella Edgar, 1886-1953 in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Ruby Edgar Vandagriff 1912-2000 is buried in the same cemetery with her husband Clarence Allen Vandagriff, 1904-1980. William and Ella Edgar had 4 daughters that I know of; Thelma, Ruby, Stella and Ruth and I believe they were all born in TX.
